In contrast, Cal was swept three times in 2014, and has not had a season without being swept since the 2001 season. Four Bears Earn Pac-12 Honors The Pac-12 conference office announced that four Bears; senior first baseman Chris Paul, sophomore Lucas Erceg, sophomore righty Daulton Jefferies and junior outfielder Devin Pearson all earned all-conference accolades. Paul, also named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, Erceg and Jefferies were named to the All-Pac-12 first team, while Pearson was named an honorable mention. Welcome Back Bears The Bears return to the postseason for the first time since 2011, when Cal went on a spectacular run to the College World Series in Omaha. The Bears have now made 13 appearances all-time in the postseason. We ve Got a First-Timer Here None of Cal s 35 student-athletes have had the chance to play in the postseason prior to the 2015 campaign. Postseason Experience for Cal Coaches On the contrary to the lack of postseason experience on the roster, the Bears coaching staff has plenty 3 SCOUTING REPORT: No. 4-Seed Texas Southern TIGERS (31-17, 16-7 SWAC) Come in at 8-2 in their last 10 games Senior Robert Garza is batting.348, with a team-high 54 hits and has a.453 OBP. Head Coach David Esquer has taken the Bears to the College World Series in 2011 and also won the 1987 national championship while at Stanford. Additionally, he was an assistant coach for six postseason runs and one College World Series appearance while at Stanford and Pepperdine. This marks his sixth trip to the postseason with the Bears as well. Pitching coach Mike Neu won the College World Series as a player at the University of Miami in 1999. Hitting coach Brad Sanfilippo was also on Esquer s staff for the 2011 College World Series run, where the Bears placed fifth. Volunteer assistant coach Noah Jackson, who played for Esquer from 2001-03, experienced the postseason at the regional level in 2001. Productive Pearson Performs

Junior outfielder Devin Pearson has been extremely productive over the course of the last month. Dating back to an April 25 game against the Arizona Wildcats, Pearson is hitting 24-56 (.429) with two home runs, nine RBI, 14 runs scored and has drawn five walks. He finished the regular season hitting a team-best.350 in 34 games played (32 starts) in 120 at-bats with four home runs and 21 RBI. He also has a teamhigh slugging percentage of.457 and is tied for the third-highest on-base percentage (.407). 38% of Pearson s base hits were for extra bases (10 doubles and a pair of triples). Familiar Foes The Bears have previously met the topseeded Texas A&M Aggies five times and the Bears are 3-2, including a 2-1 record in postseason play. Both meetings were in 1992 in the Gainesville Regional, where the Aggies bested the Bears in the opening match up, 15-6, but Cal had the upper hand in the regional championship, sending A&M home with an 11-4 win. The two met again in the 2011 College World Series, where the Bears knocked off the Aggies 7-3 in Omaha. Additionally, California has met its Friday opponent, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers one time, and that came during the 2011 season. Cal won 17-0 on Feb. 25 on the road. The Bears and Texas Southern have never met each other and this will be the first ever meeting between the two programs. Iron Men Three members of the Golden Bears appeared and started all 53 games in 2015. Sophomore third baseman Lucas Erceg, sophomore center fielder Aaron Knapp and freshman shortstop Preston Grand Pre have been constant fixtures in head coach David Esquer s lineup this season. Freshman catcher Brett Cumberland missed the final game of 2015 at Oregon State on May 24, which is the only game he has not appeared in this season (52 starts). Cal Pitching Coach Mike Neu s staff has been very impressive thus far in 2015, as the group has compiled an earned run average of 3.13, which ranked them fourth in the Pac-12, just behind Oregon State (3.01). As a whole, the staff has recorded 333 strikeouts in 468.0 innings of work. Arms Race A quartet of Bears have certainly stood out on the mound in 2015. Freshman righty Jeff Bain is 6-2 on the campaign with a 2.54 ERA (ninth in the Pac-12) and has tallied 30 strikeouts in just 60.1 innings, holding opponents to a.206 batting average (third best in the conference). Junior right hander Ryan Mason has also been fantastic thus far, posting a 6-3 record with a 3.18 ERA with 38 k s in 90.2 (tied for 10th in the Pac-12) innings. Freshman lefty Matt Ladrech has logged 82.2 innings and has compiled a 7-4 record with a stingy 2.72 ERA. Closing Time Five different Golden Bears have registered saves out of Cal s bullpen in 2015.
