on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron, DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 IWAA 2004 CERN Switzerland

Synchrotron Radiation Facilities at DESY: DORIS TTF2 Hall (planned) TTF2 Tunnel (planned) PETRA Crossing Hall IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 2

Impact of Civil Construction on : Color Line Arena p-machine e-machine going up 7mm 3.5 mm aligned going down 7mm 3.5 mm aligned Height deviations after end of construction work IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 3

: HLS test in the tunnel : First results : Height of HLS pot a Tests for ground motion and vibration : a = quiet region in a park b = region under street crossing b IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 4

: Floor to ceiling measurements, diameter tunnel First results : Station in metres Groundwater Level Measurement IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 5

TTF2/ Construction Work : Tunnel without components Crossing the PETRA Tunnel FEL-Hall IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 6

Reference System: No possibility for fix standpoints on the floor => reference marks at the tunnel wall Carriage with TDA or LT Tunnel wall Rail Component Reference Points (mounted in different heights) Tunnel without components Taylor Hobson Sphere PLX Sphere IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 7

Alignment of Components: Stake out and alignment with TDA (TTF2 Tunnel) Alignment with Laser Tracker (TTF2 Tunnel) Components (TTF2 Hall) Aligning components (TTF2 Tunnel) IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 8

Wire Measurement System: Fogale WPS Sensor Wire Granite Plate Undulator Wire Finder Quadrupole Wire Finder plus spirit level for absolute alignment Fogale sensors for permanent relative measurements Reference socket for Wire Finder IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 9

Wire Measurement System: Undulator section with quadrupoles Granite plate with quadrupoles Granite plate with Fogale system Wire finder and Fogale sensor IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 10

Overview: Enlargement A A Cross section A-A IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 11

Girder Concept: 4200 mm 300 mm 300 mm Required accuracy (TDR) : Magnets on girder : ±50µm Girders : ±100µm IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 12

Girder Test : Results of alignment and transportation tests (Laser tracker measurements with respect to the girder) : without fixation ± 100µm with fixation ± 50µm some improvements have to be done yet IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 13

Geodetic Tasks 1 Remeasure the existing reference system Pillars on DESY site Bolts in the tunnel (with plumbing tube to the surface) IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 14

Geodetic Tasks 2 Enhance the reference frame in the tunnel by new _monuments in the floor and at the tunnel wall (like TTF) Fiducialise all new and existing magnets by new fix reference _marks (ca. 750) Stake out positions for new magnet sockets Align all old and new components (ca. 800) Time schedule : 2007 Begin of construction 2009 Begin of operation IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 15

: Political Decision : In February 2003 the German ministry of education and research decided on big scientific facilities. The DESY related part of this decision says : Germany is willing to fund 50% of the project which was _formerly a part of TESLA There will be no decision of a site for TESLA until an _international committee has made its recommendations on _technology In August 2004 the International Technology Recommendation Panel (ITRP) recommended the superconducting rf technology as the technology for the linear collider IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 16

Site: Investigating many possible sites until October 2003. Advantages of the solution : Connection to the DESY infrastructure Undulators are located in an area with low vibration IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 17

Gradient: Constraints : No inclination of the experiments Minimize the height differences of the linac for cryogenic operation 0.2 mrad 0.16 mrad Equipotential surface 0.11 m 0.08 m IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 18

Cross Section: Module Transportation Alignment Screws Module Laser Tracker Carriage Klystron IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 19

Survey Concept: Required Accuracy : ± 0.3 mm with respect to 150m length : TTF like measurements in the tunnel sections with laser tracker Connecting the tunnels in the shafts by a laser straightness system _in a vacuum pipe Alternative : Wire measurement system and HLS If the monochromators have to be aligned by 0.5 mm with respect _to the undulators there has to be a complete laser alignment system _in each distribution tunnel Time schedule : 2005 Plan approval procedure 2006 Start of construction 2012 Begin of operation IWAA 2004, CERN on Survey and Alignment Efforts at DESY Johannes Prenting, Gerhard Neubauer, MEA2 20
