Biology: Harvey Daily Lesson Plan Template 8/24-28/2015 Day & Date: Monday, August 24, 2015 Identify the four characteristics of life. Students will understand the characteristics of life. Deconstruct the standards (get from Brandi) Characteristics of Life Lab activity. Stations set up with different items and students rotate and answer questions on whether the specimen/organ is alive. Alternate internet lab on characteristics of life. o Station 1: bubbles o Station 2: live plant or flower o Station 3: Candle with flame (teachers monitor carefully) o Station 4: Seeds Teacher will give a Socrative review for the quiz. Teacher will use completed Socrative activity to evaluate student understanding. ipad, Socrative App, ipages
Day & Date: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 Four questions from the Themes of Biology quiz used to review material prior to quiz. Students will understand the cell theory. Continuation of the Essential Question/Activating Strategy by discussing student answers. Then students will take Unit 2 quiz. Students will scan the QR code to access the video http://ed.ted.com/lessons/the-wacky-history-ofcell-theory#watch. Students can complete this in various ways (differentiation) o Fill out a graphic organizer (critical thinking skills; picking and using GO) o Complete a timeline of Scientists on White paper (writing across curriculum) o Complete the worksheet handout that goes with the video (extends and enrichs) Name two important scientists and list their contribution(s) to Science. Dear Absent Student Letter (student writes a summary letter to an absent student explaining what was learned in class) ipad, ipages, Metamoji, earbuds
Day & Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 List three parts of the cell theory. Students will understand the cell theory. Teacher will give a Socrative Assessment with five (5) questions on the cell theory and the scientists. Teacher will discuss and look at prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells while showing keynotes on apple TV to introduce similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells o Students will complete a Venn Diagram for comparison o Students will then complete a Graphic Organizer on organelles while using the Organelle presentation which is posted in OLC. They must show structure and function of each organelle from plant and animal cells Please make a comparison of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells using a T chart to show the characteristics. Teacher will review the completed Socrative Assessment and the GO s for differentiation and review. ipad, Socrative App, ipages, GO s
Day & Date: Thursday, August 27, 2015 Give an example of 1 prokaryotic and 2 eukaryotic organisms. Students will compare and identify different organelles in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Students will finish the Graphic Organizer on Cell Organelles from yesterday. Students will complete a Cell Analogy Activity (a city where they must relate the parts of the city to specific organelles) o Students will then do a color paper lab pages on the plant and animal cell o Can be extended/enhanced with prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells color labs. Rate the following items from 1-3 in importance. o Cell Theory o Prokaryotic versus Eukaryotic o Organelles Teacher will analyze the summarizer for review of material that needs to be covered again. ipad, Keynotes, ipages, color pencils, GO
Day & Date: Friday, August 28, 2015 Describe the difference between plant and animal cells and what makes them different. Students will assess their understanding of cell theory, cell types, and organelles through a quiz. Students will complete a Cell Organelle Quizlet or the Cell Organelle Jeopardy Review 1. Quiz over Unit 2 2. Educanon video on Cell Membrane 3-2-1 o Name 3 parts of the cell theory o Give 2 examples of eukaryotic cells o Name 1 organelle that is in plant and NOT animal cells Teacher will analyze the Quiz for data to determine review of material that needs to be covered again. ipad, Keynotes, ipages, color pencils, GO
