We prove two cojectures o sums of products of Catala triagle umbers, which were origially cojectured by Miaa, Ohtsuka, ad Romero [Discrete Math. 340 (2017, 2388 2397. The first oe is proved by usig Zeilberger s algorithm, ad the secod oe is proved by establishig its q-aalogue. For example, the Catala umber C couts the umber of sequeces a 1,a 2,...,a 2 cosistig of 1 s ad ( 1 s such that a 1 + +a k 0 for k 1,...,2. See [22,23 for more combiatorial explaatios of the Catala umbers. See, for example, [2, 4, 7, 10 13, 16 18, 21, 24, 25. I particular, Miaa, Ohtsuka, ad Romero [16, Corollary 3.2(i, Theorem 3.3 proved that B,k 3 1 2 ( 2 3 3 2 ( 2 2 1 k 1 ( ( 2 2 2 k 1 k. 2 1 k1 ( ( k k, (1.1 1 They [16, Cojecture 4.2 made the followig cojecture: 1

Hece, to prove (1.4, it suffices to prove (1.4 for the case where 2a. It is easy to see that the cogruece (1.4 ca be writte as the followig two cogrueces accordig to the parity of (also reversig the summatio order: where B 2r+1,k 0 (mod ( 2 1, 0 a, (1.5 ( 2 A 2r+1,k 0 (mod, 0 a, (1.6 A,k : ( 2k +1 2+1, 0 k. 2+1 k I this paper, we shall cofirm Cojecture 1.4 by establishig (1.5 ad (1.6, respectively. More precisely, we shall give q-aalogues of (1.5 ad (1.6. Theq-itegersaredefied by[ 1 q adtheq-shifted factorials(see[5aredefied 1 q by (a;q 0 1 ad (a;q (1 a(1 aq (1 aq 1 for 1,2,... The q-biomial coefficiets are defied as (q;q, if 0 k, (q;q k (q;q k k k q 0, otherwise. It is well-kow that the q-biomial coefficiets are polyomials i q with iteger coefficiets. The polyomials B,k (q ad A,k (q are give by (see [8,10 B,k (q : [k 2, 1 k, [ k A,k (q : q k[2k +1 [2+1 [ 2+1 2 k k 2 k 1, 0 k. (1.7 Let P(q be a Lauret polyomial i q ad let D(q be a polyomial i q. For coveiece, we write P(q 0 (mod D(q if P(q/D(q is still a Lauret polyomial i q. We have the followig q-versios of (1.5 ad (1.6. Theorem 1.5 Let be a positive iteger, ad let a ad r be o-egative itegers with a. The, for 0 j 2r +1, there holds 2 1 (1+q k B,k (q 2r+1 q jk2 (r+1k 0 (mod (1+q. 3
Theorem 1.6 Let be a positive iteger, ad let a ad r be o-egative itegers with a. The, for 0 j 2r +1, there holds A,k (q 2r+1 q j(k2 +k 0 (mod 2. It is clear that (1.5 ad (1.6 follow from Theorems 1.5 ad 1.6 by lettig q 1. It should also be metioed that the a 0 case of Theorem 1.5 follows from [7, Theorem 1.3, while the a 0 case of Theorem 1.6 ca be deduced from [8, Theorem 1.3. 2 Proof of Theorem 1.2 We first prove (1.2 holds for r m ad s. Namely, m B,kB 2 m,k 1 2 ( 2 2 ( 2m m [ 1 +2m ( +m m ( ( +k +k. (2.1 1 2 m 1 It ca be easily proved by iductio that (see [16, Theorem 2.3(i ( 2 +m m 2m+ 2k ( 2 m+ k 1. 1 Moreover, by reversig the summatio order, we have m 1 ( ( +k +k 1 Hece, the idetity (2.1 is equivalet to m m k ( 2 ( 1 ( 2 2 2m +m m 2m B,k 2 m B m,k ( 2 m+ k 1. 1 m 1 ( 2 m+ k 1 k. (2.2 1 Deote the left-had side ad right-had side of (2.2 by S (m ad T (m, respectively. The Zeilberger s algorithm [15, 19 gives ( 2 +m (2m+S (m+1 (2m++2S (m+, ( 2 +m (2m+T (m+1 (2m++2T (m+. Sice S (0 T (0 0, we coclude that S (m T (m for all o-egative itegers m. 4
To prove that (1.2 also holds for r ad s m, otig that m B,kB 2 m,k B,kB 2 m,k, it suffices to prove ( 1 +m m ( ( +k +k 1 1 m 1 which is equivalet to or 1 m+1 m ( +m+1 ( +m ( 2 ( 2 1 1 1 1 (+k +1m+(+1(k +1 m+1 1 ( 1 2 1 ( m+k m ( ( m+k +1 +k m+1 1 ( ( m+k +k m 1 ( m+k m ( +k 1 ( +m ( +m 1 ( +k, (2.3 1 ( +m 1 ( 2,. (2.4 But (2.4 ca be easily proved by Gosper s algorithm. This completes the proof of (2.3. 3 Proof of Theorem 1.3 The m 3 case of [10, Corollary 4.1 gives Namely, 1 k1 k 3 1 2 3 1 k1 k 3 ( 1 + 2 1 +k 1 3 2 ( 1 + 3 ( 2 + 3 2 +k 1 1 ( 3 + 1 3 +k ( 3 +k 2 k 1 k1 ( 21 ( 22 ( 23 1 +k 2 +k 3 +k ( 1 1 k 1 1 ( 1 + 3 (1 + 2!( 2 + 3!( 3 + 1! 1 ( 3 +k 2 2 2 1 (2 1!(2 2!(2 3! k 1 5 k1 ( 2 + 3 2 k. Lettig 1 3 ad 2 m i (3.1, we obtai ( 2 ( 1 ( 2 2 2m +m m 2m B 2 m,kb m,k Combiig (2.2 ad (3.2, we get (1.3. ( ( +k 2 1 k 1 k 1 Remark. The idetity (1.3 ca also be proved by Zeilberger s algorithm. 4 Proof of Theorem 1.5 k1 ( m+ m k We first eed to establish the followig result, which is similar to [7, Theorem 1.1.. (3.2 Theorem 4.1 Let be a positive iteger ad let a,r be o-egative itegers with a. The, for j 0,1, there holds 2 [2k[k 2r q (r+1( k+jk2 k 2 0 (mod [+a. Proof. For j 0, let S r (a,;q 2 [2k[k 2r q (r+1( k. k It is easily see that (via telescopig S 0 (a,;q 2 [2kq k 2 [ k +1 k k +1 2 [+1 +1 2 [+a. For r 1, sice we have [k 2 [ 2 k 2 q k [ 2 k 2 [ k k 2 2 [2[2 1, k 1 S r (a,;q [ 2 S r 1 (a,;q q r [2[2 1S r 1 (a, 1;q, 1,2,... (4.1 6
Applyig the recurrece relatio (4.1 ad by iductio o r, we ca easily prove that, for all positive itegers r, there holds 2 S r (a,;q 0 (mod [+a. (4.2 For j 1, let T r (a,;q 2 [2k[k 2r q (r+1( k+k2. k Usig the relatio [ k q [ k q k(k, we have T 1 r (a,;q q 2 +2r+2 2r 1 S r (a,;q 1. Therefore, from (4.2 we deduce that 2 T r (a,;q 0 (mod [+a. Sice both S r (a,;q ad T r (a,;q are polyomials i q, we obtai the desired result. We also eed the followig geeralizatio of Theorem 4.1. Theorem 4.2 Let 1,..., m, m+1 1 be positive itegers. The for ay o-egative itegers a, j ad r with a 1 ad j m, the expressio 1 1 1 + m 1 m [2k[k 2r q jk2 (r+1k i + i+1 (4.3 [ m +a 1 a i +k is a Lauret polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets. Proof. Deote (4.3 by S r (a; 1,..., m ;j,q. Let C(a 1,...,a l ;k l i1 The we ca write S a ( 1,..., m ;r,j,q as S r (a; 1,..., m ;j,q (q;q 1 a(q;q m+a 1 (q;q 1 + m For m 3, there holds C( 1,..., m ;k (q;q 2 + 3 (q;q m+ 1 (q;q 1 + 2 (q;q m+ 3 ai +a i+1 a i +k 1 [ 1 + 2 1 +k i1 (a l+1 a 1. (4.5 By the q-chu-vadermode summatio formula (see, for example, [1, p. 37, (3.3.10, we have 1 + 2 1 k 1 k 2 +k q s(s+2k, 1 +k s s+2k s0 7
which may be rewritte as [ 1 + 2 1 +k 1 + 2 1 k 2 +k s0 q s2 +2ks (q;q 1 + 2, (4.6 (q;q s (q;q s+2k (q;q 1 k s(q;q 2 k s where we assume that 1 (q;q 0 for ay egative iteger. Substitutig (4.5 ad (4.6 ito (4.4, we obtai S r (a; 1,..., m ;j,q (q;q 2 + 3 (q;q 1 a(q;q m+a 1 (q;q m+ 3 (q;q 2 + 3 (q;q 1 a(q;q m+a 1 (q;q m+ 3 1 1 k s0 1 q l2 la where l s+k. Noticig that, for m 3, C( 3,..., m ;k (q;q l k (q;q l+k la q s2 +2ks+jk 2 (r+1k [2k[k 2r C( 3,..., m ;k (q;q s (q;q s+2k (q;q 1 k s(q;q 2 k s l q (j 1k2 (r+1k [2k[k 2r C( 3,..., m ;k, (q;q l k (q;q l+k (q;q 1 l(q;q 2 l (q;q m+ 3 C(l, 3,..., m ;k, (q;q 3 +l(q;q m+l we are led to the followig recurrece relatio 1 1 a 2 + S r (a; 1,..., m ;j,q q l2 3 S r (a;l, 3,..., m ;j 1,q. For m 1, the coclusio is true by Theorem 4.1. Suppose that S r (a; 1,..., m 1 ;j,q is a Lauret polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets for some m 2 ad all j with 0 j m 1. The by (4.7 (if m 3 or (4.8 (if m 2, so is S r (a; 1,..., m ;j,q for 1 j m. Furthermore, sice S r (a; 1,..., m ;0,q S r (a; 1,..., m ;m,q 1 q 1 2 + 2 3 + + m 1 m m+a(a+ m 1 1 2r for m 2, oe sees that S r (a; 1,..., m ;0,q is also a Lauret polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets. This completes the proof. Note that, by (4.8 ad the q-chu-vadermode summatio formula, there holds 1 + 2 1 S 0 (a; 1, 2 ;1,q q a2 a. 1 +a 1 Let Φ (x be the -th cyclotomic polyomial. The followig result is very useful i dealig with q-biomial coefficiets (see [14, (10 or [3, 9. 8
Propositio 4.3 The q-biomial coefficiet [ m k ca be factorized ito m Φ d (q, k d where the product is over all positive itegers d m such that k/d + (m k/d < m/d. Proof of Theorem 1.5. Lettig m 2r +1 ad 1 2r+1 i Theorem 4.2, we see that 1 2r+1 1 2 [2k[k 2r q jk2 (r+1k 2 [+a k 1 1 [2 [ 2 1 (1+q k q jk2 (r+1k ([B,k (q 2r+1 is a Lauret polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets. Note that B,k (q is a polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets (see [6, 10. Therefore, gcd ( [2 2 1,[ 2r+1 [2 2 1 (1+q k q jk2 (r+1k B,k (q 2r+1 is a Lauret polyomial i q with iteger coefficiets. It is well-kow that [ d d>1 Therefore, from Propositio 4.3 we immediately deduce that ( 2 1 gcd,[ 1. Φ d (q, (4.9 Moreover, we have [2 (1+q [ ad gcd(1+q,[ 1.
