DIN 99 standard for destruction of data carriers The new DIN 99 standard for the destruction of data carriers defines three protection classes, six material categories and seven security levels. Your data has to be classified by you and assigned to one of the three protection classes (internal, confidential, very confidential or secret data). The determined protection class defines the security levels appropriate for your classified data. Most important for document shredders is the material category P with the security levels P to P for information in original size, for example on paper, films or printing plates.
