Application Guidelines When using Plastic film capacitors, pay strict attention to the following; 1. DC Rated voltage vs. AC Rated voltage Rated voltage of capacitor is normally specified at DC voltage except for special type. When DC rated capacitor is operated in AC circuit, Please consult our engineering department for assistance in these application. RATED VOLTAGE 50 63 100 125 200 250 275 315 400 450 500 630 1000 1250 1600 2. Rated voltage vs. Operating temperature Use the plastic film capacitors according to the specified operating temperature range. Usage at room temperature will ensure longer life. When operating Metallized Polyester Film Capacitors(Series 230S) at high temperature range(max. 105 ), the rated voltage shall be derated to operating temperature. However, in case of Metallized Polypropylene Film Capacitors(Series 430S), they shall be operated within the specified temperature range since their heat shrinkage is much greater than Metallized Polyester Film. Dielectric Type Rated Temperature 310S, 910S Polyester Dipe 230S, 230M -40 + 85 330S Polypropylene Dipe 510S, 430S 530S, 598S 435D, 460S -40 + 85 Box 530B, 598B 436D -40 + 100 3. Operating temperature Operating temperature is specified as a sum of ambient temperature and inherent temperature rise. Especially at high frequency operation, temperature of capacitor rises inherently. For such an application, make sure that the temperature at capacitor surface is within the operating temperature range. SUNIL ELECTRONICS IND. CO., LTD.
Application Guidelines 4. Inherent temperature rise When capacitor is operated in AC circuit, especially at high frequency, temperature of capacitor rises inherently. In case temperature rises to high, performance of capacitor may be deteriorated or damaged. The inherent temperature rise at no air circulation(ambient temperature at 40 )shall be within a value specified follow. (1) Metallized Polyester Film Capacitors (230S Series) Within ± 15 (2) Metallized Polypropylene Film Capacitors (430S Series) Within ± 15 (3) Range of a working temperature A working temperature of a capacitor, which is calculated from (Ambient temperature) + (Temperature rise due to radiation heat from other heat sources), has been specified by type. When using a capacitor, check that a working temperature comes within specified limits. When used in a high-frequency AC circuit, a capacitor generates heat due to a current running through the capacitor. And when the self-heat generation is large, the capacitor may deteriorate or there is the risk break down by heat. When using a capacitor, make sure that your requirements are within a working temperature and a specified value of self-temperature rise shown below. Dielectric Self-Temperature rise Type Metallized polypropylene capacitor Within 10 435D, 436D, 460S, 430S Polypropylene capacitor Within 5 510S, 530S, 598S, 530B, 598B Metallized polyester capacitor Within 15 230M, 230S Polyester capacitor Within 15 310S, 330S Polyester & Polypropylene capacitor Within 7 910S 5. General precautions (1) Soldering conditions When soldering, high temperature and long time process may result in deterioration of electric characteristics or short-circuit. Please pay attentions to the handing of capacitors. SUNIL ELECTRONICS IND. CO., LTD.
Application Guidelines (2) Shock to capacitors Attention must be paid so that any sharp objects like air-driver, soldering iron, pincette edge and etc. mat not stick strongly to surface of capacitors, Otherwise short circuit, etc, will occur. (3) Load to lead wire If excessive force is applied to the lead wires, it may be broken or its connections with the internal may be affected. (4) Charging/Discharging If used in circuits in which charge and discharge are frequently repeated, the capacitance value may crop or the capacitor may be damaged. Please consult our engineering department for assistance in these applications. SUNIL ELECTRONICS IND. CO., LTD.
Application Guidelines Soldering work (1) Soldering of a capacitor with leads 1) When soldering a capacitor with leads by se of a soldering iron or a soldering bath, heat is conducted to the interior of the capacitor. There for, solder in accordance with the following conditions. If dipping a capacitor into solder twice, the second dipping shall be carried after a temperature of the capacitor goes back to room temperature.(time to leave a capacitor at room temperature: For about 30 minutes) 2) If soldering a capacitor together with a chip-type component which has been mounted on a pc board, conditions vary. Contact us. (2) Soldering for CHA type capacitors 1) Reflow Soldering 1 The maximum temperature in preheating shall be 165 or less, and the time shall be within 70 seconds. 2 Soldering at 230 or more shall be preformed within 30 seconds. 3 The maximum temperature shall be 260 4 A temperature specified here is one measured on a surface of a capacitor. 2) Flow Soldering 1 The maximum temperature in preheating shall be 150 or less, and the time shall be within 180 seconds. 2 Solder time shall be within 5 seconds. 3 The maximum temperature shall be 250 3) Iron Soldering 1 Mount a capacitor, being careful not to allow soldering iron to touch a capacitor directly. 2 After getting solder molten on a land, put a capacitor on it. 3 Remove a soldering iron as soon molten solder conforms to the capacitor. 4 The maximum temperature of the soldering iron tip and soldering time shall be 270 and 4 seconds, and a capacitor shall be mounted at minimal thermal capacitor. 5 Avoid reusing capacitors which have been mounted on a board once. SUNIL ELECTRONICS IND. CO., LTD.
Application Guidelines (3) Soldering of CAN-type capacitors 1) Reflow soldering 1 Mount a capacitor, being careful not to allow a soldering iron to touch a capacitor directly. 2 After getting solder molten on a land, put a capacitor on it. 3 Remove a soldering iron as soon as molten solder confirms to a capacitor. 4 The maximum temperature on the soldering iron tip and soldering time shall be 260 and 4 seconds. 5 Avoid reusing capacitors which have been mounted on a board once.
