When you are finished with your continent, you will be asked to describe your continent in an essay, poster, or travel brochure. Follow the steps below. DRAWING YOUR CONTINENT 1) Place a compass rose on your map in the compass rose box. Make sure the north of the compass rose is pointing to the north side of your map! 2) Number the lines of latitude and longitude on your map in units of 10 degrees. If the Equator or Prime Meridian is near your continent, label them. Use an atlas or globe to help with numbering. 3) You must include at least one of each of these geographic features. Make a symbol to show how you will identify each feature on the map. Use the table to help. Draw each symbol next to the required feature on your map. Feature Symbol Feature Symbol River Forest Lake Mountain Plain Harbor Peninsula Island Valley Basin Gulf 4) These features must form at least four different geographic regions on your continent. Lightly shade each region a different color and label the four regions on your map and on the legend. 5) Make a legend on your map show each symbol and what it means. 6) Give names to features you think are important.
