Page 2 of 11 different particle morphologies were used as appropriate carrier particles for postprocessing crosslinking reactions. Optimum particle morphology and size were estimated for preparation of dry liquids. The dry liquids were tested in three typical crosslinking reactions of polymers, e.g. postprocessing crosslinking of grafted ethylene/butyl acrylate copolymer, UV crosslinking of metallocene PE and postprocessing crosslinking of silane-grafted isotactic PP. 11 refs. These techniques include contact surface visualisation using transmission optics and contact surface visualisation using reflection optics. The key problem for further research is how to

Page 4 of 11 POLYAMIDE AND POLYSTYRENE Page Range: p.t/19-t/24 Author(s): Kakhramanly Y N; Bilalov Y M; Azizov A G An examination was made of the influence of the concentration of the compatibiliser, a graft copolymer of PS with maleic anhydride, on the compatibility of a polyamide-ps blend in a wide range of ratios. The influence of the length and frequency of distribution of the graft chains of the graft copolymer on the compatibility and deformation and strength properties of the polyamide-ps blend was established. The effectiveness of the compatibilisers developed was determined, in most cases, by their ability to be grouped in the interphase region to ensure the necessary adhesion in the boundary zone of the components of the blend. In selecting the graft copolymer, it was necessary to take into account not only its content in the polymer composite but also the length and frequency of distribution of the graft chains which, together, were responsible for the compatibility of the components of the blend and their high deformation and strength properties. 21 refs. Both stretching and deformation vibrations were assigned to the corresponding groups. The existence of a number of characteristic absorption bands of aromatic polyamines was shown. 5 refs. Page 6 of 11 The effect of Trigonox 301 (3,6,9-triethyl-3,6,9-trimethyl-1,4,7-triperoxonane) on the melt flow and organoleptic properties of PP was investigated. It was shown that the application of this peroxide at the extrusion stage made it possible to synthesise a polymer with controllable impact strength and a reduced content of volatile substances in comparison with other types of peroxide. The physicomechanical properties of PP were retained when Trigonox 301 was used. 10 refs. (Article translated from Plasticheskie Massy, No.2, 2012, p.22-25) Title: INFLUENCE OF THE CROSSLINKING METHOD ON THE CHEMICAL NETWORK STABILITY OF POLYETHYLENE CABLE INSULATION UNDER THERMOMECHANICAL ACTION Page Range: p.t/33-t/36 Author(s): Lyamkin D I; Skroznikov S V; Zhemerikin A N; Kobets A V; Cherkashin P A; Cherepennikov S V The thermomechanical method was used to assess the density of the three-dimensional

Page 7 of 11 chemical network and the reliable working time of cable insulation, produced by different manufacturers, based on PE crosslinked by radiation, peroxide and silanol methods. It was shown that the reliable working time of the threedimensional chemical network was higher in the case of the peroxide crosslinking method than in the case of the silanol and radiation methods as a result of the different temperature conditions of curing. 5 refs. (Article translated from Plasticheskie Massy, No.2, 2012, p.25-28) Title: INVESTIGATING THE MOLECULAR MOBILITY OF CELLULOSE ESTERS WITH SUBSTITUTED AROMATIC ACIDS BY THE DIELECTRIC LOSS METHOD Page Range: p.t/37-t/40 Author(s): Protopopov A V; Kon'shin V V; Chemeris N A; Chemeris M M; Skurydina E M; Kovalenko A A The dielectric loss tangent method was used to investigate the molecular mobility of cellulose esters with aromatic carboxylic acids as acylation agents. The influence of the nature of the substituent on the relaxation transition temperatures in the obtained polymers was studied. For cellulose esters containing an amino group,

Page 8 of 11 there was a reduction in the flow temperature, while for those containing an oxy group there was an increase in the flow temperature in comparison with the relaxation transition in aspen wood. The influence of the position of the substituent on the low-temperature relaxation processes occurring in cellulose esters with aromatic carboxylic acids having para- and ortho-substituents in the benzene ring was established. 8 refs. For articles formed in apertures of complex configuration, an analytical variant was proposed for calculating their geometric parameters, based on conformal transformation methods. The proposed procedure was shown to assist at the stage of preparation for production to predict the

Page 9 of 11 shape and size of the aperture to be used during thermoforming, with the aim of producing articles of complex shape with more stringent geometric parameter requirements and, ultimately, to expand the range of products and improve the quality of articles produced by free forming. 4 refs. The methodology for theoretical parametric identification of this model was shown, with subsequent prediction of the results of a thermomechanical experiment. The mathematical formalism and the developed methodology should be of use for the synthesis of densely crosslinked polymeric materials in specified temperature and stress fields for use as binders in polymer composites. 5 refs. Page 10 of 11 Title: DEGRADATION OF MATERIALS BASED ON LOW-DENSITY POLYETHYLENE AND NATURAL FILLERS Page Range: p.t/55-t/58 Author(s): Pantyukhov P V; Khvatov A V; Monakhova T V; Popov A A; Kolesnikova N N A study was made of the process of thermal degradation of blended composites based on LDPE with different natural fillers, i.e. flax shive, sunflower husks, banana skins, birch leaves and cereal chaff. The different effects of additives of dissimilar nature on the kinetic parameters of thermal oxidation, the deformation, the thermal degradation and the water absorption of composites were established. The composites produced exhibited different degrees of resistance to thermooxidative degradation. The use of sunflower husks and flax shive yielded a material that oxidised much more rapidly than the initial LDPE. The shape of the filler particles affected the mechanical characteristics of the material. Fibrous filler particles created high strength and low elasticity in the material, whereas spherical filler particles in the material were able to stretch fairly well and did not readily rupture. 4 refs.
