Starting point of the discussion about cross-border metropolitan regions (CBMR) in Germany Starting point of the Cross-Border Metropolitan Regions Initiative (IMeG) has been the German spatial development concept growth and innovation passed 2006 by the Standing Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial Planning (MKRO). When the concepts were elaborated, the border areas had not been taken into account to an adequate degree whereas the interior metropolitan regions had been regarded.
