Workshop for School students One of the auspicious programmes of the chapters is the workshop for school students conducted every year during the summer holidays. This outreach program aims to attract talented students to the fascinating world of Science and Technology. This year Chapter organized a workshop on "Physics: Scope and Awareness" during 23 rd - 28 th of April 2012. Students from all over Kerala attended the programme. Year by year it is getting more appreciation. We are happy to say that most of the attendees of previous year s workshop had selected science as their main topic for higher studies. The classes were handled by the faculty members of the university. During the workshop a telescope making session also were organized in which the participating students built their own telescopes. Cochin University Vice Chancellor Dr. Ramachandran Thekkedath inaugurating the workshop School students during the workshop

Academy of Physics Teachers( APT ) annual meeting and award function The Academy of Physics Teachers (APT) in Kerala is working hand in hand with Cochin University SPIE student chapter. As part of its annual meeting SPIE Cochin university student chapter and APT conducted a seminar on Adventures with Physics teaching and learning by Professor. C. Vijayan from IIT Madras. Prizes were distributed to the winners of talent search exam conducted by APT as part of the programme. The Vice Chancellor of CUSAT inaugurating the annual meeting of APT Prof. C. Vijayan delivering the talk

The Audience for APT annual meeting Finishing school programme 2012 SPIE CUSAT Student chapter is currently organizing a series of training classes to equip the chapter members, post graduate and MPhil students of the department to improve the problem solving skills and reasoning ability etc to appear the National Eligibility Test (NET), Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering etc. This year s classes started in September 2012. SPIE members and faculty members are handling the classes. The ongoing classes will last till the end of this year. The mission of finishing school 2012 is to enhance employability of fresh graduates and aspiring teachers Regular Seminar Series Chapter organizes a series of seminars for the benefit of research and masters student community of the department. Along with the lectures interactive session with the experts were also arranged. The List of Seminars conducted this year is given below.
