A REMARK ON THE BISMUT-RICCI FORM ON 2-STEP NILMANIFOLDS MATTIA PUJIA AND LUIGI VEZZONI arxiv:1707.08809v1 [math.dg] 27 Jul 2017 Abstract. In this note we observe that on a 2-step nilpotent Lie group equippe with a left-invariant SKT structure the (1, 1)-part of the Bismut-Ricci form is seminegative efinite. As application we give a simplifie proof of the non-existence of invariant SKT static metrics on 2-step nilmanifols an of the existence of a long time solution to the pluriclose flow in 2-step nilmanifols. 1. The Bismut Ricci form on 2-step SKT nilmanifols An Hermitian manifol is calle SKT if its funamental form is -close. The SKT conition can be escribe in terms of the Bismut connection by requiring that the torsion form is close. Inee, on any Hermitian manifol (M,g) there is a unique Hermitian connection such that the tensor c := g(t(, ), ) is skew-symmetric in its entries [2], where T is the torsion of. The metric g is SKT if an only if c = 0. In this note we focus on the Ricci form of. In analogy to the Kähler case, the form is efine by ρ B (X,Y) = tr ω R B (X,Y,, ), ω being the funamental form of g an R B the curvature tensor of. We consier as manifol M a 2-step nilpotent Lie group G equippe with an invariant Hermitian structure (J,g). Uner these assumptions, the form ρ B takes the following expression (1) ρ B (X,Y) = i g([x,y],[z r, Z r ]), for every X,Y g, where {Z r } is an arbitrary g-unitary frame of the Lie algebra g of G 1. More generally, if G is just a Lie group with an invariant Hermitian structure, ρ B takes the following expression (2) ρ B { (ω)(x,y) = i g([[x,y] 1,0,Z r ], Z r ) g([[x,y] 0,1, Z r ],Z r ) g([x,y],[z r, Z r ]) }. We have the following Proposition 1.1. Let G be a 2n-imensional 2-step nilpotent Lie group with a left-invariant SKT structure (J,g). Then ρ B (Z, Z) = i [Z, Z r ] 2 for every Z g 1,0, where {Z r } is an arbitrary unitary frame. In particular, ρ B (X,JX) 0 for every X g. Date: July 28, 2017. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. 2 MATTIA PUJIA AND LUIGI VEZZONI Proof. Let Z an W be vector fiels of type (1,0) on g C an let ω be the funamental form of g. Then we irectly compute ω(z, Z,W, W) = ω([z, Z],W, W)+ ω([z,w], Z, W) ω([z, W], Z,W) ω([ Z,W],Z, W)+ ω([ Z, W],Z,W) ω([w, W],Z, Z) The SKT assumption ω = 0 implies = ω([z, Z] 0,1,W, W)+ ω([z,w], Z, W) ω([z, W] 0,1, Z,W) ω([ Z,W] 0,1,Z, W)+ ω([ Z, W],Z,W) ω([w, W] 0,1,Z, Z) = ω([z, Z] 0,1,[W, W] 1,0 )+ω([z,w],[ Z, W]) ω([z, W] 0,1,[ Z,W] 1,0 ) ω([ Z,W] 0,1,[Z, W] 1,0 )+ω([ Z, W],[Z,W]) ω([w, W] 0,1,[Z, Z] 1,0 ) =+ig([z, Z] 0,1,[W, W] 1,0 )+ig([z,w],[ Z, W])+ig([Z, W] 0,1,[ Z,W] 1,0 ) +ig([ Z,W] 0,1,[Z, W] 1,0 ) ig([ Z, W],[Z,W])+ig([W, W] 0,1,[Z, Z] 1,0 ) =+ig([z, Z],[W, W])+ig([Z, W],[ Z,W]). g([z, Z],[W, W]) = g([z, W],[ Z,W]). Therefore in view of (1) we get ρ B (Z, Z) = i g([z, Z],[Z r, Z r ]) = i g([z, Z r ],[ Z,Z r ]), being {Z r } an arbitrary unitary frame, an the claim follows. Remark 1.2. Another escription of the Bismut-Ricci form on 2-step nilmanifols can be foun in [1]. Next we observe that in general the form ρ B is not seminegative efinite if we rop the the assumption on G to be nilpotent or on the metric to be SKT. Example 1.3. Let g be the solvable unimoular Lie algebra with structure equations e 1 = 0, e 2 = e 13, e 3 = e 12, e 4 = e 23, equippe with the complex structure Je 1 = e 4 an Je 2 = e 3 an the SKT metric 4 g = e r e r + 1 2 (e1 e 3 +e 3 e 1 ) 1 2 (e2 e 4 +e 4 e 2 ). By using (2) with respect to a unitary frame {Z r } we easily get In particular ρ B = 2 3 e12 2 3 e13 + 4 3 e23. ρ B (e 2,Je 2 ) = 4 an ρ B (4e 1 +e 2,J(4e 1 +e 2 )) = 4 3 3 which implies that ρ B is not seminegative efinite as (1,1)-form. Example 1.4. Let (g, J) be the 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra with structure equations e 1 = e 2 = e 3 = 0, e 4 = e 12, e 5 = e 23, e 6 = e 13, an equippe with the complex structure Je 1 = e 2, Je 3 = e 4 an Je 5 = e 6 an the non-skt metric 6 g = e r e r + 1 2 (e3 e 6 +e 6 e 3 ) 1 2 (e4 e 5 +e 5 e 4 ). Again by using (2) with respect to a unitary frame {Z r } we easily get ρ B = e 12 1 2 e23,
A REMARK ON THE BISMUT-RICCI FORM ON 2-STEP NILMANIFOLDS 3 which implies that ρ B is not seminegative efinite as (1,1)-form. 2. Non-existence of invariant SKT metrics satisfying (ρ B ) 1,1 = λω In this section we observe that our proposition 1.1 easily implies that on a 2-step nilpotent Lie groups there are no SKT invariant metrics such that (ρ B ) 1,1 = λω for some constant λ. This result is alreay known: the case λ = 0 was stuie in [4], while the case λ 0 follows from [5]. Inee in the setting of proposition 1.1, if we assume (ρ B ) 1,1 = λω, then, taking into account that the center of G in not trivial, formula (1) implies λ = 0 an from proposition 1.1 it follows [g 1,0,g 0,1 ] = 0. Therefore if {ζ k } is a unitary co-frame in g we have an we can write ζ k = 0 ζ k = c k rs ζr ζ s. for some c k rs in C. Then ( n ) ( n ) ω = i ζ k ζ k = i c k rs ζk ζ r ζ s = i c k ab ck rs ζa ζ b ζ r ζ s an the SKT assumption implies that all the c k rs s vanish in contrast to the assumption on G to be not abelian. 3. Long-time existence of the pluriclose flow on 2-step nilmanifols The pluriclose flow(pcf) is a parabolic flow of Hermitian metrics which preserves the SKT conition. The flow is efine on an SKT manifol (M,ω) as t ω t = (ρ B ω t ) 1,1, ω t=0 = ω, where ρ B ω t is compute with respect to ω t an the superscript 1,1 is the (1,1)-component with respect to J. The flow was introuce in [10] an then investigate in [3, 10, 11, 12, 13] an it is a powerful tool in SKT geometry. In [6] it is prove that on a 2-step nilpotent Lie group the flow has always a long-time solution for any initial invariant atum. The proof makes use of the bracket flow evice introuce by Lauret in [9]. In our setting, let G be a 2-step nilpotent Lie group with a left-invariant complex structure J an consier the PCF equation starting form an invariant SKT form ω. The solution ω t hols invariant for every t an, therefore, the flow can be regare as on ODE on Λ 2 g g, where g is the Lie algebra of G. The bracket flow evice consists in evolving the Lie bracket on g instea of the form ω. For this purpose one consiers the bracket variety A consisting on the elements λ Λ 2 g g such that (3) (4) (5) λ(λ(x,y),v)) = 0, λ(jx,jy) Jλ(JX,Y) Jλ(X,JY) λ(x,y) = 0, λ λ ω = 0. for every X,Y,V g, where the operators λ an λ are compute by using the bracket λ. Any λ A gives a structure of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra to g such that (J,ω) is a SKT structure. It turns out that the PCF is equivalent to a bracket flow type equation, i.e. an ODE in A. The equivalence between the two equations is obtaine by evolving the initial bracket µ of g as being h t the curve in En(g) solving µ t (X,Y) = h t µ(h 1 t Y), X,Y g, t h t = 1 2 h tp ωt, h t=0 = I
4 MATTIA PUJIA AND LUIGI VEZZONI an P ωt En(g) is efine by The form ω t reas in terms of h t as Now in view of formula (1) ω t (P ωt X,Y) = 1 2 ( ρ B ωt (X,Y)+ρ B ω t (JX,JY) ). ω t (X,Y) = ω(h t X,h t Y). ρ B ω t (X, ) = 0 for every X ξ an then ω t (X, ) = ω(x, ) for every X ξ, where ξ is the center of µ. Let ξ be the g-orthogonal complement of ξ in g an let g t be the Hermitian metric corresponing to the solution to the PCF equation starting from ω. Then t g t(x, ) = 0 for every X ξ an g t preserves the splitting g = ξ ξ an the flow evolves only the component of g in ξ ξ. It follows that h t preserves the splitting g = ξ ξ an h t ξ = I ξ. Since (g,µ) is 2-step nilpotent, then µ(x,y) ξ for every X,Y g an Therefore t µ t(x,y) = µ(ht 1 ḣ t h 1 where for any λ A we set ω(p λ X,Y) = i 1 2 µ t (X,Y) = µ(h 1 t Y). t Y) µ(h 1 t ḣ t h 1 t Y) = µ t (ḣth 1 t X,Y) µ t (X,ḣth 1 t Y) = 1 2 µ t(p µt X,Y)+ 1 2 µ t(x,p µt Y), ( g(λ(x,y),λ(zr, Z r ))+g(λ(jx,jy),λ(z r, Z r )) ) being {Z r } an arbitrary g-unitary frame an in the last step we have use Hence the bracket flow equations writes as h t P ωt = P µt h t. t µ t(x,y) = 1 2 µ t(p µt X,Y)+ 1 2 µ t(x,p µt Y), µ t=0 = µ an its solution satisfies t g(µ t,µ t ) = 2g( µ t,µ t ) = 4 2 r,s=1 g(µ t (P µt e r,e s ),µ t (e r,e s )) being {e r } an arbitrary g-orthonormal frame. In view of proposition 1.1 all the eigenvalues of any P µt are nonpositive. Fixing t an taking as {e r } an orthonormal basis of eigenvectors of P µt we get t g(µ t,µ t ) = 4 2 r,s=1 Therefore t g(µ t,µ t ) 0 an the PCF is efine in [0, ). a r g(µ t (e r,e s ),µ t (e r,e s )) 0.
