Note: Plots taken in field via Garvin Legacy GPS, NAD 983. e. Other Locational Data: The site is located near the intersection of Gem Lane and Alessandro Boulevard. Elevation: 600'ASL. *P3a. Description: This site consists of 0 prehistoric bedrock milling features on a series of coarse grained to moderately coarse grained bedrock outcrops. A total of 5 milling surfaces were observed. No prehistoric artifacts near these milling features were detected, although heavy grass covering the site may have hid surface artifacts from view. The site was Phase tested for significance using a shovel test pit and screen method during compliance efforts in August 006. All but Feature # showed no evidence of buried cultural resources and no stone artifacts were recovered. Except for this one area, the site was determined to be not significant under the CEQA process. Section 06 analysis did not occur. Prior to any development, we recommended that the area about Feature be Phase 3 excavated following County of Riverside guidelines. P5a. Features: (Number, briefly describe, indicate size, list assoc. cultural constituents, show location of each feature on sketch map.) The site includes 5 individual milling surfaces located on 0 bedrock features. All are located on weathered, slightly decomposing granite boulders/outcrops. Some very minor fire damage on these outcrops were noted. Testing of this site took place. At least screened shovel test pits 50cm in diameter were excavated around each outcrop feature. These pits were excavated thru the loose light brown gravelly topsoil to a sterile A horizon (reddishbrown compact soil) or a bedrock contact. The ten milling features are located in a NWSE trending line where the outcrops break through the topsoil. Of these, only Feature was located in an area that is being actively tilled on a regular basis (fire break?). Feature 9 and 0 are located on an outcrop that looks slightly over the rest. During testing, a spot northwest of the Feature milling surfaces (Test pit #4a (GPS: 04746mE/375736mN) exhibited grayish tan soil and a single carbonized animal bone. It is presumed that additional subsurface materials will be found during subsequent excavation here. No other features exhibited buried cultural materials. The site once exhibited a series of features to the north, but since these were more than 75 meters distant, a decision was made to subdivide the site into more "clustered" feature units (project Temp #MD003). For specific information related to boulder/outcrop sizes and milling feature sizes, please refer to the Milling Station Record page. *A5.
