...The Leader in Cool Roof Tile MCA & Leed Credits A Product Solution for Green Architecture and Sustainable Building Design In today s world, an awareness and demand for energy efficient, environmentally friendly products is rapidly growing. Manufacturers have been challenged to meet the demand for products that are greener and longer lasting, particularly in products such as insulation and roofing materials. MCA clay tiles are qualified by the U.S. Green Building Counsel s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, which, among other things, promotes integrated, whole-building design practices, and recognizes environmental leadership in the building industry. Creating a green building, in effect, means matching the products and materials to the specific project design and site in order to minimize the overall environmental impact. In the past, building green was often associated with higher first costs versus savings on the life cycle maintenance costs. But, today, building green is a good long-term investment that doesn t have to cost more than a building with traditional materials. Saving energy not only benefits the environment and saves money by lowering energy costs, but also, MCA s Cool Roof tile comes at no additional cost. The Energy Star program has long recognized the consumer and environmental benefits of energy efficient products. This program also establishes the criteria for product qualification under LEED. In addition to earning the Energy Star rating on many of its products, MCA Clay Roof Tile can also contribute to earning LEED rating points. Below is a list of the Credits that can be earned by using MCA Clay Roof Tile. 2 EA - Energy & Atmosphere Credit 1 Optimize Energy Performance Many of MCA s colors meet the Energy Star standards and would assist in reaching the specified reduction of design energy cost. MR -Materials & Resources Credit 4.1 Recycled Content 5% Credit 4.2 Recycled Content 10% Note: 25% of MCA s clay content is pre-consumer recycled material *Credit 5.1 Local/Regional Materials 10% **Credit 5.2 Regional Materials 20% *M.C.A. s plant is located in Corona, CA, so, for projects in Southern California, credit will be given for meeting the requirement of manufacturing the product within 500 miles. **100% of the materials used in the manufacturing process were extracted within 500 miles of the project site. SS - Sustainable Sites Credit 7.2 Heat Island Effect Reduce Heat Islands to minimize the impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat. Option 1 Use roofing materials that have a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) equal to or greater than 29 for roof slopes >2:12 MCA has 33 colors listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council that meet this requirement.
