Step-by-Step Procedure for Creating Customized BEx Maps Applies to: SAP BI or product release (release 701, level 0004, SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0). For more information, visit the Business Intelligence homepage. Summary This document will provide information regarding implementing the BEx Maps using Web application designer and provides information about shape files and its use. Author: Ravikanth Indurthi Company: Intelligroup Asia Pvt Ltd. Created on: 07 August 2009 Author Bio Ravikanth.Indurthi has been working as an SAP BI consultant with Intelligroup Asia Pvt Ltd. since two years. He is mainly responsible for implementing SAP BW/BI projects and has worked extensively on SAP BI Modeling and SAP BI front-end tools like Web Application Designer, Query Designer and Crystal Reports. 2009 SAP AG 1

Introduction Many characteristics in the Business Information Warehouse, for example, customer, sales region, and country, contain important geographical information. You evaluate geographical information in the BEx Map, along with key figures that are relevant to business. The BEx Map is BW s Geographical Information System (GIS). It is integrated into the Business Explorer. With the BEx Map that is integrated into the BEx Analyzer, you can prepare and analyze data that has geographical relevance. The geo-relevant data is displayed on a map, so that you can see regional features and geographical connections at a glance. The BEx Map is part of the Business Explorer. It is used for reporting on geo-relevant data. Geo-relevant infoobjects are stored and maintained in the Metadata Repository. The master data for geoinfoobjects is equipped with geo-attributes. Infoobjects are geo-coded using an external tool: ArcView from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute). The BEx Map allows you to analyze regional features at different levels of detail. The basic concept underlying the BEx Map is that of laying different map layers, each containing various geographical data, one on top of the other, and displaying at them on one map. A map layer behaves in the same way as a transparent slide, which can be changed from visible to invisible. For every map layer, you can choose various types of graphical presentation (Renderers) to display your data, for example, color shading, bar charts or pie charts. With the BEx Map, you prepare and evaluate data of a geographical nature (characteristics such as customer, sales region, and country, for example). The geo-relevant data is displayed graphically on a map. Using enhanced navigation options ("geographical drilldown"), regional information can be evaluated more easily at different levels of detail. A map shows the spatial proximity of places and regions, allowing geographical connections to be more clearly represented. Maps help you with reporting geo-relevant data. By using the map Web item, you determine a geographical display in the BEx Web Application Designer for your business-oriented data for the Web application. 2009 SAP AG 3

Objective To show the below Daily transactional data loaded into the Infoproviders as Geo relevant data and report this data using BEx reports with maps. Transactional data for a customer is loaded into BI as a daily load. Note: Data removed from image to mask customer specific Images But the report output for the customers region wise (in respective states and districts) can be shown as below: 2009 SAP AG 4

Create Info Object Upload the shape files in the Infoobject for Districts map also create master data for the Infoobject which must have the same attributes and data as in DBF file for the respective map. Shape Files: The format of ArcView shapefiles uses the following files with special file enhancements:.dbf dbase file that saves the attributes or values of the characteristic This can be viewed using MS Excel file format..shp saves the current geometry of the characteristic This can be viewed using Arc view Explorer provided by ESRI..shx saves an index for the geometry These three files are saved for each static geo-characteristic in the Business Document Service (BDS) and loaded to the local computer from BDS when you use BEx Map. Select Static Geo-characteristic for Geographical type in BEx tab. 2009 SAP AG 5

Click on Upload Shape Files 1. Upload the Shape file for the object 2. Upload the DBF file for the object: 2009 SAP AG 6

3. Upload the Shape index file for the object Note: Similarly an infoobject is created for States and respective shapefiles are uploaded. 2009 SAP AG 7

Create Hierarchy for the Customer Infoobject Hierarchy on Customer Infoobject with State and district Infoobjects: 2009 SAP AG 8

Load Transactional Data for the Customer in the Infoprovider The data consists of Target and Achievement of each Customer. 2009 SAP AG 9

Design a Query with Same Customer Hierarchy States Query: This query consists of aggregated sales data at States level only. Query Output: 2009 SAP AG 10

Note: Sort the Hierarchy depending on the requirement. Districts Query: This query consists of detailed sales data at district level. Query Output: 2009 SAP AG 11

Create a Web-Template Use the web item MAP from the available web items and create two map layers: 1. For map layer1 use the States query as dataprovider and provide Bar graph as Map render. 2. For map layer2 give the districts query as dataprovider and color shading as Map render. 2009 SAP AG 12

Map Output: Execute the web template: Note: Put the cursor on the respective district, it will display the name and sales value. 2009 SAP AG 13

Other Features SAP BEx maps is one of the tool used for geo-relevant data publisher, which can be used to easily fetch the data from SAP systems for better reporting analysis. These reports can be exposed to the end users by publishing in the Enterprise portal. Google maps can also be used with the help of Web services and reported using the Adobe Flex. BO s Xcelsius is another Dash board tool, which can also be used to report using the Geo spatial Map data. 2009 SAP AG 14
