WHO I AM AND WHY I AM HERE The majority of these, almost 700, are small and medium-sized cities (between 50,000 and 250,000 inhabitants). https://www.pbl.nl/sites/default/files/cms/publicaties/pbl-2016-cities-in-europe-2469.pdf TAKING COOPERATION FORWARD 5

THE CITIENGOV PROJECT Acronym and Title CitiEnGov - Cities for a good energy governance https://www.interreg-central.eu/content.node/citiengov.html Financing programme Interreg Central Europe 2014-2020 Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme encourages cooperation on shared challenges in central Europe. With 246 million Euro of funding from the European Regional Development Fund, the Programme supports Institutions to work together beyond borders to improve Cities and Regions in Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Programme s priority Cooperating on low - carbon strategies in CENTRAL EUROPE Specific objective 2.2: To improve territorially based low-carbon energy planning strategies and policies supporting climate change mitigation TAKING COOPERATION FORWARD 6

THE CITIENGOV PROJECT Project idea Energy is a horizontal policy issue which influences directly or indirectly all other policy areas and consequently the whole socioeconomic system. Given this assumption, (urban) public authorities play a key role as "facilitators of the energy transformation process. They should coordinate approaches to formulate and plan low-carbon energy strategies. To achieve this, cities should set up energy units or empower those already established, mainly by providing them with tools and strategies but also giving them an effective role within the public administration. http://www.interreg-central.eu/content.node/citiengov.html TAKING COOPERATION FORWARD 7
