A strong low pressure will track into the mid-atlantic region Tuesday night through Wednesday night. Accumulating snow, strong winds and a possibly of coastal flooding will accompany the system. High pressure will return for the end of the week. Another low pressure system may impact the area early next week.
Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1800 Tuesday through 1900 Wednesday. Heavy wet snow accumulations of 8-14 inches. Snow will begin late Tuesday afternoon with a period of intense snow from 2200 Tuesday through 1000 Wednesday. Northeast winds from 5-15 MPH possible. Hazardous travel conditions with the potential for downed trees and power lines are expected.
Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1800 Tuesday through 2400 Wednesday. Heavy wet snow accumulations of 10-14 inches Rain mixing with snow Tuesday afternoon changing to all snow by early evening. There is a potential for heavy snow overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Northeast winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts of 35 MPH possible. Hazardous travel conditions with the potential for downed trees and power lines are expected.
Winter Storm Warning for Fredrick County from 2000 Tuesday until 0300 Thursday. Montgomery and Prince George s Counties remain in a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. Predicted accumulations for Frederick are between 6-10 inches with Montgomery and Prince George s to be 5 inches and up. Rain mixing with snow and changing to all snow Tuesday evening. There is a potential for heavy snow at times through Wednesday evening. Northeast winds 15-25 MPH with gusts of 35 MPH possible. Hazardous travel conditions with the potential for downed trees and power lines are expected.
Winter Storm Watch for Central MD will be in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday evening. A Winter Storm Watch for Southern MD will be in effect from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Heavy wet snow accumulations of 5 or more inches are expected. Rain mixing with snow Tuesday night in Central MD and Wednesday morning for Southern MD. There is a potential for periods of heavy snow during this event. Northeast winds 15-25 MPH with gusts of 40 MPH possible. Hazardous travel conditions with the potential for downed trees and power lines are expected.
Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon. A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect for Kent Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Heavy wet snow accumulations of between 3-5 inches are possible. Mixed precipitation will begin between midnight and 0500 Wednesday morning and gradually change to all snow. There is a potential for periods of heavy snow during the event. Northeast winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts of 40 MPH possible. Temperatures above freezing will assist melting on treated surfaces. There is a chance that enough wet snow will accumulate to cause a few branches to break and force isolated power outages.
Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Dorchester County from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night. A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect for Worcester County and Ocean City from late Tuesday night through Friday morning. Rain mixing with and changing to snow late Wednesday with snow continuing into Wednesday night. Heavy wet snow with accumulations of greater than 4 inches are expected in Dorchester County. Water levels along the Maryland Eastern Shore will surge to 2-3 feet above normal during high tide. Beach erosion is also possible due to the higher tides and large waves. North winds 20-30 MPH with gusts of 40 MPH possible. Hazardous driving are possible due to heavy wet snow and gusty winds.
There will be 2 conference calls Tuesday 1000 and 1600. MEMA will activate to a Level 3 Tuesday night at 1900 and to a Level 2 Wednesday at 0700 with ESF s 1 and 13. A WEBEOC incident has been created titled Weather Event 06 Mar 13.
