What is the National Spatial Plan? A framework and process for planning that is: National (to guide national development policies, programmes and investment) Spatial (concerned with location of people, their activities, the environment and their relationships) Strategic (main issues and interventions) SADC National Regional Local Urban settlements Rural development Environment Tourism Health Education Vertical coordination Horizontal coordination

Purpose of the NSP National Spatial Plan will provide strategic context to: To help fulfil Botswana s international and regional obligations, including SDG s, New Urban Agenda, SADC plans To articulate the spatial implications of the Vision 2036 pillars To guide and provide tools and data for the preparation of subnational spatial plans at the regional, district, local levels; To help coordinate the policies and initiatives of sectoral ministries housing, transport, education, health, environment, tourism, water, energy and communications To identify and analyse the status, trends and issues of spatial development and to develop a shared, spatial vision of where we want to grow and a road map for getting there
