Toolholders to the Spindle Centerline - Correction Page 2 of 9 pages
This section tells you how to align the toolholders [1] to the spindle centerline [2]. 1 Measure the alignment of the toolholders to the spindle centerline. Refer to ST, DS - TOOLHOLDERS TO THE SPINDLE CENTERLINE CHECK. 2 If you have a machine with a Y Axis, go to step 7. If the alignment is not correct, use the eccentric locator cam [1] to correct the alignment, as follows. 3 Loosen the cam screw a small distance. This will free the cam. Page 3 of 9 pages
4 Turn the cam with your hand to move the toolholder up or down. Turn the cam a maximum of 90 degrees clockwise to move the toolholder down. Turn the cam a maximum of 90 degrees counterclockwise to move the toolholder up. For example, if you turn the cam 15 degrees clockwise, this moves the toolholder down.0018" (0.046 mm). If you turn the cam 15 degrees counterclockwise, this moves the toolholder up.0018" (0.046 mm). 15 degrees = 0.0018" (0.046 mm) 30 degrees = 0.0035" (0.089 mm) 45 degrees = 0.0050" (0.13 mm) 60 degrees = 0.0060" (0.15 mm) 75 degrees = 0.0067" (0.17 mm) 90 degrees = 0.0070" (0.18 mm) 5 Tighten the cam screw. 6 Attach the pocket. Measure the alignment of the toolholders to the spindle centerline. Refer to ST, DS - TOOLHOLDERS TO THE SPINDLE CENTERLINE CHECK. Do steps 1-6 for each toolholder position on the turret. Page 4 of 9 pages
7 Move the turret to the pocket 1 position. 8 Measure the alignment of the toolholders to the spindle centerline. Refer to ST, DS - TOOLHOLDERS TO THE SPINDLE CENTERLINE CHECK. The indicator shows 0 at 3 o'clock [1] and 9 o'clock [2]. 9 Enter the value for Parameter 254 Spindle Center, as follows. In DEBUG mode, press [POSIT]. Record the COMMAND X value from the DEBUG RAW DATA. 10 Enter the recorded value for Parameter 254. Ignore the decimal point and the "-" sign. For example, for -78.2231 enter 782231. Page 5 of 9 pages
11 If you have a machine with a Y Axis, go to step 15. Do a test of the X offset to the centerline, as follows. Press [OFFSET] to go to the TOOL GEOMETRY offsets. Go to an unused offset. Press [F2] to see the Parameter 254 value in inches. Record the value. 12 Jog the Z Axis to move the turret away from the indicator. 13 Zero Return the X Axis. In MDI mode, program a move to the recorded X position. Press [CYCLE START] to start the program. 14 Measure the alignment of the toolholders to the spindle centerline. Refer to ST, DS - TOOLHOLDERS TO THE SPINDLE CENTERLINE CHECK. The test of the X offset to the centerline is complete. Page 6 of 9 pages
15 If you have a machine with a Y Axis, do the steps that follow. Record the value of parameter 700. 16 Set Parameter 700 to 0. 17 Multiply the value on the indicator by 1.414. For example, +0.0600 x 1.414 = +0.0848. Jog the Y Axis to the calculated value, for example +0.0848. 18 Jog the X Axis to move the turret to the centerline position. The indicator shows 0 at 3 o'clock [1] and 9 o'clock [2]. Refer to ST, DS - TOOLHOLDERS TO THE SPINDLE CENTERLINE CHECK. Note: In this context, 3 and 9 o'clock are parallel with the X-Axis movement. Page 7 of 9 pages
19 Manually turn the spindle. Stop when the indicator is at the 12 o'clock position. 20 Multiply the value on the indicator by 1.414. For example, +0.0600 x 1.414 = +0.0848. Jog the Y Axis to the calculated value, for example +0.0848. 21 Jog the X Axis again until the indicator shows 0 at 3 o'clock [1] and 9 o'clock [2]. 22 Do steps 20-21 again and again. Do the steps until the indicator shows 0 at 3 o'clock [1], 9 o'clock [2], and 12 [3] o'clock. Page 8 of 9 pages
23 In DEBUG mode, press [POSIT]. Record the COMMAND Y value from the DEBUG RAW DATA. 24 Change a negative number to a positive number. Or change a positive number to a negative number. And remove the "." from the number. Enter the value into [Parameter 211]. For example, if the raw data value is 11.0087, enter -110087. 25 Change parameter 700 back to the initial value. To test the offset to centerline, do steps 11-14 at this time. Be sure to calibrate the tool probe at this time. Refer to the procedure in the Lathe Operator's Manual. Page 9 of 9 pages
