Note: Internal Assessment/Evaluation of 10 marks based on the above study material. 6

PRACTICAL NON-CHORDATES II: COELOMATES 1. Identification with reason (at least one principal character for every step of taxonomic hierarchy plus 2-3 chracteristic features of the specimen concerned): Annelida: Aphrodite, Nereis, Sabella, Serpula, Chaetopterus, Pheretima, Hirudinaria. Arthropoda: Daphnia, Palaemon, Balanus, Cancer, Eupagurus, Scolopendra, Julus, Bombyx, Periplaneta, Termes and Apis. Arachnida: Araneus, Buthus. Merostomata (Xiphosura): Tachypleus/Carcinoscorpius (Indian Horseshoe Crabs). Onychophora: Peripatus. Mollusca: Chiton, Dentalium, Pila, Achatina, Doris, Unio, Pinctada, Sepia, Loligo, Octopus. Echinodermata: Asterias, Ophiura, Echinus, Cucumaria and Antedon. Hemichordata: Balanoglossus/Sacoglossus. 2. Mount of mouth parts of Periplaneta and Mosqutoe. 3. Dissection of digestive system and nervous system of Periplaneta. 4. Submission of Project Report on Social insects (Termites/Bees). Note: Only topic no. 4 should be selected for the Internal Assessment and these may not be repeated in final examination. Plasma Membrane: Structure of plasma membrane with reference to Fluid Mosaic Model. Transport across membranes: Active, Passive and Facilitated transport. Cell junctions: Tight junctions, Desmosomes and Gap junctions Unit 2 Endomembrane System: 15 Structure and functions of Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi apparatus, Lysosome and Peroxisome. Mitochondria: a) Structure (Semi-autonomous nature, Endosymbiotic hypothesis). b) Function (Oxidative phosphorylation /ETC). Unit 3 Cytoskeleton: 15 Structure and Functions: Microtubules, Microfilaments and Intermediate filaments. Nucleus: a) Structural organization (Nuclear envelope, nuclear pore complex, Nucleolus). b) Chromatin: Euchromatin and Hetrochromatin, Nucleosome Model. Unit 4 Cell Division: 15 a) Cell cycle and its regulation. b) Mitosis with significance. c) Meiosis with significance. Note: Internal Assessment/Evaluation of 10 marks based on the above study material. 8

PRACTICAL CELL BIOLOGY 1. Preparation of temporary stained squash of onion (Allium cepa) root tip to study various stages of mitosis. 2. Study of various stages of meiosis with permanent slides. 3. Preparation and identification of human Barr body female blood cells / buccal mucosal cells. 4. Preparation of an album on Plasmalemma and any one of the Cell Organelles with suitable sketches/drawings/microphotographs alongwith brief illustration. Note: Topic No. 4 as stated should be selected / considered for the Internal Assessment along with oral interaction (marks: 5+5=10) and this Topic will not be repeated in final examination.
