Assembling The Snow Plow is printed in ABS plastic so the best glue to use for permanent fixture is Cyanoacrylate adhesive or super glue. Be sure to remove any paint from areas where your parts will be glued together. Painting The purchase of a custom color Snow Plows affords you the opportunity to forgo painting the shell in its entirety and paint only the details as desired. If the standard gray shell was purchased then we recommend painting as much of the Snow Plow as possible before assembly. The body is printed in ABS plastic, paintable using enamel or acrylic based paints; with or without a primer. For a more realistic look, we did not sand the shell smooth; we have left it with the small layer lines slightly visible. However, the shell can be sanded smooth or a primer with filler can be applied before painting. After sanding the Snow Plow may be wiped down with Acetone to yield a super smooth glossy surface. 1) Installing the steps two sets of steps are provided in the kit, one for each side of the snow plow. Use superglue to affix the steps to the rear underside of the shell. 2) Installing the railing superglue the railing to the rear of the snow plow shell. The bottom of the railing should sit on the top of the deck and the top of the railings should fit under the roof. If the railings are too tall they can be trimmed with a hobby knife, wire cutters, or scissors. 4) Installing the clear plastic windows - you are provided with clear plastic windows cut to fit the windows on the snow plow cupola and main body. Locate each one and test fit before gluing. Use a small drop of super glue to affix the clear plastic to the body at key points. Hint: Be careful not to get glue on any part of the clear plastic that will be visible. 5) Attaching the body to the chassis - the body is designed to fit a standard American Flyer Caboose chassis that measures 42-44mm wide by 115-118mm long, in any of the following configurations. It is possible that the body will fit other brands of chassis that fall within the noted width and length. CPI Snow Plow Kit Assembly Instructions Copyright 2014 Catzpaw Innovations, LLC Page 4 of 6
Note: The front coupler either needs to be removed or rotated so that the coupler is located in the center of the chassis. Caution: there is a chance that the rotated coupler can short out on the light socket wiring. Place electrical tape or another nonconductive material between the rotated coupler and the light socket to prevent the potential risk of shorting. We recommend test fitting the body to the chassis and testing on your track for clearance We found that not all chassis are the same thickness. If the body sits to low and rubs on the track you can use a small shim under the front and the back of the body to yield additional clearance between the body and track. We have found that double-sided mounting tape (the kind with a thin layer of foam sandwiched in the middle) works great for this purpose. Align the body with the chassis and the rear mounting holes, use the supplied #2-56 screws to mount the chassis to the body. 6) Attaching the lower blade to the chassis the lower blade is equipped with two magnets used to attached the blade to the metal chassis. Place the lower blade just in front of the rear wheel/truck; allow room for the wheel/truck to turn to navigate curves. Note: if the lower blade rubs on your track, use a piece of sand paper to lightly sand the bottom of the blade until it no longer rubs on the track. Thank you!
