Siena NCAA Tournament History (2nd Appearance) Five-Time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions (1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2014) ALL-TIME NCAA TOURNAMENT RESULTS (0-2) SIENA IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT The Saints are making the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, having last qualified in 1999. 1999 Ernie Shore Field (Winston Salem, N.C.) No. 1 Wake Forest 22, No. 4 Siena 4 No. 3 Virginia Tech 11, No. 4 Siena 5 Jon Palmieri hit a grand slam in the second inning and Wake Forest poured it on in the middle frames to cruise past the Saints 22-4 in the opening round of the 1999 NCAA Championship in the Saints first appearance May 28, 1999. Virgina Tech rallied past Siena 11-5 in the first elimination game of the Regional the following day. Siena s five MAAC Championships tie for the most among current league members (Marist). The Saints lost subsequent NCAA Tournament Play-In series to Atlantic-10 Champion UMass ( 95), Patriot League Champion Bucknell ( 96) and North Atlantic Champion Marist ( 97) after winning its first three MAAC Championships. THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW IN < 140 CHARACTERS @SIENABASEBALL #SIENASAINTS The Saints lost their first 17 games of the season and played their first 34 away from home Siena travelled close to 11,000 miles before playing its first game(s) at Siena Field on April 18 against Iona The Saints played one of the more difficult non-league schedules in the country, playing 17 games against teams in top-120 of the RPI Siena s first six scheduled home games were either moved or cancelled Siena's 36 road games are tied with Sacred Heart, Utah Valley and NYIT for the most nationally amongst all 302 Division I programs Siena swept Niagara to start MAAC play and never looked back, winning 26 of 40 games since the start of conference play Siena won seven of eight MAAC series this season, tops in the conference. Siena has played 46 games away from home this season, tied with Sacred Heart for the most in the country. Siena hit.322 as a team during the MAAC Tournament, with six players hitting.333 or better. Siena played just 11 home games this year, tied for fifth fewest nationally. Five everyday hitters are hitting over.300 with runners in scoring position this season. The Saints won four straight elimination games to win the MAAC Tournament and are now 9-3 in such games in their past four appearances.
