Year 7 Science Bohunt Standards Autumn Term Grade Particle theory and matter Motion, forces and space Suggest methods to separate a complex mixture or Calculate moments on both sides of a pivot.. 8 compound and justify the choices made. Evaluate how technology reduces frictional or drag Evaluate and explain how to classify substances which forces. behave unusually as solids, liquids and gases. Predict changes in an object's speed or direction when Analyse and explain the relationship within solubility forces change. curves. 7 6 5 Use scientific terminology to explain what happens to particles when they change state. Explain factors that affect diffusion. Explain how distillation works as a separation technique. Explain particle movement in relation to energy. Explain how substances dissolve using the particle model. Can predict states of matter from boiling and melting point data. Describe the shape of a change in state graph. Describe subatomic particles e.g. charge, mass, position. Describe a method for separation. Interpret and explain a graph for Hook s law. Use models to explain phases of the moon or lunar / solar eclipses. Rearrange equations to calculate forces / motion. Calculate speed from a distance-time graph. Can explain why speed and / or motion of objects change. Construct and interpret distance - time graphs. Describe and explain the seasons and / or phases of the moon Describe the difference between weight and mass. Calculate some simple resultant forces. Calculate force / speed when given the equation.

4 3 2 Label change of state on graphs / animations / diagrams. Describe differences between elements, compounds and mixtures. Describe some properties of solids, liquids and gases e.g particle arrangement, fixed shape. Name subatomic particles. Draw state of matter diagrams. State examples of physical changes e.g. boiling, evaporating. Name the three states of matter. Identify diagrams for solids, liquids and gases. State three elements. Draw a force diagram for a moving and a stationary object. State the equation for speed. Describe some similarities and difference between planets within the solar system. Recall the planets in our Solar system and describe orbits. Identify balanced and unbalanced forces. Label forces on a diagram. Name some forces. Name some planets / objects in the Solar system. State the names of the seasons.

Year 7 Science Bohunt Standards Spring/Summer Term Grade Cells, body systems and reproduction Chemical reactions and energy 8 7 6 Rearrange magnification equation to calculate cell size and to convert magnification values to micro and nano meters. Describe and explain the function of specialised cells within organs e.g. ciliated epithelial cells within respiratory system. Evaluate benefits of internal vs external fertilisation. Explain function of key organs within organ systems and understand how the organ systems work together e.g. respiratory and circulatory. Predict the consequences of damage to a joint, bone or muscle. Explain the sequence from ovulation to feritilisation to implantation to birth (inc function of placenta and umbilical cord). Calculate magnification. Describe the role of hormones in the menstrual cycle. Can relate the structure of the lungs to efficient gas exchange. Can balance symbol equations. Critically evaluate combustion of fossil fuels and discuss alternatives. Can use patterns to predict products of thermal decomposition reactions / the salt formed in neutralisation / exo or endo from bond strength data. Can balance simple symbol equations with some support. Can use models to explain the conservation of mass theory. Can explain chemical reactions in terms of energetics of bonds breaking (requiring energy) and bond making (releasing energy) and the overall effect. Describe uses of neutralisation reactions. Can explain what thermal decomposition is. Write simple symbol equations for chemical reactions.

5 4 Explain specialised cell features of cells (linking them to function) - especially gametes.. Describe key stages within menstrual cycle i.e shedding of uterus. maturing of eggs, ovulation and possible fertilisation. Explain how antagonistic muscles work Fully label a plant and animal cell and link some of these to function. Describe some features of specialised cells - especially gametes. Use a microscope to observe cells (focussing). Begin to write word equations for chemical reactions and understand the term reactant and product. Can confidently represent data in a graphical form e.g. for temperature difference. Recall formulae and symbols for common elements and compounds. Describe combustion reactions. Can distinguish if a reaction is exothermic or endothermic. Can use ph scale to identify substances as alkali, acidic or neutral. Can clearly define an element, mixture and compound using particle diagrams. 3 Draw and label some organelles within plant and animal cells.
