4. Geology and Reserve In the area rocks of Chhattisgarh Supergroup & intrusives are exposed. These rocks are of Raigarh formation of Raipur Group and Chandrapur Formation of Chandrapur group of Chhattisgarh Supergroup & intrusives which are represented by sand stone, siltstone, limestone, shale and doleritic intrusion etc. However, the generalized stratigraphic sequence of the study area is given in Table below: Age Supergroup Group Formation Lithology QUATERNARY Recent to sub-recent Alluvium Sand, Silt, Clay PROTEROZOIC Chhattisgarh Supergroup Raipur Group Raigarh Formation Sand stone, limestone, Siltstone and Shale Chandrapur Group Sand stone, Siltstone Shale & Conglomarate ARCHAEAN Doleritic intrusion CHHATTISGARH GROUP: A) Raipur Group: In the area, Raigarh formation of Raipur group is exposed in major part of the study area belonging to Proterozoic age. It mainly consists of shale, limestone, and dolomite. These are generally horizontly bedded, unmetamorphosed, thinly laminated intruded by series of dolerite dyke. B) Chandrapur Group: In the area Chandrapur formation of rocks of Proterozoic age are exposed in extreme southern & eastern part of the study area. It mainly consist of Page: 2
sand stone, siltstone, quartzite and shale. These are generally horizontally bedded, affected by marginal faults and N-S trending faulted ridge. Reserve :- Mineable reserve = 900 Tons for first 3 Years Anticipated life of quarry will be: - 10 Years The working of anticipated life of quarry is on preliminary studies. QUARRYING Sand stone is covered with lateritic soil and phyllite and exposed in the old pit; open cast quarrying by manual method is to be preferred. Development and production of Lime Stone would be carried out simultaneously. Quarrying for Lime Stone would be carried out by opencast method of Quarrying and consists of following activities, namely: 1. Removal of overburden, soil & waste rocks to the dump-sites. 2. Quarrying of Lime Stone through manual excavation works. 3. Removal of mined ROM to surface yard for proper breaking, sizing, sorting, and stacking. 4. Preparing grade wise stacks of ore for delivery. 5. Proposed Rate of Production when the Quarry is Fully Developed: It will be 300 T / Year of saleable sand stone [100 m 3 / Year]. 6. Proposed Method of Quarrying The proposed method of Quarrying is by open cast method. 7. Loading, Hauling/ Transport & Miscellaneous operation:- Pit head loading of ore will be done on contract basis, after the material is shifted to surface storage yard manually. The ore is transported by trucks to the buyer's destination, on contract basis. After ore is brought to the Page: 3
storage yard, proper, stacks for sampling are prepared & subsequently ore is delivered. All these operations are manual. 8. Use of Minerals Mineral has vast utilization in cement industries & steel industries (as Fluxing Agent). 9. Quarry Lease Area Area under quarry lease = 3.40 Hect. 10. Project cost The total capital investment will be about Rs.10 Lacs for the proposed project. Page: 4
