Mid Term Theory Previous Syllabus 1. Reflection of light by curved surfaces: Reflection of light, Laws of reflection of light, real and virtual image, spherical mirrors and its types, centre and radius of curvature, principal axis, principal focus, focal length, Principal rays used for making ray diagram using spherical mirror, Images formed by spherical mirrors for different object positions, sign conventions, mirror formula (Derivation not required), magnification and its relation with object distance and image distance. Applications of spherical mirrors. 2. Refraction of light: Introduction to refraction, Laws of refraction, refractive index (absolute and relative), principle of reversibility, refraction through a rectangular glass slab. Refraction through spherical surface, lens(concave and convex), optical centre and focus of lens, Principal rays used for making ray diagram using spherical lens; Image formed by spherical lenses; sign conventions, Lens formula (Derivation not required); Magnification and its relation with object distance and image distance. Power of a lens. Applications of lenses Practical 1. To determine the focal length of Concave mirror by obtaining the image of a distant object. 2. To trace the path of a ray of light passing through a rectangular glass slab for different angles of incidence. Measure the angle of incidence, angle of refraction, angle of emergence and interpret the result. PRE BOARD 1 Theory Previous Syllabus 1. Natural Resources Sources of energy: Different forms of energy, conventional and non-conventional sources of energy: Fossil fuels, solar energy; biogas; wind, water and tidal energy; Nuclear energy. Renewable versus non-renewable sources of Energy. Practical 1. To find the image distance for varying object distances in case of a convex lens and draw corresponding ray diagrams to show the nature of image formed. 2.
