Production, Distribution & Consumption Strand 1 Time, Continuity & Change Standard - 1 Students will understand patterns of change & continuity, relationships between people & events through time, and various interpretations of these relationships. 1 1 Evaluate, interpret & assess the validity of a wide variety of primary & secondary sources. 1 2 List and identify the similar, repeated obstacles and forces that have confronted humans. 1 4 Identify the factors that inhibit change. 1 5 Interpret graphic presentation of quantitative data Strand 2 Connections & Conflict Standard - 2 Students will understand causes & effects of interaction among societies, including trade, systems of international exchange, war & diplomacy 2 1 Analyse the factors that generate a clash of cultures (trade, expansion, religion). 2 2 Evaluate the changing nature of conflict & cooperation between countries & peoples & its lasting impact in national, ethnic, racial, cultural or religious issues. 2 3 Explain the role that culture has played and continues to play in incidents of cooperation and conflict.

Standard 5 Students will understand social systems & structures & how these influence individuals. 5-1 Demonstrate understanding of the varying systems of social structure & gender structure & identify the contrasting roles men & women play 5-2 Explain how sociological circumstances (race, ethnicity, gender, class, etc.) influence an individual's perceptions of and reactions to the world.

Standard 6 Students will understand why societies create & adopt systems of governance & how these systems address human needs, rights & citizen responsibilities. 6 1 Describe varying forms of leadership, institutions & hierarchies & identify their strengths & weaknesses. Strand 5 Production, Distribution & Consumption. Standard 7 - Students will understand fundamental economic principles & ways in which economies are shaped by geographic & human factors. 7 1 Describe the patterns & effects of interactions among major societies & regions, exploring the social, economic, environmental & political connections between places. 7 2 Examine how environmental, economic & social changes led to the emergence of civilizations. 7 3 Explain the effects of technology, economics & demography on people & the environment, (population growth & decline, labour systems, manufacturing, migrations, agriculture, weaponry). 7 4 Recognise the role that trade & economy plays in the rise & fall of empires. 7 5 Identify the major patterns of long distance trade & cultural diffusion this generated. 7 6 Examine the role that geography plays in the development & success/failure of a regions economy (agricultural revolutions). 7 7 Identify the role of new technology as a catalyst for developments in both trade & economy. 7 8 Explain the major economic systems and evaluate their productivity, social welfare, distribution of goods and services, and allocation of resources. 7 9 Assess how physical geography has shaped our economic systems.
