The winner of the match on Friday will take on the winner of Western Kentucky (31-3, 15-1 C-USA) and Arizona (19-13, 9-11 PAC-12) at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday. Jake Hromada, The Voice of Ohio Volleyball, and Mikayla Zernic will have the call of the NCAA Tournament opening rounds. NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY Ohio is will be appearing for the 10th time in the NCAA Championship with an overall record of 5-9 in tournament games. Ohio s last trip to the tournament was in 2013 when it dropped a 3-0 loss in opening round action to Michigan State in Lexington. Ohio is 4-5 all-time in opening round NCAA Tournament matches. The furthest Ohio has advanced in the NCAA Tournament was in 2005 when Ohio advanced to the Sweet 16 with wins over Alabama (3-1) and Ohio State (3-0) in Columbus. They lost to Arizona in five sets in the Sweet 16. VERSUS THE FIELD Their tournament appearance against BYU will mark the first meeting between the two squads. Ohio holds an all-time 3-2 record against WKU. The last time the two squads met, the Bobcats picked up a 3-0 win over the Hilltoppers. The two squads have never met in the NCAA Tournament. That was the only time the two squads have met. ANOTHER 20-WIN SEASON Ohio has won at least 20 matches for the 14th season in a row. TOURNAMENT TITLE After beating Kent State, 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15) to advance the the MAC Volleyball Tournament Championship, the Bobcats came out with a fury beating Northern Illinois (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) in straight sets to capture its ninth tournament title. The Bobcats opened the first set with an 11-5 lead that featured two kills by both Bull and Lake with six assists by Gilleland. They built on the lead throughout the set to finish with a 25-17 win. Salis led Ohio with six kills while Kosiorek and Lake added three and Gilleland had two along with 13 assists. Ashy led all players with nine digs in the opening set. The Bobcats never looked back, taking the set by a 25-11 margin. Kosiorek would lead Ohio with five kills while Salis notched four and Shelby Walker added three. Gilleland had 13 assists for the second consecutive set. Northern Illinois wouldn t go quietly, holding a 13-12 lead in the middle of the third set with four kills from Austin. But Ohio countered with a 13-6 run to close out the third set and the match. Salis led the Bobcats with nine kills in the third set, with Bull and Lake adding three, Kosiorek and Shelby Walker with two and Gilleland with one. ALL-TOURNAMENT Senior setter Abby Gilleland was named Tournament MVP and was named to the All-Tournament team along with senior libero Meredith Ashy. BOBCATS FINISH MAC PLAY 13-3, CLINCH ANOTHER MAC EAST DIVISION TITLE Ohio closed the MAC regular season strong, posting a pair of sweeps over East Division rivals to clinch its 13-straight division title and a double-bye to the league tournament semifinals. The Bobcats rolled to a decisive 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) sweep of Buffalo last Friday (Nov. 13), then swept Akron the following day, 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-19). DE-FENSE Ohio leads the MAC with a.145 opponent hitting percentage, which ranks sixth in the nation, in addition to leading the league with 17.9 digs per set, which ranks third in the nation, and 2.29 blocks per set. The Bobcats rank third in the MAC in total digs (2,018; 33rd in the country) and total blocks (252.0; 112th in the country; 73 solo, 358 assisted). ASHY, GILLELAND NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-MAC Senior setter Abby Gilleland (Bull Valley, Ill.) and senior libero Meredith Ashy (Louisville, Ky.) earned 2015 First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors while Katie Nelson (Regina, Saskatchewan) earned All-MAC Freshman Team Selection for the Ohio volleyball team, as announced by the league office on Thursday (Nov. 19). Gilleland earned First Team All-MAC selection for the thirdstraight year while Ashy notched honors for the third time in her four-year career. Nelson becomes Ohio s eighth player to earn MAC All-Freshman Team selection in the last five seasons. Gilleland leads Ohio and ranks third in the MAC and 52nd nationally with 1,094 assists (10.62 per set; first in the MAC, 54th nationally) and ranks second on the squad with a career-high 314 digs (3.05 per set), third with 25 service aces (0.24 per set), fifth with 46.0 total blocks (four solo, 42 assisted; 0.45 per set) and sixth with 120 kills (1.17 per set). She finished conference play by leading the team with 589 assists (10.91 per set) and ranking second on the squad with 177 digs (3.28 per set), tying for fourth with 11 service aces (0.20 per set) and ranking sixth with 17 total blocks (two solo, 15 assisted; 0.31 per set) and sixth with 80 kills (1.48 per set). Gilleland has posted double-digit assists 29 times this season and double-digit digs 17 times. She has tallied one triple-double and 17 double-doubles. Gilleland became the first player in conference history to sweep the league s weekly awards on Sept. 29. Ashy leads Ohio with 543 digs (5.27 per set; third in the MAC, 14th nationally), which ranks fourth in the MAC and 30th in the nation. In league play, she compiled a team-high 277 digs (5.13 per set). Ashy has achieved double-digit digs 25 times in 2015 -- including at least 20 on 13 occasions. She has been named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week four times. Nelson has piled up 117 kills (1.50 per set) and 63.0 total blocks (13 solo, 50 assisted; 0.81 per set) to tie for third on the team for Ohio. In conference play, she has totaled 57 kills (1.42 per set) and 29.0 total blocks (four solo, 25 assisted; 0.73 per set) to rank second on the team. Nelson has posted five or more total blocks four times and double-digit kills twice in 2015. AMAZING ASHY Earning First Team All-MAC honors again capped a big week for Ashy, as she was also named MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 17). Ashy s award marks her fourth of the 2015 season (Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Oct. 13, Nov. 17) and eighth of her career. Ashy helped Ohio wrap up the 2015 MAC regular season with a pair of sweeps of East Division rivals last weekend at the Convocation Center. She led the squad with 38 digs (6.33 per set). Ashy logged a match-high 15 digs to go along with three service aces and two assists for the Bobcats in the sweep of Buffalo. She followed it up with a strong Senior Night performance in the sweep of Akron, logging a match-high 23 digs for Ohio to go along with a service ace and three assists. Ashy has notched double-digit digs 109 times in her career -- including 20 or more 44 times. Her program-record 2,140 career digs rank 10th in MAC history and fourth among active NCAA Division I players. SETTING UP FOR SUCCESS Gilleland has posted 40 double-doubles in her career. She has recorded double-digit assists 119 times in her career while posting double-digit digs 45 times in her career. Gilleland s 4,649 assists rank third in program history in the rally scoring era, and she joins Briana Adamovsky (2001-04; 4,767) and Michele Jantsch (4,761; 2007-10) as the only players in program history to eclipse the 4,000 career assists total. A two-time AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, MAC Player of the Year and MAC Setter of the Year, she ranks seventh among active NCAA Division I players in career assists. Senior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Walker and redshirt sophomore middle blocker Ali Lake (Liberty Township, Ohio) have also contributed to the Bobcats blocking success. Lake is enjoying a career season, ranking second on the squad with 71.0 total blocks (10 solo, 61 assisted; 0.72 per set). She s posted five or more total blocks four times in 2015. Lake also ranks fifth on the team with 168 kills (1.70 per set). In conference play, Lake ranked fifth on the team with 97 kills (1.80 per set) and third with 28 total blocks (five solo, 23 assisted; 0.52 per set). Walker ranks second on the team with a career-high 252 kills (2.47 per set) and tied for third with 63.0 total blocks (18 solo, 45 assisted; 0.62 per set). In conference play, Walker compiled 131 kills (2.47 per set) to rank second on the squad and 22.0 total blocks (eight solo, 18 assisted; 0.49 per set) to rank fourth. KILL BY KOSIOREK Sophomore outside hitter Jaime Kosiorek (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), a 2014 All-MAC Freshman Team selection, leads the Bobcats with career-high 304 kills (2.98 per set) as well as 37 service aces (0.36 per set). She is fifth on the team with a career-high 225 digs (2.21 per set). She s also chipped in 35.0 total blocks (four solo, 31 assisted; 0.34 per set) and 13 assists (0.13 per set). Kosiorek has finished with double-digit kills 16 times this season. She s achieved the feat 30 times in her career. Kosiorek has also posted double-digit digs 10 times this season and has achieved nine double-doubles. In conference play, Kosiorek led Ohio with 140 kills (2.64 per set) and 23 service aces (0.43 per set) while ranking fifth with 105 digs (1.98 per set). SALIS COMING ON STRONG Junior outside hitter/libero Mallory Salis (Oak Lawn, Ill.), who is serving as team co-captain alongside Gilleland, ranks fourth on the team with 181 kills (1.83 per set), is second on the squad with 30 service aces (0.30 per set) and also ranks third on the team with 277 digs (2.80 per set) in 2015. Salis has notched six double-doubles this season and eight in her career. She has recorded double-digit kills eight times this season and 11 times in her career and posted double-digit digs 16 times this season and 32 times in her career. In conference play, Salis ranked third on the team with 116 kills (2.15 per set), second with 19 service aces (0.35 per set) and third with 160 digs (2.96 per set). SHE S A FRESHMAN Freshman libero Erica Walker (Wheaton, Ill.) ranks fourth on the squad with 260 digs (2.30 per set). She has tallied doubledigit digs seven times in her rookie campaign. The Bobcats garnered ten first-place votes to earn the distinction of being the favorite to win the MAC East Division. Ohio received ten votes to win the regular season title. The Green & White, who host the MAC Championship for the second consecutive season at the Convocation Center by virtue of winning the 2014 regular season championship, earned eight votes in favor of winning the event. PRESEASON ALL-MAC EAST DIVISION SELECTIONS The Cats placed three student-athletes on the 2015 Preseason All-MAC East Division Team -- Ashy, Bull and Gilleland. Gilleland -- the two-time reigning MAC Player of the Year -- joined Laura Hageman (2002, 03) and Ellen Herman (2008, 09) as the third Bobcat in program history to win two consecutive conference player of the year awards. Gilleland is also the only player in program history to garner back-to-back MAC Setter of the Year awards. She earned her second straight AVCA Honorable Mention All-America nod. Gilleland captains Ohio for a second straight season. She led the Bobcats with 1,149 assists (10.64 per set) and her.332 hitting percentage ranked as the eighth-best attack percentage in a single season in program history. Ashy has the distinction of being the first Bobcat in program history to earn MAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. She led the MAC in digs per set (4.89) in 2014 and compiled 528 total digs. Bull was named First Team All-MAC for the second straight year after tying her career high in total blocks with 125 (1.16 per set) in 2014. Her.332 attack percentage led Ohio (fourth in MAC; tied seventh-best in a single season in program history), and she tallied 201 kills (1.86 per set) to rank third on the team. THE DEANE OF OHIO VOLLEYBALL Deane Webb returns for his second year as Ohio s head coach. The 12th head coach in program history guided the Bobcats to a 23-6 overall record and a perfect 16-0 MAC record in his first year on the Bobcat bench in 2014.
