Chapter 2 Sobolev Spaces Sobolev spaces turn out often to be the proper setting in which to apply ideas of functional analysis to get information concerning partial differential equations. Here, we collect a few basic results about Sobolev spaces. A general reference to this topic is Adams [1], Gilbarg- Trudinger [29], or Evans [26]. 2.1 Hölder spaces Assume R n is open and 0 < γ 1.
