Main tasks of the Institute include: geological mapping of the country assessment of mineral potential of Poland and evaluation of mineral resources assessment of mineral and petroleum potential and resources of Poland geological and hydrogeological data storage, processing and dissemination developing research programmes, geological expertise and consulting services, preparation of information packets for exploration and mining concessions evaluation and monitoring of quantity and quality of groundwater resources assessment of natural environment and environmental hazards preparation of waste management and environmental protection plans design and supervision of rehabilitation works laboratory services: chemical, geochemical, mineralogical and petrographical analyses international cooperation in all areas of geological sciences
