In his paper, by using he orhogonaliy ype as defined in he umbral calculus, we derive explici formula for several well nown polynomials as a linear combinaion of he Aposol- Euler polynomials. 1. Inroducion Le Π n be he se of all polynomials in a single variable x over he complex field C of degree a mos n. Clearly, Π n is a (n+1-dimensional vecor space over C. Define H = f( = (1.1 a! a C. 0 o be he algebra of formal power series in a single variable. As is nown, L p(x denoes he acion of a linear funcional L H on a polynomial p(x and we remind ha he vecor space on Π n are defined by cl+c L p(x = c L p(x +c L p(x, for any c,c C and L,L H (see [11, 1, 16, 17]. The formal power series in variable define a linear funcional on Π n by seing (1. By (1.1 and (1., we have (1.3 f( x n = a n, for all n 0, (see [11, 1, 16, 17]. x n = δ n,, for all n, 0, (see [11, 1, 16, 17], where δ n, is he Kronecer s symbol. Le f L ( = 0 L x! wih L H. From (1.3, we have f L ( x n = L x n. So, he map L f L ( is a vecor space isomorphic from Π n ono H. Henceforh, H is hough of as se of boh formal power series and linear funcionals. We call H he umbral algebra. The umbral calculus is he sudy of umbral algebra. Le f( H. The smalles ineger for which he coefficien of does no vanish is called he order of f( and is denoed by O(f( (see [11, 1, 16, 17]. If O(f( = 1, O(f( = 0, hen f( is called a dela, an inverable series, respecively. For given wo power series f(,g( H such ha O(f( = 1 and O(g( = 0, here exiss a unique sequence S n (x of polynomials wih g((f( S n (x = δ n, (hiscondiionsomeimesiscalledorhogonaliy ypeforalln, 0. The sequence S n (x is called he Sheffer sequence for (g(,f( which is denoed by S n (x (g(,f( (see [11, 1, 16, 17]. 010 Mahemaics Subjec Classificaion. 05A40. Key words and phrases. TAEKYUN KIM, TOUFIK MANSOUR, SEOG-HOON RIM, AND SANG-HUN LEE (1.4 and (1.5 For f( H and p(x Π, we have (see [11, 1, 16, 17]. From (1.5, we derive (1.6 e y p(x = p(y, f(g( p(x = f( g(p(x, f( = f( x!, p(x = p(x x!, 0 0 p(x = p ( (0, 1 p ( (x = p ( (0, where p ( (0 denoes he -h derivaive of p(x respec o x a x = 0. Le S n (x (g(,f(. Then we have (1.7 1 g( f( ey f( = 0 S (y!, for all y C, where f( is he composiional inverse of f( (see [11, 1, 13, 15, 16, 17]. For λ C wih λ 1, he Aposol-Euler polynomials (see [10, 14, 18, 19] are defined by he generaing funcion o be (1.8 λe +1 ex = 0 E (x λ!. In paricular, x = 0, E n (0 λ = E n (λ is called he n-h Aposol-Euler number. From (1.8, we can derive (1.9 E n (x λ = E n (λx. By (1.9, we have d dx E n(x λ = ne n 1 (x λ. Also, from (1.8 we have (1.10 =0 λe +1 = ee(λ = E n (λ n wih he usual convenion abou replacing E n (λ by E n (λ. By (1.10, we ge = e E(λ (λe +1 = λe (E(λ+1 +e E(λ = (λ(e(λ +1 n +E n (λ n. Thus, by comparing he coefficiens of he boh sides, we have (1.11 λ(e(λ +1 n +E n (λ = δ n,0. As is well nown, Bernoulli polynomial (see [1,, 8, 9] is also defined by he generaing funcion o be (1.1 e 1 ex = 0 B (x!. In he special case, x = 0, B n (0 = B n is called he n-h Bernoulli number. By (1.1, we ge (1.13 B n (x = B n x. =0
APOSTOL-EULER POLYNOMIALS ARISING FROM UMBRAL CALCULUS 3 From (1.1, we noe ha (1.14 e 1 = eb = B n n wih he usual convenion abou replacing B n by B n. By (1.13 and (1.14, we ge which implies (1.15 = e B (e 1 = e (B+1 e B = ((B +1 n B n n, Euler polynomials (see [1, 3, 8, 17] are defined by (1.16 B n (1 B n = (B +1 n B n = δ n,1, B 0 = 1. e +1 ex = 0 E (x!. In he special case, x = 0, E n (0 = E n is called he n-h Euler number. By (1.16, we ge (1.17 e +1 = ee = E n n wih he usual convenion abou replacing E n by E n. By (1.16 and (1.17, we ge which implies (1.18 = e E (e +1 = e (E+1 +e E = ((E +1 n +E n n, E n (1+E n = (E +1 n +E n = δ n,0. For λ C wih λ 1, he Frobenius-Euler (see [1, 6, 7, 4, 5] polynomials are defined by (1.19 1+λ e +λ ex = F (x λ!. 0 In he special case, x = 0, F n (0 λ = F n ( λ is called he n-h Frobenius-Euler number (see [7]. By (1.19, we ge (1.0 1+λ e +λ = ef = F n ( λ n wih he usual convenion abou replacing F n ( λ by F n ( λ (see [7]. By (1.19 and (1.0, we ge which implies (1.1 1+λ = e F( λ (e +λ = e (F( λ+1 +λe F( λ = ((F( λ+1 n +λf n ( λ n, λf n ( λ+f n (1 λ = λf n ( λ+(f( λ+1 n = (1+λδ n,0. In he nes secion we presen our main heorem and is applicaions. More precisely, by using he orhogonaliy ype, we wrie any polynomial in Π n as a linear combinaion of he Aposol-Euler polynomials. Several applicaions relaed o Bernoulli, Euler and Frobenius-Euler polynomials are derived.

Thus, for p(x Π n, here exis consans c 0,c 1,...,c n such ha p(x = n =0 c E (x λ. Since E n (x λ ((1+λe /, (see (1.7 and (1.8, we have 1+λe E n (x λ = δ n,, which gives 1+λe p(x = l=0 Hence, we can sae he following resul. 1+λe c l E l (x λ = c l l!δ l, =!c. Theorem.1. For all p(x Π n, here exis consansc 0,c 1,...,c n suchha p(x = n =0 c E (x λ, where c = 1! (1+λe p(x. Now, we presen several applicaions for our heorem. As a firs applicaion, le us ae p(x = x n wih n 0. By Theorem.1, we have x n = n =0 c E (x λ, where which implies he following ideniy. Corollary.. For all n 0, c = 1! For anoher applicaion, le p(x = F n (x λ, hen by Theorem.1 we have ha F n (x λ = n =0 c E (x λ, where c = 1! (1+λe F n (x λ = 1 1+λe F n (x λ = 1 (F n ( λ+λf n (1 λ. which, by (1.1, implies he following ideniy. Corollary.5. For all n 1, F n (x λ = 1+λ E n (x λ+ 1 λ Again, le p(x = y n (x = n =0 n 1 =0 F n ( λe (x λ. (n+! x (n!! be he n-h Bessel polynomial (which is he soluion of he following differenial equaion x f (x+(x+1f +n(n+1f = 0, where f (x denoes he derivaive of f(x, see [16, 17]. Then by Theorem.1, we can wrie y n (x = n =0 c E (x λ, where c = 1! = 1 = 1 l=0 l= l= =! ( n +1 (n+l! (n l!l! l 1+λe x l ( (n+l! l (n l!l! l 1+λe x l ( (n+l! l (n l!l! l (δ n,0 +λ ( n+ +λ ( ( (! l n n+l l+1 l l l= which implies he following ideniy. Corollary.6. For all n 1, ( (! n n+ y n (x = +1 E (x λ+λ =0 =0 l=! l+1 ( l ( ( n n+l l l E (x λ. We end by noing ha if we subsiue λ = 0 in any of our corollaries, hen we ge he well nown value of he polynomial p(x. For insance, by seing λ = 0, he las corollary gives ha y n (x = n =0 (n+! (n!! x as expeced.
