Please note that, for this manual, "Nintendo 3DS" refers to both Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL. Please read this manual carefully before using the software. Please also read your operations manual for more details and tips to help you enjoy your playing experience. IMPORTANT Before using this software, read all content within the Health and Safety Information application on the HOME Menu. To access this application, tap the icon on the HOME Menu, then tap Open and read the contents of each section carefully. When you are finished, press to return to the HOME Menu. You should also thoroughly read your operations manual, including the "Health and Safety Information" section, before using this software. CAUTION - STYLUS USE To avoid fatigue and discomfort when using the stylus, do not grip it tightly or press it hard against the screen. Keep your fingers, hand, wrist and arm relaxed. Long, steady, gentle strokes work just as well as many short, hard strokes.

2 About Wireless Connection Multiplayer (Local Play) This software supports multiplayer games via wireless communication. Each player must have a copy of the software. You Will Need: One Nintendo 3DS system per player One copy of the software per player Connection Procedures For more instructions, please refer to the "Multiplayer" section (pg. 14). Exchanging Guild Cards via StreetPass This software uses StreetPass (local wireless communication) to automatically send and receive Guild Cards. (pg. 10) To communicate using this feature, all players must activate StreetPass for this software. Activating StreetPass You can activate StreetPass at the Felyne Courier (pg. 12) Deactivating StreetPass To deactivate StreetPass, open System Settings, select Data Management, and then select StreetPass Management. Tap the

icon for this software title, then select Deactivate StreetPass. You can disable StreetPass functionality via Parental Controls. Refer to your operations manual for information on how to set up Parental Controls.

5 Circle Pad Pro / Language About the Circle Pad Pro This title supports the Nintendo 3DS accessory, Circle Pad Pro. See the Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro Operations Manual for more d e t a i l s a b o u t h o w t o u s e t h i s accessory. T h e C i r c l e P a d P r o a c c e s s o r y enters standby mode (to conserve battery power) if it has not been used for more than five minutes. Try pressing the ZL or ZR Buttons to resume accessory functions. If you are unable to control the Right Circle Pad properly... Right Circle Pad If the system behaves as though the Right Circle Pad is being used even when you aren't touching it, or if the controls don't seem to operate correctly, you will need to calibrate the Right Circle Pad by following the procedure below. Calibration Procedure

1. From the Main Menu's (pg. 7) Options screen, s e l e c t G a m e S e t t i n g s a n d touch "Calibrate Circle Pad Pro". 2. F o l l o w t h e instructions on t h e s c r e e n t o c a l i b r a t e t h e Right Circle Pad. To calibrate the Circle Pad on the Nintendo 3DS system, use the calibration procedure in System Settings on the HOME Menu. For details, see your operations manual. Language Settings When you first start the game, the language will be set to the same language as the Nintendo 3DS system.

Changing Language Settings If you want to change the language in the game, you can do so through the Main Menu. (pg. 7) You can choose between English, French, Spanish, German and Italian by going to "Options" in the Main M e n u, a n d t h e n s e l e c t i n g "Language Settings". The game will t h e n r e s t a r t i n t h e l a n g u a g e selected. If the Nintendo 3DS is set to a language other than English, F r e n c h, S p a n i s h, G e r m a n o r Italian, when first starting the g a m e, t h e l a n g u a g e w i l l automatically be set to English. Please set the Nintendo 3DS's language by going to the Home M e n u a n d s e l e c t i n g S y s t e m Settings. For more information, please refer to your Nintendo 3DS Operations Manual.

6 Quest Screen ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ ❺ ❼ ❽ ❾ ❻ 1 0 1Health Gauge When the green portion of the H e a l t h G a u g e c o m p l e t e l y disappears, the hunter will faint. After taking damage, a part of the h e a l t h g a u g e w i l l t u r n r e d, representing health that can be recovered over time. 2Stamina Gauge Certain actions will deplete the Stamina Gauge. A hunter's stamina recovers as time passes, but the maximum amount of stamina a hunter can have also decreases over time. 3Time Limit A clock that represents the time remaining in a Quest.

4Weapon Status This icon will vary depending on the weapon equipped. Blade Displays the sharpness of your weapon. The color of this icon c h a n g e s a c c o r d i n g t o t h e sharpness (attack power) of the weapon, which decreases the more you use it. Ammo Displays the remaining amount of ammo in the Bowgun or Gunlance. If you have spare ammo, you can reload your weapon. (pg. 33, 34) Displays the remaining number of applications for the coating you have currently equipped on your Bow. (pg. 35) 5Oxygen Gauge (pg. 18) Coating

6Hunter name and icon You and your companions' names, weapons, and current health are displayed here. When you have been spotted by a large monster, an Eye icon will be displayed b e s i d e y o u r h u n t e r ' s n a m e. Depending on your situation, the Eye icon's color will change. Warning Spotted 7Monster 8Map Displays the hunter's current location. 9Other players' hunters / Cha-Cha / Kayamba (pg. 9) 10Item Window Displays the current item. Hold to select another item. The layout of the top screen will change depending on how the Touch Screen is customized. (pg. 20) Gauges, such as the Health Gauge, can only be displayed on e i t h e r t h e t o p s c r e e n o r t h e bottom screen, but not both.

7 Main Menu / Saving Main Menu New Game Create a new hunter and start the game from the beginning. Continue Select a save data and continue your game. Options Change the game's settings. DLC C o n n e c t t o t h e I n t e r n e t t o download new Quests, etc. (pg. 36, 37)

M o n s t e r H u n t e r 3 U l t i m a t e ' s downloadable content (DLC) is free, o r i g i n a l c o n t e n t t h a t c a n b e accessed by connecting to the Internet via in-game menus. This content is completely free of charge, and is similar to what other titles offer as Additional Content, Extra Contents or Extras. Save data You can create up to 3 hunters on one game card. When you create a hunter, they will be saved in the same save data slot every time. When ending the game, be sure to save your in-game progress by sleeping in your bed in either Moga Village or Port Tanzia. You can delete all of your MH3U save data, including any data on your the SD card, by pressing and holding + + for 3 seconds on the Options screen.

Data can be lost due to user a c t i o n, s u c h a s r e p e a t e d l y powering off and on the system or removing the Game Card or SD Card while saving. Data loss may also be caused by poor connectivity, due to dirt or dust in the system's ports. Please be aware that in these cases data cannot be restored.

8 Moga Village ❶ ❷ ❸ ❹ ❺ ❻ ❼ ❽ 1Quest Counter As you progress in the story, you'll be able to initiate Quests from here. 2Departure Gate Initiate a Quest and then go here to depart. 3Market Purchase items here. 4Neko (Means "Cat") A brave Felyne that sails between Moga Village and Port Tanzia. Talk to him if you want to travel to either location. 5Your House Manage items, change equipment, and save your game here. 6Armory Purchase and upgrade equipment here.

7Moga Woods Travel to Moga Woods by going here. 8Farm Grow and cultivate useful items here. Important Conversations Characters with important information will have a yellow speech bubble over their heads. If you spot them, be sure to strike up a conversation.

9 Cha-Cha and Kayamba

As you progress through the game, you'll meet Cha-Cha and Kayamba. T h e s e S h a k a l a k a k i d s c a n accompany you on Quests and help you hunt monsters through various D a n c e s. E q u i p p i n g t h e m w i t h different masks will unlock special techniques. Cha-Cha / Kayamba Menu Talk to Cha-Cha or Kayamba to invite them out on Quests, change t h e i r D a n c e s a n d M a s k s, a n d r e c e i v e i t e m s f r o m t h e m t h a t they've picked up during Quests.

Cha-Cha / Kayamba's Status During a Quest, an icon is displayed beside Cha-Cha and Kayamba's name. Cha-Cha or Kayamba is a c t i v e l y c a r v i n g a n d gathering. Cha-Cha or Kayamba is h i d i n g a n d r e c o v e r i n g health. Cha-Cha or Kayamba has fainted. Recovery from this status takes some time. Power of the Mask There are Masks that send out signals, as well as those that allow you to select special abilities from the Item Window. For Cha-Cha's signal, press while i n t h e G a m e M e n u, a n d f o r Kayamba's press.

10 About the Game Menu

Press Menu. Use t h e n p r e s s selection. to display the Game to select an item, and t o c o n f i r m t h e Hunter Tab Item Pouch Displays a list of the items you are carrying. When you are using a longranged weapon, the Item Pouch will gain an additional "Gunner's P o u c h " f o r y o u r a m m o a n d coatings. Combine Create new items by combining two items together. Combo List Select an item from the Combo List to create it. Hunter's Notes Read up on the game's controls and lingo. Gestures Perform a special gesture with your hunter. Quit Game Quit the current game and go back to the title screen.

Info Tab Quest Info Check details about the current Quest. Status Check details about the hunter you're currently using. Equipment Check details about your current weapon and armor. Guild Card Edit and send your Guild Card to other players, or view a list of Guild Cards you've received. Moga Village Check details about Moga Village. Options Change various game settings here. What is a Guild Card? The Guild Card contains your player name, personal greeting and title, as well as information about your hunter. From the Game Menu, you can edit, view, and send your Guild Card to other players. To save Guild Cards from other players, 18 blocks of free space is required on your SD card. Please do not remove the SD card during gameplay. You can save up to 98 Guild Cards.

Information-Sharing Precautions This software allows you to create a player name and greeting, and send it to players via local wireless. Please note the following when using this software: W h e n u s i n g w i r e l e s s communication, the player name and personalized greeting can be seen by many other people. To protect your privacy, do not give out personal information such as last name, phone number, birth date, age, school, e-mail, or home address when communicating with others.

11 Touch Screen (Village/Port) While in the Village or Port, several panels will be displayed on the Touch Screen. Touch one of the panels to use that function, or to display information. (For information about the Touch Screen while on a Quest or in the Game Menu, please refer to pages 19 and 20.) View details about players by touching their names. You can also move to a player's Multi Port directly. (pg. 14) Map Displays a map of the area the player is currently in. Hunters for Hire Check the Hunters for Hire that are stationed in the Port. (pg. 13) This is only displayed when you're in Moga Village or a Solo Port. Player List Displays info about the players c u r r e n t l y o n l i n e. T h i s i s o n l y displayed when you are in a Multi Port. Village Menu Moga Village Check details on Moga Village. Moga Forecast Check the forecast for Moga Woods over the next 3 days. Port Menu Items Open the Item Pouch. You may also combine items here. Guild Cards Edit and send your Guild Card. Gestures Have your hunter perform various gestures.

The Gong P r e s s i n f r o n t o f t h e Q u e s t Counter to sound the gong. Using this will let hunters nearby know you're looking for Quest partners. This can only be used in a Multi Port. When Hunter Search is on, nearby hunters will receive a special signal. Pressing in front of the Quest Counter one more time will stop the alert.

Hunters for Hire When you receive Guild Cards from other players, they'll become a part of your group of Hunters for Hire who'll visit your Solo Port's Tavern from time to time. Pay them a small fee for their time, and they'll go on a Quest to retrieve items for you. Hunters for Hire will return to the Solo Port's Tavern once you've finished 2 Quests yourself. Talk with them to find out how they fared on their Quest. As you progress in the game, talk to the Guildmaster in a Solo Port Tavern to change your Hunters for Hire settings.

S o l o a n d L o c a l M u l t i P o r t Features Solo Port Features Meet with Hunters for Hire. Take Cha-Cha and Kayamba along with you on Quests. Multi Port Features T a k e o n Q u e s t s w i t h o t h e r players. W h e n t h e r e a r e o n l y 1 o r 2 players, you can take either Cha- Cha or Kayamba with you on a Quest. Be sure to adjust their settings first before entering a Multi Port. (pg. 9) Note: There are no differences in t h e Q u e s t s y o u m a y i n i t i a t e between the two Ports.

14 Multiplayer In Port Tanzia, you can take on Quests that are different from those in Moga Village, and if you can use local wireless, you can play with your friends. Select the Port of the player you wish to play with. Then select the area you wish to travel to. If your friend does not show up in your Friend Search, check to see if they've created a Multi Port session and search again. Each Multi Port can hold up to 4 players at once. 15 Joining a Quest Joining a Quest P l e a s e f o l l o w t h e b a s i c f l o w outlined below when playing with others. Initiating a Quest Talk to the Quest Receptionist and i n i t i a t e a Q u e s t b y p a y i n g a contract fee. Joining a Quest Check the Quest Board, and select the Quest you wish to join. The player who initiated the Quest does not need to do this step.

Departure Preparations Stand in front of the departure gate and press to signal that you are ready to embark on the Quest. Embarking on a Quest Once all of the players have signaled that they are ready to embark on the Quest, the player who initiated the Quest will need to confirm that the hunting party is ready to depart. Then, it's off you go! Regarding Urgent Quests, only the person who initiated it will officially clear it, as indicated by the "Cleared" mark. Once a quest has been initiated, you cannot move to another area. Please cancel the Quest if you wish to move to another area.

16 About Quests Quest Rules Quests can have one of several o b j e c t i v e s, s u c h a s h u n t i n g a specific monster in a Hunting Quest, or delivering certain items in a Gathering Quest. Check what the clear conditions for each Quest are before taking them on.

Quest Clear/Fail Conditions Successfully complete a Quest's objective to clear it. In addition to receiving reward money and items, the player who initiated the Quest will also receive double the amount of money used to initiate the Quest. Fainting a number of times until your reward money hits zero, or f a i l i n g t o c o m p l e t e a Q u e s t ' s objective within the time limit will cause you to fail that Quest. Hunting Environment & Free Hunt If there is a "DANGER" icon on the Quest you initiated, there is a chance that a monster not listed in t h e d e s c r i p t i o n w i l l a p p e a r. Successfully hunt that monster during the Quest, and you will receive a Free Hunt bonus. Item Gathering / Carving

Gathering and carving are two ways to obtain items during your hunt that can help out your hunter. Be aware that Gathering points can sometimes change locations. A n i c o n w i l l a p p e a r o v e r y o u r hunter's head when you find a spot where you can gather items. Press to start gathering when you find such a spot. A Button Gather items or carve a monster Certain gathering spots require the use of a specific item, such as a Pick Axe or Bug Net.

17 About Large Monsters

When hunting large monsters, pay attention to the following points. Stamina When a monster becomes tired, their movement will slow down and they will sometimes fail in their attacks. Pinning Attacks When a monster has you pinned, a gauge will appear at the bottom of the screen. Rapidly slide or repeatedly press any button to escape quickly, or you will continue to take damage. You can also use a Dung Bomb to escape. Capturing Monsters A weakened monster is easy prey f o r c a p t u r e. U s e a t r a p o n a monster close to death, and then quickly hit them with a Tranq Bomb or similar item. If the monster has been sufficiently weakened, they will be successfully captured. C e r t a i n m o n s t e r s c a n n o t b e captured.

18 Underwater Hunting Swimming Moving underwater is essentially the same as on dry land. The only difference is that you can also move up and down in the water. Slide up to swim away from you, and slide down to swim towards you. It's important to use these controls in conjunction with the camera controls to swim where you want.

Oxygen Gauge While underwater, your Oxygen Gauge will slowly deplete. Once it is depleted your Health Gauge will slowly deplete, so make sure to rise to the surface or find Air Supply Points in the water to replenish your oxygen supply. Surfacing and Diving Surfacing Press and hold on Diving Press and hold down on Evading while sliding up while sliding These actions will deplete your stamina gauge.

19 Touch Screen (Quest)

You can control certain things via panels on the Touch Screen during a Quest. There are many useful panels, so customize your panel layout and give them a try. Customizable Panels Camera Controls Adjust the camera, similar to using. Item Pouch Use this panel to use items. Target Cam Focus the camera on a large monster in the same area as you. Special Attacks Default: Kick During cutscenes: Skip cutscene With weapon drawn: Special Attack There are many more panels available!

Thunderblight (S, L) You are more likely to become Stunned w h e n h i t b y a n attack. You can speed up the removal of these statuses by performing evasive maneuvers over and over. You can also guard against them by equipping elemental armor with high resistance to them. (pg. 23)

Pressing the buttons rapidly will help you break out of this state. Felvine Felynes and Melynx w i l l t a r g e t y o u. Disappears after a time. Bloodsucking Health will slowly deplete due to the Giggi latched onto you. Use an evade to get them off.

Snowman/Muddy Y o u r m o v e m e n t s become slower and m o r e l i m i t e d. Rapidly pressing any button will help you to escape faster. Paralysis Your body will go numb and you'll be unable to move. You can be knocked out of Paralysis, but it will also disappear after a time. Sleep You will slowly fall asleep but an attack will snap you wide awake. Stench You will be unable to use items for a period of time. Slimeblight A bright slime will stick to your body, a n d e v e n t u a l l y d e t o n a t e a f t e r a period of time. You c a n r e m o v e t h i s s l i m e b y e v a d i n g until it falls off.

24 Skills and Attack Properties Skills and Skill Tree Every piece of armor has points attributed to certain Skills. If the equipped armor parts' Skill points are added up and reach a certain point, the Skill will be activated. C o o r d i n a t e y o u r a r m o r s e t s t o activate various skills. Active Skills are different with each Skill Tree. By adding a lot of points to a Skill, it's possible to get an improved version of it. Accumulate minus Skill points and you'll activate a Minus Skill. Attack Properties Close range attacks either slash or smash monsters. They each have their own characteristics, and it's an i m p o r t a n t e l e m e n t o f h u n t i n g monsters. Slash (SL) Depending on the monster, their tails can be severed. Smash (SM) Aim for a monster's head to stun them.

Light Bowgun A bowgun that is lightweight and doesn't obstruct the gunner. This weapon can fire off certain types of ammo in rapid fashion. After firing, press to sidestep out of harm's way. Heavy Bowgun This bowgun's heavy weight doesn't allow for much maneuverability, but it packs a punch. Pressing + will go into Siege Mode. This allows the gunner to load more ammo than usual, and you can rapidly fire ammo from a crouching position. However, they will not be able to move in this state. Remove Limiter By changing parts on a Bowgun of Rarity 6 or above, you can unlock new features for your weapon. Light Bowgun All ammo can be loaded, but rapid fire feature will be lost. Heavy Bowgun Firepower will be upgraded greatly, but you will lose the ability to fire from a crouch.

A Button + X Button R Button A Button Draw (Let go of to loose the bow) Arc Shot Equip Coating Aim Shot Melee Strike (SL) You can evade by pressing or while drawing the bow. Changing Coatings Hold to open the Item window, and then press or to change coatings. Drawing the Bow Drawing the Bow for a period of time will increase an arrow's power. Depending on how long you draw the Bow, the amount of damage an arrow does changes. How long you can draw a Bow also depends on the type of Bow. C h a r g i n g t h e B o w d e p l e t e s stamina. Arc Shot Attack a monster at a distance with a

special delayed attack. The Arc Shot drains a monster's stamina, and can stun them as well. Different bows have different types of arc shots and power. Coating types and effects Power Coating Increases an arrow's power. Poison Coating Coats the arrow with a poison agent. Para Coating Coats the arrow with a paralyzing agent. Sleep Coating Coats the arrow with a sleep agent. There are other types of coatings in the game.

The top screen will display Quest details, and the bottom screen will display a list of Quests that you can download. 1 Place the cursor over the Quest y o u w i s h t o d o w n l o a d, t h e n c h e c k i t o f f. Q u e s t s a l r e a d y downloaded will be displayed in gray. 2 Press to go to the confirmation screen. To begin downloading the Quests you've selected, select "Yes". When downloading, please do not turn the system off. If you cannot download the content, please read the error message, and check your Internet settings and s u r r o u n d i n g s. I f y o u a r e downloading a number of Quests at once, it may take some time to download them all.

Downloaded Quests can be initiated by going to Port Tanzia's Tavern area and selecting either "Event Quest" or "Challenge Quest". You can also participate in Quests you have not downloaded if another player initiates them. Screens are of a title still in development. Quest names shown here may differ from the final version.
