Tallahassee Twister Start Exercise No Image During the exercise it will be important to remember and comply with the following statements: It is important NOT to jump ahead in the exercise scenario. In other words don t focus on what might happen, focus on the Common Operating Picture that is presented during the exercise to make informed decisions. In any exercise a number of assumptions and artificialities may be necessary to complete play in the time allotted. During this exercise, the following apply: 1. The scenario is plausible, and events occur as they are presented. 2. There is no hidden agenda, nor any trick questions. Exercise Basics: 1. This exercise contains a total of 11 scenario and inject pages. 2. The exercise is self-paced and it should take your team appropriately 45 minutes to complete. However, based on the time your team spends on each scenario and inject your team may complete the exercise in under 45 minutes or it may take much longer than 45 minutes for your team to complete the exercise. Thoroughly review all scenarios and injects as they are presented during the exercise. Identify one individual to be responsible for inputting responses to the exercise injects. Tallahassee Twister Scenario # 001 Image of Severe Thunderstorm Warning It is early February and the severe weather associated with a line of thunderstorms moving through the area prompts the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for counties throughout Florida's Big Bend Region at 1:15AM. NOAA Weather Radios throughout the area sound their alarm due to the Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Tallahassee Twister Inject # 003 Image of NOAA Radio As the line of thunderstorms continues to intensify as it moves through the region, the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Watch for counties throughout the Big Bend Region. Tornado Watch Issued 3:00AM Expires 12:00PM Access a larger version of the Tornado Watch Area map. Access a narrative report regarding the Tornado Watch. Once again NOAA Weather Radios throughout the area sound their alarm warning residents that the area is now under a Tornado Watch. Briefly describe what a Tornado Watch means. Tallahassee Twister Scenario # 004 No Image As city employees begin to arrive for work they are met with heavy rains and winds normally associated with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Soon the heavy rain turns into a severe thunderstorm with golf ball size hail. Tallahassee Twister Scenario # 005 Image of At 9:11AM, meteorologists at the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service identify a thunderstorm on their Doppler weather radar capable of producing a tornado. They immediately issue a Tornado Warning. For the third time this morning NOAA Weather Radio alarms are sounding off. This time the alarm is due to a portion of Leon County being placed under a Tornado Warning. Access a larger version of the Radar Image. Access a narrative report regarding the Tornado Waring.
