ADDRESSING A Look at Creating & Updating Point Files A HOW TO LOOK AT GIS ADDRESSING Creating points using LAT/LONG fields from WINGAP Creating addressing location (GPS/Latitude & Longitude) points using GIS software (ESRI ArcMap) Updating/editing point shape files 1

Realprop general info screen Latitude and Longitude Fields must be populated to create points using this method Lat/Long data can be collected using a GPS unit, google maps, etc. Data can be exported for use in WINGAP GIS 2017 CONFERENCE Dataset of latitude and longitude fields from WINGAP Field names are LAT and LON Data can be exported to excel OR a QUERY LAYER can be used to generate a point file in GIS 2

To export to excel select the box in the top right corner of the results, right click, select Copy with Headers, open a blank excel document, right click paste. Once in excel, save file and add to ArcMap project 1. 2. 3. 3

1. 2. 3. 4. 1. Event Layer should be exported to a shapefile for editing 2. 4

Query Layer Method Establish DB Connection and add query Query converts LAT/LONG character fields to numeric 3. 1. 2. 5

1. Event Layer should be exported to a shapefile for editing 2. 6

CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) Attribute data for parcel shape file First step is to add a Latitude (X) and Longitude (Y) field to the attribute data X and Y fields should be formatted as a DOUBLE with 0 for precision and scale CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) 1. 2. 3. 7

CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) Using Calculate Geometry populate X and Y fields CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) For X field use X Coordinate of Centroid For Y field use Y Coordinate of Centroid 8

CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) Parcel shape file now has Latitude (X) and Longitude (Y) values Attribute data can be exported to dbf to be used to create an Event Layer CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) 1. 2. 3. 9

CREATING ADDRESSING LOCATION (GPS/LATITUDE & LONGITUDE) POINTS USING GIS SOFTWARE (ESRI ARCMAP) 1. Event Layer should be exported to a shapefile for editing 2. To edit the points location (position on structure or driveway, etc.) enter an edit session in ArcMap Select the Address shape file from the edit list Select the point and move it to the desired location 10

Additional points can be added for accessory improvements or commercial properties where more than one address is required. 1. 2. 11

Once the new point is created the user can edit the attribute data by keying items such as REALKEY, PIN, and TOTALACRES Items such as X and Y can be populated using the Calculate Geometry tool 12

13

Process can be repeated for any additional points Once edits are complete be sure to stop the edit session and save edits Questions??????? 14
