Happy Valentine s Day Activities Prior to doing the conversation cards and playing taboo, go over the idioms with the students. The conversation cards and taboo cards are based on the idioms. Once you have gone over the idioms, the students can do the conversation cards in pairs. To play taboo, you can do this activity in pairs, groups or two teams. For pairs: The cards are divided up between two students. The students take turns trying to get the other student to guess the word on the top of the card. They do this by trying to explain what the word or phrase means but they can not use any of the words on the card. If the student guesses the correct word, then they get to keep the card. The student with the most cards wins. This also works for small groups. For two teams in class The cards are placed at the front of the class. A student from one team comes up and takes a card. The student has to try to get the other students to guess the word on the top of the card. They do this by trying to explain what the word or phrase means but they can not use any of the words on the card. When a student guesses the word, they get a point for their team. The student who gets the point for their team then takes a turn to describe the taboo word on the card.
