9 Response to PSTG Strategic initiatives Permafrost : trace gas products e.g. CH 4 total column (based on Metop IASI, planned in Q2 2019) may help assess permafrost outgassing; soil moisture (H-SAF product based on Metop ASCAT) includes snow & frozen surface probability; Floating Ice : OSI SAF sea ice product suite (see slide 4 above); Sentinel-3 SLSTR sea ice temperature product (planned for 2020); Snow : SAF snow cover and Snow Water Equivalent products (see slide 5 above); Ice Sheets, Ice Caps and Glaciers : no direct response. Ongoing study to validate ASCAT sigma-0 with ice sheet; Atmosphere : Polar Atmosphere Motion Vectors (AMV) products, based on Metop AVHRR. Under development : Sentinel-3 SLSTR-based AMVs (planned in 2020); Polar Prediction : EUMETSAT liaises with YOPP project to optimise availability of relevant satellite products.
