Calibration PMTs and Digital Optical Modules (DOMs) Calibration IceCube detector is difficult once installed. (flusher and atom. neutrino) Calibration detectors before the installation is important. We calibrate PMTs and DOMs. (Absolute calibration and 2D sensitivity scan.) PMT DOM metal cage HV board Flasher board Main board 10 inch PMT Optical gel Hamamatsu Chiba Univ. Wisconsin Univ. Chiba Univ. South Pole makes all PMTs Normal check: (1/10) Linearity the PMT gain dark noise rate charge resolution Golden PMTs: (1/60) normal check + 2D sensitivity scan Absolute calibration assembles DOMs Golden DOMs: (1/80) check all DOMs 2D sensitivity scan (under low temperature) Absolute calibration Linearity the DOM gain dark noise rate component check cold reboot communication test
The absolute calibration PMTs and DOMs using Rayleigh scattering in N 2 air CRAY system by N. Sakurai N 2 laser (337nm) N 2 N 2 laser QE = ph.e.s / photons The Rayleigh scattering is well understood!
The measured absolute Q.E. a DOM POS.1 POS.2 DOM surface ~2cm POS.1 Shino_Inuzuka Photo-cathode direction POS.3 Q.E. POS.2 POS.3
Let me remind 337nm Transmission glass and gel (MC based on measurement) about consistent with the PMT QE (~20%) Using the difference, we can study the effect the glass and gel more.
The relative sensitvity 2D scan DOMs To get the 2D absolute sensitivity DOMs, combining with the result the absolute measurement. Are there sensitivity back side? Study the effect the glass and gel.

Summary One string has installed last season. At Chiba university, we are working both on hardware and stware side mainly for EHE neutrinos. We calibrate PMTs and DOMs (2D absolute). The MC stware to study EHE neutrinos are ready. The future plan In this austral summer, we will (hopefully) deploy 10 more strings. We will continue to calibrate PMTs and DOMs. We will refine our analysis and upgrade devices. We will start mass production MC events and will develop a reconstruction method for the EHE neutrino events. We will also prepare to analyze observational data after the deployment this season. Let us hope some physics next year!
