Professional Experience Post-Doctoral Research Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, Germany January 2014 Present I am currently developing, in collaboration with Dr. Jörg Götte, a fully quantized description of nonparaxial light-matter interactions based on the total angular momentum of light. Doctoral Research University of East Anglia, UK April 2010 January 2014 Here I began my research on twisted light: that has angular momentum not only associated with its polarization (spin), but also with a twist in the phase-front of the beam: this corresponds to the orbital angular momentum of the light. Our theoretical work has shown a novel new method to generate these optical vortices. Potential applications arise in quantum information in that there are an infinite number of possible values that the orbital angular momentum may take, as opposed to just two values that the spin may have. We also published a series of papers on the limits of the two-level approximation in nonlinear optics.
