2 Casio FX-570ES One-Page Wonder INTRODUCTION Welcome to the world of Casio s Natural Dislay scientific calculators. Our exeriences of working with eole have us understand more about obstacles eole face adating to a new scientific calculator, or any ICT tool for that matter. The most revalent issue is how to get started using the tool in the shortest time ossible. This is esecially true as the scientific calculator gets more sohisticated; yet eole have less time to learn its many functions through the user manual even it is extremely comrehensive. To resolve this issue, we came u with this one-age exercises idea. The key idea is to design a series of exercises where each exercise should be just 1-age long and is indeendent of each other. One imortant criterion of the design is that we want you to be able to use any one of these exercises with the calculator immediately, regardless of your calculator skill s level. Just as imortant is that each exercise must be short, functional yet not too comlex to use. So, based on the design rinciles just described we are roud to resent to you the FX-570ES One Page Wonder. You can begin using this resource by first look u the LIST OF EXERCISES in next age and find the exercise which suits your needs. The age number of each exercise is given at the middle column of the list. You can make coies of any of the activities for your class, share it with your friends, or just use them yourself. We would like to stress that the oneage exercise is not a relacement of the user guide that comes with your calculator but rather to serve as a sulement to it. Secial Notes for User of FX-350ES, FX-570ES and FX-991ES: The FX-ES calculator has a setting area (ta q w) where we can make referred settings. When we get unexected calculation outut from the calculator, usually it is due to inaroriate setting. It can easily be resolved: ta q w, check the current setting, and make the change. With list based statistics there is no need to reset STAT mode memory. However, the STAT setting now becomes quite imortant. For examle, if Frequency is turn ON, then you would see FREQ column aears and this affects your data entry rocess and subsequently the outut will be too. Therefore each time you start using STAT mode, it is generally a good ractice to clear the Setu by taing q 9 1 ; alternatively, you can check the STAT setting through q w R 4 and make the change.

4 1 >>> Set the contrast of the dislay. SETTING DISPLAY 1 First turn on the calculator and set calculator to COMP mode. W w 1 Enter the calculator set u, then go down and select CONT. q w R 6 Now use the left right arrow keys to control contrast. Once done ress AC.! $ C

5 2 SETTING DISPLAY 2 >>> To set the decimal oint dislayed as comma. First turn on the calculator and set calculator to COMP mode. W w 1 Enter the calculator set u, go down the menu, select Dis and choose Comma. q w R 5 2 Try ressing the following to see the outcome O 3. 4 n To dislay the decimal oint as dot, return to set u and select Dot in Dis. q w R 5 1 n

6 3 SETTING DISPLAY 3 >>> Set the Inut Outut method of the calculator as MathIO. First turn on the calculator and set the calculator to COMP mode. W w 1 Enter the calculator set u, and select MathIO. q w 1 Now the calculator is in Natural Inut Outut Dislay or MathIO. Try ressing the following. s 8 >>> To reset the Inut Outut method of the calculator as LineIO. After the above exercise, enter the calculator set u, and select LineIO. q w 2 Now the calculator is in normal dislay or LineIO. Try ressing the following. s 8

If needed, set the calculator angle to degree mode. 12 9 TABLE OF VALUES >>> Create a table of values for y = cos x for 0 x 180. First turn on the calculator and set calculator to TABLE mode. If needed, set angle to degree. 13 10 SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS >>> Solve the equations 2 x + 5y = 7 and 3x y = 12 simultaneously. First turn on the calculator. W Go to Mode, select EQN and then choose to solve the 2-unknown simultaneous equations. w 5 1 Enter the coefficients and constant of the first equation Now enter the coefficients and constant of the second equation. 3 z 1 z 1 2 To find the solutions ress = a few times.

14 11 CUBIC EQUATIONS 3 2 >>> Solve the cubic equation of 3x 16x + 55x 52 = 0. First turn on the calculator, select EQN mode and choose to solve for cubic equation. 15 12 SINGLE VARIABLE STATISTICS 1 >>> Find the mean and samle standard deviation for these data: 2, 4, 7, 4, 9, 13, 6, 8, 7. Turn on the calculator, clear the set u 1 and set calculator to STAT mode. W q 9 1 C w 3 1 It is generally a good ractice to clear the set u as you begin statistical calculation. Now choose to do calculation for 1-VAR and enter the data into the list Continue entering the rest of the data Next we clear the screen and find the samle mean. Then choose 1-VAR to enter the data rovided. w 3 1 Enter the x-data at the X-column first Continue by entering frequency data at the FREQ-column. 17 14 LINEAR REGRESSION >>> Determine the linear correlation coefficient for the aired samle data below: x y Turn on the calculator and clear the set u 1, then set calculator to STAT mode. Select to do calculation for A+BX and enter the x data at the X-column Next we go to Y-column and enter the y data at this column. R $ Next we clear the screen and find the correlation coefficient. 20 17 SCIENTIFIC CONVERSIONS AND CONSTANTS >>> A car travels 1200m in 55 second. Find its average seed for that eriod in km/hour. First turn on the calculator and set calculator to COMP mode. To convert it into km/hour we refer to the conversion codes at the cover of the calculator. q Press = to find the result of the conversion.
