4 PURPOSE The general objective of the program is to raise awareness about the most common mental health illnesses that affect the Mexican/Hispanic population living in Los Angeles County, with special emphasis on the recent immigrant community.

6 OPERATION Mental Health Station The program features three components: On-site services. A mental health professional (psychologist/social worker) provides psychological counseling at the Consulate s facilities. The mental health provider conducts a first assessment and assists the patient in enrolling to programs available in the County for further services and/or treatment. The Consulate can provide up to 8 sessions on site per patient. Online services. Through our website: the user is able to find services and mental health organizations based in Los Angeles County according to zip code. The system will also incorporate a Telehealth component, which will allow the user to receive counseling from the comfort of their home. Group therapy. It consists of 8 group sessions where different emotional health topics are covered, such as: domestic violence, substance abuse, parent-child acculturation, and coping with loss and grief among others. This program is aimed at people with cases of lesser severity.

10 On-site services Clinical Components Two tier intervention: Education and prevention, in partnership with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health promotoras program and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Direct Clinical Services by professional providers from Bridges, Inc., Casa de la Familia and interns from USC School of Social Work (supervised by a licensed clinical social worker): Initial Evaluation Brief counseling Referral to community partners Support groups Services provided in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

11 Weekly topics: 1) Stress and Anxiety Group Sessions at the Consulate s facilities provided by mental health providers from LAC Department of Mental Health, Bridges, Inc., and USC School of Social Work. 2) Sleep Problems 3) Depression 4) Relationship Problems 5) Parent-Child Acculturation 6) Coping with Loss and Grief 7) Substance Abuse (drugs/alcohol) 8) Domestic Violence 9) Addictions (gambling, internet games, pornography)

19 Results: To date, the Mental Health Program has provided 182 psychological orientations on site. It has been able to impact around 7,600 people, through informational presentations and workshops about mental health in the Consulate s waiting rooms. More than 2,000 users have visited our Mental Health website.
