This package is based on a Jamaican program which has proven to be successful at improving cognitive outcomes, school achievement and labor market outcomes over the long run. The Reach Up program is used in a subset of the Project communities, and the ChildFund materials and group modality (Ventana de la Vida) will be used in the rest of the communities. Along with the opportunity to use Reach Up has come the need 10/23/2017 Page 1 of 8

2 to modify implementation and staffing plans at the local level as well as adapt the Reach Up materials to the Guatemalan context, all of which have taken significant time. There was a need to coordinate with the Jamaica team for its technical assistance and organize the training based on their availability. The project has successfully adapted the Reach Up materials to the Guatemala context, including the curriculum, guidelines for training, and learning materials and trained 24 implementers on both the Reach Up curriculum as well as the ChildFund curriculum. Post-test results by participants of 97% show that the training was a huge success. Moreover, home visits to practice the activities were well-received by communities. The indicators that will measure children s development outcomes at the community level, have also been tested. The sub-grantees have now scaled up the implementation of activities using both methodologies ( Ventana de la Vida and Reach Up). The sub-grantees have held 80 local assemblies to present the intervention to municipal authorities, municipal development committees, municipal health committees, and communities; identified 325 community-level human resources, called Madres Guias, who have already started implementing the activities with families. Data collection for the baseline has been finalized, which has allowed the Project to initiate activities in new communities. The impact evaluation will measure the effect of providing psychosocial stimulation through home visits and group meeting to increase child development by promoting play, parent-child interactions, and generally improve parent practices. The impact evaluation will assess the costeffectiveness of the two different modalities of service delivery on home environment, parental behavior and child development and nutritional outcomes. The evaluation will follow children that were under 18 months at the time of the baseline over a period of 18 months. As of April 2017, 500 Madres Guias had been trained and certified (214 from level 1 and 286 from level 2). By June 2017, 115 new Madres Guias were also trained and certified (41 from level 1, and 74 from level 2) children in total were registered by both local partners, and the Barrilete measurement tool was applied in 1764 children as of April, 2017, and 1069 more as of June, Community fairs were organized and held in 46 communities, with 2181 people attending. The Project has also secured the training of 879 midwives from 12 municipalities in good practices for safe deliveries. Leaders and community authorities are difficult to track because they rotate every year. Nonetheless, ChildFund has reported the participation of 150 leaders in 3 municipalities (15 in San Pedro Jocopilas, plus 60 in Chichicastenango, 60 in Chiché, and 15 in Quiche).
