1 General / tandards. lace signing, pavement markings and traffic control devices in accordance with the anual on niform raffic ontrol evices, the plans, F esign tandards, F lans reparation anual (), FW tandard ighway igns, urnpike lans reparation and ractices andbook (), and F raffic ngineering anual. ign lacement and nstallation. he ngineer will field verify all sign locations to ensure the sign is properly located and 3. otify unshine tate at and/or the appropriate utility owners in concurrence with Florida tatute and dig or vacuum excavate the first four feet of sign foundations.. ny work necessary in the shoulder area to construct signs, such as grading, sodding, clearing, and grubbing, is considered incidental to sign installation and is to be included in the cost of the sign assembly. 7. emove or cut vegetation as needed to provide adequate sight distance for all overhead and ground mounted signs. Vegetation removal and trimming is included in the unit price of the sign assembly. o not alter vegetation without prior approval from the ngineer. ign anels / Faces 8. se countersunk screws when using mechanical fasteners to attach sign panels to windbeams, brackets and splice plates for single and multi-post signs.. appropriate sign spacing is achieved (i.e., offset from travel lanes, spacing from other signs is adequate, no utility conflicts). he Field ngineer or may make minor adjustments if the sign is not properly located, appropriate sign spacing is not met, or if utility conflicts are discovered. he ngineer of ecord must be consulted on major adjustments. n all cases, roadway safety must be increased, not diminished. 6. ll existing signs shall be shown on the plans. abel "existing to remain" for those that are to remain in place. ll existing signs are to remain visible until such time as the proposed sign installation is completed. 9. atch attachment hardware, such as countersunk screws or rivet heads, with retroreflective buttons that match the color and sheeting material of the finished sign panel including the background, legend or border. 0. nsure the outside corner of sign is concentric with border. nsure white borders are designed and fabricated to be parallel to the edge of the sign. nsure black borders are recessed from the edge of the sign. ownload the unass logo in icrostation format for use in sign fabrication from the Florida's urnpike raffic esign website: or obtain the logo by contacting the urnpike raffic esign ngineer at (407) he logo shall not be fabricated by hand cut-out method. verlays. When using an aluminum sheet overlay, ensure the overlay is a minimum of 0.04 inches thick. etermine the sheeting material of the existing sign and ensure the overlay sheeting type matches the existing sign. verhead igns 7. lign the far edge of the sign panel, furthest from the upright, flush with the end of the ign anel eplacement 8. s part of sign panel replacements, include new vertical hanger beams, new horizontal wind beams, new ign uminaires 9. nergize sign luminaires within 4 hours of overhead lighted sign installation. 0. "ight im" the sign luminaires to ensure proper illumination of the sign surface. he luminaires must be at an angle sufficient to prevent them from shining into the faces of drivers who are traveling in the opposite direction.. horizontal chord of the cantilever structure. bolts, new screws, new nuts, new washers, and all necessary hardware for a complete connection between the new sign panel and the existing sign structure. nsure sign luminaires are similar or equal to nfinity, or other listed wet proof induction sign luminaire capable of accepting 0 to 480 volts without an external transformer. learly note the luminaire tilt angle for each sign and ensure the same for all luminaires on each specific sign. lace the angle convention detail on submittals to clearly depict tilt orientation. se the following values for each area classification: -0 foot-candles (low); 0-0 foot-candles (medium); 0-40 foot-candles (high). nsure the maximum/minimum uniformity value does not exceed 6: ratio. hese values are average initial, use a maintenance factor of.00 in the calculations process.. nstall the luminaires as per the spacing produced in the scaled photometric documentation and sign data instruction obtained from the contract documents. hould any deviations take place from these documents, provide photometric calculations to scale complying with the above parameters and submit documentation to the ngineer of ecord prior to proceeding. 3. op mounted luminaires are prohibited on the mainline or ramps. avement arking and eflective avement arkers 4. nsure that proposed pavement markings at all existing or proposed interface locations match the existing pavement markings in terms of alignment. ny conflicting pavement markings shall be removed.. Work that includes extending or refurbishing of existing striping damaged during construction is included in the unit price of the pavement marking. 6. avement markings may be adjusted slightly as directed by the ngineer. 7. ay out permanent final striping that leaves no visible marks at time of final acceptance. 8. lace a green outside of ground in rumble strip at each whole mile marker. 9. When removing pavement messages via water blasting, the entire area within the pavement message, including the interior of the message that is not painted or have thermoplastic, shall be water blasted so that the message outline is completely obliterated and drivers are not able to read or see the scar outlining the former message. 3. When using an adhesive overlay, ensure the overlay is a removable opaque film that adheres to the sign. nsure the sign face is clean and in good condition. nsure the removal of the adhesive film does not damage the sign. he use of adhesive overlays is limited to 6 months or less. se 3 ontroltac lus hangeable Graphic Film or equivalent. 4. Where panel overlays are specified, determine and match existing corner radii. emove all existing overlays prior to proposed overlay installation. he cost is considered incidental and is to be included in the pay item for proposed overlay.. For partial panel overlays, ensure all existing copy to be overlaid is completely covered. nsure the overlay does not cover any portion of the existing copy or border which is to remain visible. 6. xercise caution while relocating or overlaying existing signs to prevent damage to signs. Verify and match existing letter sizes and fonts for signs that require overlays prior to fabrication of new panel. $$ B V B. F F F F J G. 0-
2 otes to esigners (not to be included in plan set general notes sheet). he designer should verify that the proposed sign panel size conforms to the F tandard ndex drawings with regards to vertical hangers, wind beams, and luminaire arms. f not, special design and details should be provided in the & plans.. ign uminaires notes - shall apply only when external lighting of overhead signs is required per the. 3. f a panel is being replaced on an existing structure that has other panels with luminaires, either replace all panels and remove luminaires or maintain the luminaires with the new panel, so that all panels are consistent on the structure. When the lighting is removed, it should be removed to the pull box and any ancillary equipment, including but not limited to conduit, arms and brackets, should be removed as well. otes to esigners for xpress anes:. oll ate sign structures shall be designed to accommodate three (3) destinations. he cross-section sheet should show the outline of a three (3) destination panel and the proposed panel to be installed with the project (if the proposed panel does not have three (3) destinations).. oll rate sign closest to an ingress shall be on a span structure. 3. he signing sequence shall contain the following: three (3) dvance Guide igns, two () oll ate igns, one () Vehicle ligibility ign and one () three-line Full olor, Full atrix. f space permits, include a -mile advance guide sign in the signing sequence. 4. oll ate embedded front access shall be full color, 0mm pixel pitch, be able to display seven (7) characters, and have character height. mbedded shall be mounted per sign manufacturer requirements.. xpress ane tatus one-line front access shall be full color, 0mm pixel pitch, be able to display 8 characters per line, and have character height. 6. he express lane signs shall be overhead and over the corresponding lanes. he dvance igning ayout diagrams are a guide for placement. ign structures can be located on either side of the road or on a span. oadway conditions determine the type of structure. 7. ny ramp toll rate signs (direct connect or park-and-ride) may be mounted on multi-posts. 8. For direct connect access into the express lanes, the sequence can be adjusted to have one () toll rate sign, with a one-line. he one-line will serve as a backup for the provided toll rate. his shall have separate power and separate communication. 9.
