Using Agrwl s Euler-Lgrnge eqution nd the Lgrnge multiplier technique, we obtin here Noether-like theorem for frctionl optiml control problems in the sense of puto. Mthemtics Subject lssifiction: 49K05, 26A33 Keywords: Frctionl Optiml ontrol, puto Derivtives, Riemnn- Liouville Derivtives, Noether s Theorem Introduction Noether s theorem, published in 98 23], is centrl result of the clculus of vritions tht explins ll physicl lws bsed upon the ction principle. It is very generl result, sserting tht to every vritionl symmetry of the problem there corresponds conservtion lw. Noether s principle gives powerful insights from the vrious trnsformtions tht mke system invrint. For instnce, in mechnics the invrince of physicl system with respect Int. Mth. Torres to sptil trnsltion gives conservtion of liner momentum; invrince with respect to rottion gives conservtion of ngulr momentum; nd invrince with respect to time trnsltion gives conservtion of energy 20, 3]. The clculus of vritions is now prt of more vst discipline, clled optiml control 25], nd Noether s principle still holds in this more generl setting 30, 32]. Frctionl derivtives ply n incresing role in mthemtics, physics nd engineering 4, 6, 7, 2, 24, 29] nd the theory of the clculus of vritions hs been extended in order to del with more generl systems contining noninteger derivtives, 2, 3, 5, 9,, 9, 26, 27]. The new frctionl vritionl clculus provide more relistic pproch to physics 6, 7, 8, 8, 22, 28], permitting to consider nonconservtive systems in nturl wy very importnt issue since closed systems do not exist: forces tht do not store energy, soclled nonconservtive or dissiptive forces, re lwys present in rel systems. Nonconservtive forces remove energy from the systems nd, s consequence, the stndrd conservtion lws cese to be vlid. However, it is still possible to obtin Noether-type theorem which covers both conservtive nd nonconservtive cses 0, 2]. In more generl wy, formultions of Noether s theorem were proved for frctionl problems with left nd right Riemnn-Liouville frctionl derivtives 9, 3, 4, 5]. In 3] Agrwl proves version of the Euler-Lgrnge equtions for frctionl problems of the clculus of vritions in the sense of puto. One of the interesting spects of the new theory is tht both puto nd Riemnn- Liouville derivtives ply role in Agrwl s Euler-Lgrnge equtions. Here we use the results of 3] to formulte Noether-type theorem in the generl context of the frctionl optiml control in the sense of puto. 2 Frctionl Derivtives In this section we collect the well-known definitions of frctionl derivtives in the sense of Riemnn-Liouville nd puto see, 3, 2, 24, 29]). Definition 2. Frctionl derivtive in the sense of Riemnn-Liouville). Let f be n integrble continuous function in the intervl, b]. This is not the cse with the Riemnn-Liouville frctionl derivtive. 3 Min Results Our min result is Noether-type theorem for frctionl optiml control problems in the sense of puto Theorem 3.7). As corollry, we obtin Noether theorem for the frctionl problems of the clculus of vritions orollry 3.20). The frctionl optiml control problem in the sense of puto is introduced, without loss of generlity, in Lgrnge form: Iq ), u )] = Dα t L t, qt), ut))dt min, P ) qt) = ϕ t, qt), ut)), where functions q :, b] R n stisfy pproprite boundry conditions. The Lgrngin L :, b] R n R m R nd the velocity vector ϕ :, b] R n R m R n re ssumed to be functions of clss with respect to ll their rguments. We lso ssume, without loss of generlity, tht 0 < α. In conformity with the clculus of vritions, we re considering tht the control functions u ) tke vlues on n open set of R m. Along the work we denote by i L, i =, 2, 3, the prtil derivtive of function L,, ) with respect to its ith rgument.

The frctionl Hmiltonin formlism introduced in ] is esily dpted to our present context. In the context of clssicl mechnics, p is interpreted s the generlized momentum. In the optiml control literture, the multiplier p is known s the djoint vrible. We now proceed with the usul steps for obtining necessry optimlity conditions in the clculus of vritions. We begin by computing the vrition δi of functionl 7): δi = 2 H δq + 3 H δu + 4 H δp δp Dα t q p δ D α t q)] dt, 9) where δq, δu nd δp re the vritions of q, u, nd p respectively. For the fundmentl frctionl problem of the clculus of vritions in the sense of puto 6) we hve H = L + p u. It follows from Theorem 3.5 tht Dα t q = u, td α b p = 2 L, 3 H = 0 p = 3 L t D b α p = t D α b 3L. 0) ompring both expressions for t Db α p, we rrive to the frctionl Euler-Lgrnge equtions proved by O. 6 6 G. S. F. Frederico nd D. F. M. Torres Remrk 3.8. Our optiml control problem P ) only involves puto frctionl derivtives but both puto nd Riemnn-Liouville frctionl derivtives pper in the necessry optimlity condition given by Theorem 3.5. This is different from 2, 4, 5] where the necessry conditions only involve the sme type of derivtives Riemnn-Liouville) s those in the definition of the frctionl optiml control problem. This fct lso occurs in the prticulr cse of the clculus of vritions s noted in 3]: the Riemnn-Liouville derivtive is present in the necessry condition of optimlity ) but not in the formultion of the problem 6). The notion of vritionl invrince for problem P ) is defined with the help of the equivlent problem 7). Definition 3.9 Invrince of P ) without trnsformtion of time). This is lso n immedite consequence of Noether s theorem 23]: from the invrince with respect to trnsltions on q τ = 0, ξ = ), it follows from 28) tht p = 3 L is conservtion lw. Another fmous exmple of ppliction of Noether s theorem in clssicl mechnics is given by the conservtion of energy: when the Lgrngin L in 27) is utonomous, i.e. L = L q, q), we hve invrince under time-trnsltions τ =, ξ = 0) nd it follows from 8), 0) nd 28) tht the Hmiltonin H which is interpreted s being the energy in clssicl mechnics) is conservtion lw. Surprisingly enough, we show next, s n immedite consequence of our Theorem 3.7, tht for the problem P ) with frctionl order of differentition α α ), the following hppens:
12 2 G. S. F. Frederico nd D. F. M. Torres i) similrly to clssicl mechnics, the generlized momentum p is frctionl conservtion lw when L nd ϕ do not depend explicitly on q Exmple 4.); ii) differently from clssicl mechnics, the Hmiltonin H is not frctionl conservtion lw when L nd ϕ re utonomous Exmple 4.2). In sitution ii), we obtin from our Theorem 3.7 new frctionl conservtion lw tht involves not only the Hmiltonin H but lso the frctionl order of differentition α, the generlized momentum p, nd the puto derivtive of the stte trjectory q see 30) below). This is in greement with the clim tht the frctionl clculus of vritions provide very good formlism to model nonconservtive mechnics, 27]. In the clssicl cse we hve α = nd the new obtined frctionl conservtion lw 30) reduces to the expected conservtion of energy H. Exmple 4.. Let us consider problem P ) with Lt, q, u) = Lt, u), ϕt, q, u) = ϕt, u). Such problem is invrint under trnsltions on the vrible q, i.e. condition 20) is verified for t = t, qt) = qt) + ε, ū t) = ut) nd p t) = pt): we hve d t = dt nd condition 20) is stisfied since Dᾱ t q t) = Dα t qt): D ᾱ t q t) = = t ā t = Dα t qt) + Dα t ε = Dα t qt). t θ) n α d dθ) n qθ)dθ t θ) n α d dθ) n qt) + ε)dθ According with 9) one hs ξ = nd τ = ς = = 0. It follows from Theorem 3.7 tht pt) is frctionl conservtion lw in the sense of puto. Exmple 4.2. We now consider the utonomous problem P ): Lt, q, u) = Lq, u) nd ϕt, q, u) = ϕq, u). This problem is invrint under time trnsltion, i.e. the invrince condition 20) is verified for t = t + ε, q t) = qt), ū t) = ut) nd p t) = pt): we hve d t = dt nd 20) follows from the fct
13 Frctionl optiml control nd Noether s theorem 3 tht Dᾱ t q t) = Dα t qt): Dᾱ t q t) = = = t ā t+ε +ε t = Dα t qt + ε) = Dα t q t) = D α t qt). t θ) n α d dθ) n qθ)dθ t + ε θ) n α d dθ) n qθ)dθ t s) n α d ds) n qt + ε)ds With the nottion 9) one hs τ = nd ξ = ς = = 0. We conclude from Theorem 3.7 tht Ht, q, u, p) α)p Dα t q 30) is frctionl conservtion lw in the sense of puto.
