1 Mathematics Curriculum WCPS Math Standard Course of Study Pacing Guide for Block Scheduling Foundations of Algebra Foundations of Algebra develops the study of algebraic concepts. It includes a survey of preparatory topics for high school mathematics, specifically the foundations for algebra. Appropriate technology, from manipulatives to graphing calculators and applications software, should be used regularly for instruction and assessment. 1 st 4½ weeks 2 nd 4½ weeks 3 rd 4½ weeks 4 th 4½ weeks 1.01 Develop number sense for the real numbers Analyze patterns in data by using scatter plots and tables Apply the algebraic order of operations Represent linear patterns with equations and graphs Simplify expressions involving exponents, opposites, and absolute value Visually determine the line of best fit for a given scatter plot; explain the meaning of the line; and make predictions using the line Solve problems involving percents Simplify expressions involving exponents, opposites, and absolute value Solve multi-step equations and use the distributive property to solve equations Use prime factorization to find a GCF Identify relations and functions as linear or nonlinear Write an equation (standard and slope-intercept form) of a linear relationship given: two points, the slope and one point on the line, or the slope and y-intercept Operate with radicals and radical equations Use prime factorization to find a GCF Find the theoretical and experimental probability of a favorable outcome. a) Find the probability of independent events. b) Design and perform simulations to find experimental probabilities Find the union and intersection of sets Describe how changes to the rule of a function correspond to the translations, reflections, expansions and compressions of its graph Define the sine and cosine ratios 4.04 Identify and use the tangent ratio Alg 1 book: Ch , Ch 2, Ch 3, Alg. 5 Foundations of Algebra Number & Operations The learner will operate with real numbers to solve Algebra The learner will find, identify, and interpret the slope and intercepts of a linear relation.
