A sizable track is expected! Tracks of 2-10 LXe / 4-20 for electrons of E~O( MeV) [Material property available at NIST

A given positron track e + Drift field
A given positron track stops in the detector and gets annihilated with a nearby electron, creating two characteristic 511 kev photon! Drift field e + e 511 kev 511 kev Additional handle to identify positrons or positron tracks This signature is particularly useful for DEAP-3600 as PMTs cover almost the entire surface of the detector.
Tracks Pop Up inside the fiducial volume, Not from outside! 1 2 ER Ordinary elastic scattering: single-track e + ER e Three distinguishable tracks May leave an identifiable displaced secondary vertex 3 4 ER Three overlaid tracks Density pattern: e + different from that for e e + the elastic scattering Displaced vertex: maybe identifiable ER e (Relatively) prompt secondary process Three overlaid tracks Density pattern: different from that for the elastic scattering Displaced vertex: non-identifiable Multi-tracks/displaced vertex necessary only for post-discovery (e.g., elastic vs. inelastic) DEAP-3600: a displaced vertex 6.5 cm identifiable only with S1 through a likelihood fitter
Quite energetic ER & secondary signals Three-body decay of χ 2 longlived χ 2 a sizable vertex (m 2 < m 1 + m X ) Two-body decay of χ 2 no displaced vertex < resolution (m 2 > m 1 + m X )
[Required fluxes of in unit of 10-3 cm -2 sec -1 ] Multi: primary & secondary tracks / Single: 1 track with E 10 MeV within the fiducial volume Requiring 3 signal events under the zero background assumption DEAP-3600 has no sensitivity to ref3 & ref4 (no displaced vertices) in multi channel: It is challenging to identify 3 final state particles only with S1. However, it has sensitivity to identify just BDM even for ref3 & ref4 (not ibdm).
Non-trivial to find appropriate parameterizations for providing model-independent reaches due to many parameters involved in the model Number of signal events N sig is N sig = σ F A t exp N e σ: scattering cross section between (BDM) and electron (target) F: flux of incoming (boosted) A: acceptance t exp : exposure time N e : total number of target electrons Controllable!
Acceptance determined by the distance between the primary & the secondary vertices (relatively) conservative limit to require two correlated vertices in the fiducial volumes (also to be distinguished from elastic scattering) 90% C.L. with zero background Calculable given a detector l lab : different event-by-event taking l max lab for more conservative limit
Acceptance determined by the distance between the primary & the secondary vertices (relatively) conservative limit to require two correlated vertices in the fiducial volumes (also to be distinguished from elastic scattering) 90% C.L. with zero background Calculable given a detector smaller ε F for ref1 and ref2 evaluated with σv χ0 χ 0 being cm 3 s 1 l lab : different event-by-event taking l max lab for more conservative limit
No (measurable) displaced vertex Acceptance 1 : relevant to signals with overlaid vertices or elastic scattering signals F~ σv χ 0 χ 0 m 0 2 set to be cm 3 s 1 Experimental sensitivity can be represented by σ vs. m 0 (= E 1 ). ref3 ref4 [Note that DEAP-3600 may not tell apart inelastic scattering from elastic scattering.]
