1 Bunbury Orchid Society Standard Show Schedule 2017
2 Conditions of Entry 1. Entries are received on the basis that the society will take reasonable care of exhibits but shall not be responsible for any loss, destruction or damage and the owner shall have no claim what so ever against the society. 2. The society reserves the right to refuse to accept any plant tendered for exhibit. 3. All orchids must be labelled correctly, and must be shown in the section and class in which they are entered. No plant may be entered in more than one class but may be included in a display. A plant entered in the wrong class will be moved to the correct class. 4. All plants entered shall have been the property of the exhibitor and be grown by him/her for a period of not less than six months preceding the show. 5. Only members of the Society are eligible to hold perpetual trophies. 6. Entries for all displays must be lodged with the secretary of the Society no later than one week before the scheduled show date. 7. All plants must be entered and staged at the advertised time on the day of judging. 8. Judging will commence at the advertised time. Award judging will take place at the completion of the show judging or at the discretion of the Judging Panel. 9. Judging will be carried out under the WAOCJP judging guidelines. The judge s decision is final. 10. The Show Marshall reserves the right to remove or rearrange the exhibits. 11. No plant may be removed by the exhibitor or his agent prior to the termination of the show. 12. Display signs must be; Proportionate to the size of the display. Not distract from the display design (orchids must be the prime feature) Catalogues or other print matter may be displayed on exhibits. 13. Cut flowers may be entered if; They are grown more than 250 kilometres from the venue. Meet the judging and show schedule requirements or, There is a special class for cut flowers. 14. Winners of championship classes will be displayed at the discretion of the Society. 15. Primary Hybrids must be shown in the relevant Primary Hybrid Class unless they are eligible to be entered as a seedling. 16. Species must be shown in their relevant species Classes unless they are eligible to be entered as a seedling. 17. Pure Colour Cymbidiums must be entered into their relevant classes unless they are eligible to be entered as a seedling. 18. Seedlings shall be a plant grown from seed and be flowered for the first time. The plant shall be a whole plant that has not been divided. No flowers can be removed from the plant unless the plant is sequential flowering. Sequential flowering plants only retain their seedling status up to and including the third flower. Seedlings are not required to have the necessary flower count to be entered; plants not meeting required flower count for genera cannot be included in Championship or Award Judging. 19. Staking and tying for support is permitted. The judging panel has the right to remove any staking and/or tie if necessary, in order to ascertain the strength of the inflorescence. In all genera, no inflorescence is to be tied or supported on any part of the flower or attachment to the inflorescence. Staking should be unobtrusive as possible and not protrude above the inflorescence. Excessive use of ties or clips is undesirable. 20. When entering species, seedlings, or specimens the entry card must have a coloured dot stuck on the entry card. Species must have a Yellow Dot Seedling must have a Red Dot Specimen must have a Blue Dot A Specimen Seedling must have a Blue and Red Dot A Specimen Species must have a Blue and Yellow Dot 21. Primary Hybrids and Seedlings must have their immediate parentage written on the entry card.
3 Floral Art : Floral Art means orchid blooms, wired or otherwise and arranged with real or artificial foliage in the manner customarily adopted by florists for the purpose of being worn on the person or carried in the hand. The form of the piece to be as specified in the schedule of competition i.e. posy, shoulder spray, wrist corsage (wristlet), bridal bouquets, or an arm sheaf. Notes: Design including suitability for the purpose 20 points Balance actual and visual 15 points Scale of flower(s) proportionate in size to materials used 15 points Originality of design and use of materials 20 points Colour including clarity of colour and blending of colours 15 points Condition of materials including freshness substance, texture and free of damage or defects 15 points Total of 100 points When judging if all things are equal the orchid flowers of good shape and form are preferred. Some embellishments are permitted i.e. ribbon, tulle, lace, braid, berries sprayed or natural material. Orchids remain the dominant feature of the design. Smaller flowers i.e. Gypsophila, Misty blue, pink or white may be used to enhance the orchid blooms but again orchids must predominate. Foliage may be natural, dried coloured. The use of florists wire, tape, glue guns or similar material normally used by florists will be permitted but not visible. Floral Arrangement: Floral arrangement means any arrangement of orchid blooms and foliage without wiring or any other means of artificial support, in or on a container, with the use of oasis or water, intended for interior decorating, not intended to be worn or carried. Notes. Design including the container chosen 20 points Balance actual and visual 15 points Scale of flower(s) proportionate in size to materials used 15 points Originality of design and use of materials 20 points Colour including clarity of colour and blending of colours 15 points Condition of materials including freshness substance, texture and free of damage or defects 15 points Total of 100 points When judging if all things are equal the orchid flowers of good shape and form are preferred. Some embellishments are permitted providing they suit the schedule and the orchids remain the dominant feature of the arrangement i.e. fruit, nuts, seed pods, braid and materials natural or coloured. Other flowers i.e. Gypsophila, Misty blue, pink or white may be used as a secondary flower material. The use of materials normally used by florists will be permitted; this includes the use of extension vials as long as they are concealed. The arrangement must be able suitably constructed to last for the duration of the display/show.
