1 Jamal M. Hassan 1/5 JAMAL M. HASSAN Khalifa University (KUSTAR) P.O. Box Abu Dhabi Campus, UAE Phone: (971) TEACHING EXPERIENCE-SUMMARY Extensive teaching experience in undergraduate physics courses. Experience in teaching small & large class sizes (up to 200 students/lecture). Teach courses within a teaching-team (as a team leader, a team member and individually) Spend considerable time helping & advising students on a one-to-one basis. Offer regular extra help sessions to students. Design course outlines, exams, tutorials and web based courses (ANGEL & Moodle). Experience in teaching students from different scientific and cultural backgrounds. Designed and supervised freshmen lab experiments. Strong dedication for teaching with ability to communicate difficult concepts simply & effectively. RESEARCH INTERESTS My research interests span the areas of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) & Renewable Energy. Particularly, my research area includes: Porous materials characterization using NMR. Study water relaxation and dynamics on the surface of nano-materials using NMR. Hydrophobic-Hydrophilic interaction with surface water. Magnetization Spin exchange investigation using NMR and mathematical modeling. Renewable Energy and Solar radiation analysis and Forecasting. EDUCATION University of Waterloo Ontario, Canada Ph.D. in Physics (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) 2007 Thesis: NMR study of exchange and hydration site identification in MCM-41. Advisor: Professor Hartwig Peemoeller
2 Jamal M. Hassan 2/5 DISSERTATION Title: NMR study of exchange and hydration site identification in MCM-41, Ph.D thesis. Advisor: Prof. Hartwig Peemoeller,University of Waterloo, Canada. Co-advisor Eric. Reardon, University of Waterloo, Canada. The topic of my Ph.D thesis was studying the dynamics and behaviour of water on the vicinity of a nano-confinement of silica materials (MCM-41). In this study, X-ray diffraction, Nitrogen-adsorption-desorption and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy are used. 1H, 2H and 29Si NMR measurements enabled us to specify different water spin groups on the surface of MCM-41 with different dynamics and relaxation rates. Magnetization exchange occurs between these components. Such exchange was investigated and a mathematical model, based on multi-site exchange, was constructed and used to analyze the experimental results. In addition, a definitive hydration site identification for MCM-41 was achieved. WORK EXPERIENCE Assistant Professor, Sept now. Teaching: Physics 121 (University Physics I, Mechanics). Physics 122 (University Physics II, Electricity, Magnetism and Optics). Physics 201 (Physical Properties of solids). Physics 121 and 122 LABS.
