Before we proceed, Two assumptions for an interesting model: M kk is not too heavy. Give me a number! M kk 3TeV. Can be seen in LHC! Y ij are ancharic, O(1) numbers. No tuning is required! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 4 / 32
FCNC from the loop & tree µ eγ: γ µ e γ µ e Y 3 µ 3e & µ e: µ z e e ē µ z e Y 1 Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 5 / 32
The opposite Y bounds For Y, µ e e µ e ē gives a lower bound. γ µ e γ µ e gives an upper bound. Constraint Y from both sides! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 6 / 32
The opposite Y bounds For Y, µ e e µ e ē gives a lower bound. γ µ e γ µ e gives an upper bound. Want to get the precise bounds! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 6 / 32
Tree level constraints from e e µ e µ ē K. Agashe, A. E. Blechman, and F. Petriello, hep-ph/ Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 7 / 32
The origin of the flavor changing Taking the zero mode Z as an example, the nonuniversal part of the wave function h (0) (z) near IR gives the flavor changing, Wave function: [ h (0) 1 (z) = 1 + M 2 ( Z R ln R /R 4 z ln z ) ] R Gauge coupling: [ g zf i f j = gsm z 1 + (M Z R ) 2 ln R ] /R f i f j 2(3 2c) The γ and Z have the similar form. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 8 / 32
The Yukawa bound The tree level result, Br (µ 3e) ( 3TeV M KK Br (µ e) Ti ( 3TeV M KK ) 4 ( 2 Y ) 2 ) 4 ( 2 Comparing to the experimental bounds, Br (µ 3e) < Br (µ e) Ti < Y ) 2 The µ e gives the most stringent bound (for M KK = 3TeV). Y > 3.7 Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 9 / 32
µ e γ in a warped XD Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 10 / 32
Warped penguins Warped Penguin looks weird... They live in 5D. H Previous analyses suggested the brane Higgs case is log-divergent. µ M i γ ē People thought they are divergent because of the KK sum. Want to do a full 5D calculation to check the finiteness! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 11 / 32
Warped penguins Warped Penguin looks weird... They live in 5D. H Previous analyses suggested the brane Higgs case is log-divergent. µ M i γ ē People thought they are divergent because of the KK sum. Can show µ eγ is finite! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 11 / 32
µ e γ in 5D The diagrams of µ e γ: Get the leading order result by doing mass insertions. Rotate all the flavor mixing to the Yukawa. It is an L-R operator: a Lσ µν F µν E From the gauge symmetry: ɛ µ M µ ɛ µ ū ( p µ + p e µ (m µ + m e )γ µ ) u To get a, we only need to calculate the coefficient of p µ. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 12 / 32
µ e γ in 5D The diagrams: γ µ e γ µ e Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 13 / 32
The Result The result of the amplitude can be written as follows: a k l R 2 e v ( ) 2 16π 2 f Li Y ik Y k l Y lj f L(0) Ej i σ µν E (0) The loop integral gives a k l 0.5. j F µν (0) Br(µ e γ) thy > a 2 3TeV M KK Br(µ e γ) exp < for M kk = 3 TeV, we have Y < 0.2 «4 «4 Y 2 Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 14 / 32
The Yukawa bounds There is a tension between the two bounds! Y (µ e) > 3.7 Y (µ e γ) < 0.2 To release the tension: Make M KK heavier. M KK 10 TeV Give some structure to Y ij. Introduce some symmetry to suppress the FCNC. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 15 / 32
Custodially protected model K.Agashe, R.Contino, L. Da Rold, and A. Pomarol, hep-ph/ M.E.Albrecht, M.Blanke, A.J.Buras, B.Duling, and K.Gemmler, Introducing a custodial symmetry for leptons This model gives: γ, Z, γ, Z & Z H. SU(2) L SU(2) R U(1) X P L,R The coupling of Z, Z to the LH fermions becomes flavor universal. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 16 / 32
Custodially protected model K.Agashe, R.Contino, L. Da Rold, and A. Pomarol, hep-ph/ M.E.Albrecht, M.Blanke, A.J.Buras, B.Duling, and K.Gemmler, Introducing a custodial symmetry for leptons This model gives: γ, Z, γ, Z & Z H. SU(2) L SU(2) R U(1) X P L,R The coupling of Z, Z to the LH fermions becomes flavor universal. The LH FCNC is suppressed. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 16 / 32
Custodially protected model Strategy Make the RH leptons towards UV. Make the LH leptons towards IR. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 17 / 32
Custodially protected model This reduces the Y bound to Y > 1 Strategy Make the RH leptons towards UV. Make the LH leptons towards IR. Y > 3.7 for the non-custodial case. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 17 / 32
Tension between the two bounds It s not enough... Y (µ e) > 1 Y (µ e γ) < 0.2 A mild tension still exists. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 18 / 32
Very interesting detail for the 5D loops! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 19 / 32
The fermion propagator in 5D ( /p + iγ m ) (p, z, z ) = iδ(z z ) Trick: ( p m 2) F (p, z, z ) = iδ(z z ) (p, z, z ) = ( /p iγ m ) F (p, z, z ) In flat XD case: F (p, z, z ) = A(p, z ) cos(p z) + B(p, z ) sin(p z) Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 20 / 32
The chiral BC The chiral BC constraints the form of the amplitude! ψ R χ L /k χ L ψ R /k ψ R D F + χ L χ L ψ R /k D +F ψ R χ L ( χl ) ( ) ( Ψ L = ψ ψχ ( L ) = ψψ D+ F = σ µ ) p µ F + χr χχ χψ σ µ p µ F D F + Ψ R = ψ R Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 21 / 32
How to calculate the 5D loop? Feynman s trick with Bessel functions?? We don t know that... However, we can Tayler expand the propagator into powers of the external momentum (p µ, q µ 1 ). (k 2 + 2k q) = 1 1 2k q «+.... k 2 k 2 Isolate the p µ terms. Get the coefficient. /pγ µ = 2p µ γ µ /p. Solve the numerical integral, get the coefficient of µ e γ. a R 2 e v Z Z 2 f 16π 2 L YY Yf E ū/ɛu; a = dx dy (scalar function). Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 22 / 32
Why is µ e γ is finite? Lorentz invariance + chiral BC gives the finiteness: The propagators are composed of two parts The Dirac operator part (gives the γ µ structure). The Bessel function part (contains the 5D profile). In the UV limit, the photon vertex is pulled back to the IR brane. Can just look at the Dirac operator part. Each loop contains two sectors: photon emission mass insertion Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 23 / 32
Why is µ e γ is finite? γ emission: Lorentz inv + chiral BC gives ( /k γ µ /k k 2 γ µ) mass insertion: The chiral BC gives /k. Combining the two m-insertion amp, the leading order becomes M (a) + M (b) /k ( /k γ µ /k k 2 γ µ) + ( /k γ µ /k k 2 γ µ) /k = 0 From NDA, only the leading order term can be divergent. µ e γ is finite! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 24 / 32
5D V.S. KK Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 25 / 32
The KK result should be the same as 5D The mass matrix: m 11 0 m 13 M = m M KK,1 m M KK,2 In the mass basis, the Yukawa takes the form (ɛ = m/m KK ) ɛ 1 + ɛ ŷ 1 + ɛ 1 ɛ M (1 + ɛ)(1 + ɛ) + ( 1 + ɛ)(1 ɛ) ɛ Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 26 / 32
The KK result should be the same as 5D For the finiteness: In the mass basis, naive NDA gives M M 1 KK. The Yukawa gives additional ɛ = m/m KK and ensures finiteness. M KK 1 (M KK ) 2 In the M KK basis, treat m as the mass insertion. The chiral BC effect becomes obvious. H H µ M i e χ L ψ R χ L ψ R γ γ Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 27 / 32
The KK result should be the same as 5D For the a value: Do the momentum integral to infinity and sum the KKs. M = N n=1 The leading order result is M 0 d 4 k ˆM (n) (k ) 1 (M KK ) 4!? which is different from the 5D result M R 2! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 28 / 32
The KK result should be the same as 5D For the a value: Do the momentum integral to infinity and sum the KKs. M = N n=1 The leading order result is M 0 d 4 k ˆM (n) (k ) 1 (M KK ) 4!? which is different from the 5D result M R 2! 5D KK!? Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 28 / 32
The KK result should be the same as 5D The reason is, Wrong UV limit! To match the 5D & KK, the momentum cutoff KK cutoff. The correct way of doing the sum and the integral is lim N N n=1 N MKK 0 d 4 k ˆM (n) (k ) This gives the same leading order contribution M 2 KK as in 5D. Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 29 / 32
The 5D & KK results do match! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 30 / 32
Outlook & Conclusion One loop µ eγ for brane Higgs case is finite. The bulk higgs is also finite. How about the finiteness for higher loops? A tension between the tree-level & loop-induced Yukawa bounds. Only having the custodial symmetry is not enough. Need some structure on Y. How about b sγ? The nontrivial UV limit for KK is important for mathcing the 5D. Does this happen in other loop-induced processes? Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 31 / 32
A long journey for Warped Penguins... Yes, we worked very hard! Yuhsin Tsai, Cornell University/LEPP Warped Penguins 32 / 32
