We study statistical approximation properties of -Bernstein-Shurer operators and establish some direct theorems. Furthermore, we compute error estimation and show graphically the convergence for a function f by operators and give its algorithm.. Introduction and Preliminaries In 987, Lupaş [] introduced the first -analogue of Bernstein operator and investigated its approximating and shapepreserving properties. Another -generalization of the classical Bernstein polynomials is due to Phillips []. After that many generalizations of well-known positive linear operators, based on -integers, were introduced and studied by several authors. Recently the statistical approximation properties have also been investigated for -analogue polynomials. For instance, in [] -analogues of Bernstein-Kantorovich operators; in [3] -Baskakov-Kantorovich operators; in [4] -Szász-Mirakjan operators; in [5, 6] -Bleimann, Butzer and Hahn operators; in [7] -analogue of Baskakov and Baskakov-Kantorovich operators; in [8] -analogue of Szász Kantorovich operators; in [9, 0] -analogue of Stancu-Beta operators; and in [] -Lagrange polynomials were defined and their classical approximation or statistical approximation properties were investigated. Schurer [] introduced the following operators L m,p : C[0, p+] C[0, ] defined for any m N and any function f C[0, p + ]: Recently, Muraru [3]introduced the -analogue of these operators and investigated their approximation properties and rate of convergence using modulus of continuity. Note that Radu [4] has also used -intgers to define and study the approximation properties of the -analogue of Kantorovich operators. In this paper, we study the statistical approximation properties by -Bernstein-Schurer operators. We also give some direct theorems. We recall certain notations of -calculus. Let >0.For any k N 0 := {0} N,the-integer [k] is defined by and the -factorial [k]! by ( k ) { [k] := { ( ), =, { k, =, [k]!:={ [k] [k ] [], k,, k = 0. Also, the -binomial coefficients are defined by () (3) L m,p (f; x) = m+p ( m+p k )xk ( x) m+p k f( k m ), k=0 x [0, ]. () [ n k ] [n]! := [k]![n k]!. (4) Details on -integers can be found in [4].
Function Spaces and Applications Muraru [3] introduced the following operators known as the generalized -Bernstein-Schurer operators. For any m N, p a fixed positive integer, and f C[0, p + ], L m,p L m,p (f; ; x) = m+p k=0 [ m+p k m+p k ] x k s=0 ( s x) f ( [k] [m] ), x [0, ]. We note the following properties as in [3] for (f; ; x). Lemma. For x [0,], 0<, Lemma. For x [0,], 0<, (5) L m,p (; ; x) =. (6) L m,p (t; ; x) = x[m + p] [m]. (7) Lemma 3. For x [0,], 0<, L m,p (t ;;x)= [m + p] [m] Lemma 4. Let (0, ).Thenforx [0,] ([m + ] x +x( x)). (8) L m,p (t x;;x)=x([m + p] [m] ). (9) Lemma 5. Let (0, ).Thenforx [0,] L m,p ((t x) ;;x) =x ( ([m + p] [m] ) [m+p] [m] ) +x [m + p] [m].. Statistical Approximation (0) In this section we obtain the Korovkin type weighted statistical approximation properties for these operators defined in (5). Korovkin type approximation theory [5] hasalso many useful connections, other than classical approximation theory, in other branches of mathematics (see Altomare and Campiti [6]). Firstwerecalltheconceptofstatisticalconvergencefor seuences of real numbers which was introduced by Fast [7] and further studied by many others. Let K Nand K n ={j n:j K}.Thenthenatural density of K is defined by δ(k) = lim n n K n if the limit exists, where K n denotes the cardinality of the set K n. Aseuencex = (x j ) of real numbers is said to be statistically convergent to L provided that for every ε>0 the set {j N : x j L ε}has natural density zero; that is, for each ε>0, lim n n {j n : x j L ε} =0. () In this case, we write n x n = L.Notethat every convergent seuence is statistically convergent but not conversely, even unbounded seuence may be statistically convergent. For example, let u=(u m ) be defined by u m ={, if k is a suare, 0, otherwise. () Then u m =0,butu is not convergent. Recently the idea of statistical convergence has been used in proving some approximation theorems, in particular, Korovkin type approximation theorems by various authors, and it was found that the statistical versions are stronger than the classical ones. Authors have used many types of classical operators and test functions to study the Korovkin type approximation theorems which further motivate continuation of this study. After the paper of Gadjiev and Orhan [8], different types of summability methods have been deployed in approximation process, for example, [9 3]. Recently, Astatistical convergence has been used to the summability of Walsh-Fourier series [4]. Let C B [0, p + ] be the space of all bounded and continuous functions on [0, p + ]. ThenC B [0, p + ] is a normed linear space with f = sup x 0 f(x). Letw be a function of the type of modulus of continuity. The principal properties of the function are the following: (i) wis a nonnegative increasing function on [0, p + ], (ii) lim δ 0 w(δ) = 0. Let C B [0, p + ] be the space of all real valued functions f defined on [0, p + ] satisfying the following condition: f (x) f(y) w( x y ), (3) for any x, y [0, p + ]. We consider a seuence =( n ), n (0, ),suchthat lim n n =. (4) The condition (4)guaranteesthat[n] n as n. Now our first result is as follows. Theorem 6. Let (L m,p ) be the seuence of the operators (5), and the seuence =( m ) satisfies (4).Thenforanyfunction f C B [0, p + ], m L m,p (f; m;x) f =0. (5)
Function Spaces and Applications 3 Proof. Let e ] =x ] where ] =0,,.SinceL m,p (; m,x) = m, therefore we can write as m L m (; m;x) =st lim n e 0 m (6) L m,p (; m;x) = L m (; m;x) (7) = e 0 m m. By (4),itcanbeobservedthat Similarly m L m,p (; m;x) =0. (8) Therefore by (5), we get L m,p (t ; m ;x) x m + ( [m + p + ] m [m] m ) m Now, if we choose ( ( m +)[m+p+] [m] ) + α m = m m ( [m+p+] m [m] ), m ( + m [m] ). (6) L m,p (t; m;x) x = e m [m + p] m [m] m [m + p] [m]. For a given ε>0, let us define the following sets: U={m: L m,p (t; m;x) x ε}, U ={m: [m + p] m [m] m ε}. It is obvious that U U ;itcanbewrittenas δ({k m: L m,p (t; m;x) x ε}) By using (4), we get δ({k m: [m + p] m [m] m ε}). (9) (0) () β m = m + m γ m = m ( [m+p+] [m] ), ( + m [m] ), (7) then, by (4), we can write α m m =0=st lim β m m =st lim γ m m. (8) Now for given ε>0, we define the following four sets: U={m: L m,p (t ; n ;x) x ε}, U ={m:α m ε 3 }, U ={m:β m ε 3 }, U 3 ={m:γ m ε 3 }. (9) Therefore m ([m + p] m [m] m )=0. () δ({k m: [m + p] m ε})=0, (3) [m] m and we have n L m,p (t; m;x) x =0. (4) Lastly, we have It is obvious that U U U U 3.Thenweobtain δ({k m: L m,p (t ; m ;x) x ε}) δ({k m:α m ε 3 }) + δ ({k m : β m ε 3 }) +δ({k m:γ m ε 3 }). (30) Using (8), we get L m,p (t ; m ;x) x = e ( m[m + p] m [m] n [m + p] m [m] m ) + e ( m[m + p] m m [m + p] [m] ) m [m]. (5) Since m L m,p (t ; m ;x) x =0. (3) L m,p (f; m;x) f L m,p (t ; m ;x) x + L m,p (t; m;x) x + L m,p (; m;x), (3)
4 Function Spaces and Applications we get which implies that m L m,p (f; m;x) f st lim m L m,p (t ; m ;x) x +st lim m L m,p (t; m;x) x +st lim m L m,p (; m;x), (33) m L m,p (f; m;x) f =0. (34) This completes the proof of the theorem. Remark 7. In the following example, we demonstrate that the statistical version is stronger than the ordinary approximation. Let us write T m,p (f; m;x) = ( + u m )L m,p (f; m;x), where the seuence (u m ) is defined by (). Then under the hypothesis of the previous theorem, we have m T m,p (f; m;x) f =0. (35) However, lim m T m,p (f; m;x) f does not exist, since (u m ) is statistically convergent but not convergent. 3. Direct Theorems The Peetre s K-functional is defined by where K (f, δ) = inf [{ f g +δ g }:g W p ], (36) where δ m (x) =x ( ([m + p] [m] ) [m+p] [m] ) +x [m + p] [m]. Proof. Let g W. From Taylor s expansion, we get g (t) =g(x) +g (x)(t x) t + (t u) g (u) du, t [0, A], A > 0, x And, by Lemmas,,and3,weget L t m,p (g; x) = g (x) +L m,p ( (t u) g (u) du, x), L m,p (g; x) g (x) t L m,p ( (t u) g (u) du, x) x L t m,p ( (t u) g (u) du,x) x L m,p ((t x),x) g. Using Lemma 5,weobtain L m,p (g; x) g (x) x ( ([m + p] [m] ) [m+p] [m] ) g x (4) (4) (43) (44) W p ={g C B [0, p + ] : g,g C B [0, p + ]}. (37) By [5], there exists a positive constant C>0such that K (f, δ) Cw (f, δ / ), δ > 0, where the second-order modulus of continuity is given by w (f, δ / ) = sup sup 0<h δ / x [0,p+] f (x+h) f(x+h) +f(x). (38) Also for f C B [0, p + ] the usual modulus of continuity is given by w(f,δ)= sup sup 0<h δ / x [0,p+] f (x+h) f(x). (39) Theorem 8. Let f C B [0, p + ] and 0< m <such that m (m ). Thenforalln Nand p fixed, there exists an absolute constant C>0such that L m,p (f; m;x) f(x) Cw (f, δ m (x)), (40) +x [m + p] [m] g. On the other hand, by the definition of L m,p (f; ; x),wehave Now L m,p (f; x) f (x) L m,p (f g; x) (f g) (x) + L m,p (g; x) g (x) L m,p (f; x) f. (45) f g +x ( ([m + p] [m] ) [m+p] [m] ) g +x [m + p] [m] g. (46)
Function Spaces and Applications 5 m (for p=30, = 0.9) Error bound at x = 0. Table : Error estimation table. Error bound at x = 0.5 Error bound at x = syms x; n=[0, 30, 50]; p=30; =0.9; dat = zeros(3, 4); for i = :3 m=n(i); errestimate = inline [ {char [ { x { (integer(m + p, ) integer(m, )) integer(m+p,) } (integer(m, )) integer (m + p, ) +x { (integer(m, )) }]} abs(diff(+sin ( 6.5x. ),)) ] }; dat(i, ) = n(i); dat(i, ) = errestimate(0.); dat(i, 3) = errestimate(0.5); dat(i, 4) = errestimate(0.8); Algorithm : Error estimate algorithm. Hencetakinginfimumontherighthandsideoverallg W, we get L m,p (f; x) f (x) CK (f, δ m (x)). (47) where r(t, x) is the remainder term and lim t x r(t, x) = 0. Applying L m,p (f; ; x) to (50), we obtain [m] m (L m,p (f; ; x) f (x)) In view of the property of K-functional, we get L m,p (f; x) f (x) Cw (f, δ m (x)). (48) This completes the proof of the theorem. = [m] m (L m,p (t x;;x)f (x)) + [m] m (L m,p ((t x) ;;x)) f (x) + [m] m L m,p (r (t, x)(t x) ;;x). (5) Let C B [0, p + ] be the space of all bounded functions for which lim x f(x) is finite. Theorem 9. Let f C B [0, p + ] be such that f, f C B [0, p + ], and the seuence ( m) satisfies (4). Thenthe following euality holds: lim m [m] m (L m,p uniformly on [0, p + ]. ( x) (f; ; x) f (x)) =x f (49) Proof. By the Taylor s formula we may write f (t) =f(x) +f (x)(t x) + f (x)(t x) +r(t, x)(t x), (50) By the Cauchy-Schwartz ineuality, we have L m,p (r (t, x)(t x) ;;x) L m,p (r (t, x) ;;x) L m,p (r (t, x)(t x)4 ;;x). (5) Observing that r (x, x) = 0 and r (, x) C B [0, p + ], then it follows from Theorem 8 that L m,p (r (t, x) ;;x)=r (x, x) =0, (53) uniformly with respect to x [0,p+].Nowfrom(5), (53), and Lemma 5,weget lim m [m] m L m,p (r (t, x)(t x) ;;x) =0. (54)
6 Function Spaces and Applications x (for = 0.9 and p=30) For m=0 For m=30 For m=50 Function Figure n=[0, 30, 50]; p = 30; = 0.9; for j = :3 m=n(j); a=[ : 00]; i=; for x = 0 : 0.0 : t=0; for k = 0: m +p z=; for s = 0: m +p k z=z( s x); integer fact (m + p, ) t=t+{ integer fact (k, ) integer fact (m + p k, ) }xk z integer (k, ) {+sin ( 6.5 ( integer (m, ) ) )}; a(i) = t; i=i+; x=0 : 0.0 : ; if (j == ) c = plot(x, a) set(c, Color, blue, LineWidth, ) else if (j == ) c = plot(x, a, g ) set(c, Color, green, LineWidth, ) else c = plot(x, a, r ) set(c, Color, red, LineWidth,) hold on x=[0 : 0.0 : ]; y=+sin( 6.5x ); a = plot(x, y, k ) Algorithm: For the generalized-bernstein-schurer operators.
Function Spaces and Applications 7 Finally using Lemmas 4 and 5,wegetthefollowing: lim [m] m m (L m,p (f; ; x) f (x)) = lim m [m] m (L m,p (t x;;x)f (x)) = + lim m [m] m (L m,p ((t x) ;;x)) f (x) + lim m [m] m L m,p (r (t, x)(t x) ;;x) x ( x) f (x). This completes the proof of the theorem. 4. Example (55) Let us take f(x) = + sin( 6.5x ).Wecomputeerror estimation [6] by using modulus of continuity for operators (5) tothefunctionf(x) = + sin( 6.5x ) shown in Table with the help of MATLAB and Algorithm. For m=0, 30, and 50, the convergence of operators (5) to function f (x) =+sin ( 6.5x ) (56) is illustrated in Figure with help of Algorithm. References [] A.
