Data (points) + fit (lines)
Different color indicate different observation time series
Problems in using planetary exploration data In order to work with data from an instruments you need to know their format and the best analysis techniques Code writing to perform the research
IT IS REALLY HARD TO MAKE SCIENCE WITH DATA IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE TEAM!
It is therefore impossible to exploit the data fusion, i.e. SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT PHYSICAL QUANTITIES OBSERVED BY DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS By means of data fusion it is possible to expand the scientific capabilities of an instrument
MATISSE MATISSE aims to apply to planetary exploration data the huge experience of ASDC in developing tools to support the astrophysics community By means of a VO-like approach it will allow to: Find multimission data Produce different maps and figures Visualize data on 2D maps or 3D shape models Download only the requested products and not a large dataset
Intelligent archive To have a really powerful instrument an Intelligent Archive must be developed, i.e., Searchable by specific input parameter, such as: Planetocentric coordinates Time Surface/atmospheric features Instrument type
Intelligent archive To have a really powerful instrument an Intelligent Archive must be developed, i.e., Searchable by specific input parameter, such as: Apply DATA MINING to Solar Planetocentric coordinates System Exploration archives Time Surface/atmospheric features Instrument type
MATISSE and the VO-like approach MATISSE WWW data query Different instruments data Analysis tools Visualization
MATISSE and the VO-like approach MATISSE Higher order output Different instruments data Analysis tools Visualization
MATISSE and the VO-like approach MATISSE No file format knowledge needed Higher WWW order Different Analysis instruments Scientific informations data output query from different instruments data tools Reduced time to write code Visualization
MATISSE and the Data Fusion This will expand the scientific objectives of every mission, helping in raising scientific production ESA Rosetta mission VIRTIS & OSIRIS nucleus + coma GIADA coma + dust particles By fusing their data it will be possible to study dust particles and active regions
MATISSE for Rosetta The first year of the project is mainly dedicated to ESA Rosetta mission, in particular to OSIRIS, VIRTIS and GIADA The main aim of this first year will be to have a stable version of the SW, so that teams can use it for visualization and simple analysis tasks
MATISSE current version The version now available online is the 0.5 and allows to: Overlay data from a single observation on the shape model of Lutetia or Churyumov- Gerasimenko Perform ratio and averaging over multiple ROSETTA observations and show the result on the shape model of the selected target
MATISSE current version No DB Few data available Few scientific capabilities Still in demo/prototype version Complete version after DB and collaboration with scientific teams

Target, mission, instrument selection
Spatial + Time parameters
Color control
Observation selection (Differentiated access based on user permissions)
Surface analysis
Surface analysis
Surface analysis
Surface analysis
Coma/dust analysis
MATISSE and the teams Indicate scientific priorities Teams ASDC SSE group Allows the use of fused data
Future developments At the present time we are starting our effort to create the observation database This database will be fundamental to develop the intelligent archive MATISSE is modularly designed and is ready to be extended to other missions and targets (e.g., Dawn, with Vesta and Ceres)
