The part is related to a new formulation of finite volume element methods for elliptic problems. The results established a novel connection of finite volume to finite element methods. P. Chatzipandelidis is an Assistant Professor with tenure at the Dept. of Mathematics of the University of Crete. Ch. Arvanitis, PhD Thesis on finite element methods and computational techniques for shock computations. He introduced a geometric type adaptivity and observed the stabilization features associated with it. F. Karakatsani, PhD Thesis on a posteriori error control of time dependent Stokes equations. She was a post-doctoral researcher in the group of E. Bänsch at the University of Erlangen, a research scientist at BCAM in Bilbao, and now a Research Associate at the University of Strathclyde. N. Sfakianakis, PhD Thesis on adaptive finite difference schemes for hyperbolic conservation laws. He was a post-doctoral researcher in the group of C.
