Here we report on the determination to -loop order in perturbation theory o the renormalization coeicients necessary to achieve automatic O(a) improvement and the boundary improvement coeicients needed to eliminate the extra boundary O(a) eects present in any SF ormulation. 2 Perturbative sty o the χsf in QCD. Introduction Schrödinger unctional schemes [] have been successully used in several renormalization problems in lattice ield theory. In this ormulation, however, the presence o temporal boundaries together with local boundary conditions or the ields are a source o extra cuto eects. A theory regulated with Wilson ermions is hence aected by lattice arteacts coming rom the bul and also by those originating at the boundaries. These can be removed ollowing Symanzi s improvement program by adding a set o counterterms to the action in the bul and at the boundaries. An appealing alternative to the standard ormulation o Wilson ermions in the SF is the recently proposed chirally rotated Schrödinger unctional (χsf), which implements the mechanism o (bul) automatic O(a) improvement [2]. In the continuum (and chiral) limit it is directly related to the standard SF ormulation via a chiral rotation o the ermion ields. The chirally rotated ields satisy modiied boundary conditions which respect a version o chiral symmetry augmented with a lavour structure. In this situation, the argument or automatic O(a) improvement can be invoed in terms o a rotated version o parity. Physical observables are then only aected by O(a 2 ) discretization eects (provided that the eects rom the boundaries have been removed) without the need o introducing new operators in the bul. Here we report on a perturbative -loop calculation o the coeicients necessary or the renormalization and the improvement o the theory in the χsf set-up. Ater this is done, we perorm a set o tests (also within perturbation theory) conirming the universality between the standard and chirally rotated set-ups, as well as the mechanism o automatic O(a) improvement. 2. The χsf set-up For a lavour doublet chirally rotated boundary conditions tae the orm [2] Q + ψ(x) = Q ψ(x) = 0, ψ(x) Q x0 + = ψ(x) Q x0, (2.) x0 =0 x0 =T =0 =T with the projectors Q ± = 2 (±iγ 0γ τ ) and where τ i are the Pauli matrices. The projectors commute with iγ 0 γ τ. A rotated version o parity P can hence be used to distinguish between even and odd observables in the χsf. On the lattice P -even correlations are automatically O(a) improved and all O(a) eects all into P -odd observables. The boundary conditions Eq.(2.) can be derived rom the standard SF boundary conditions by applying a non-anomalous chiral rotation to the lavour doublet ψ R(α)ψ, ψ ψr(α), R(α)=exp(iαγ τ /2). (2.2) The rotated ields satisy Eq.(2.) or α = π/2 (standard SF boundary conditions are recovered or α = 0). Since the rotation R(α) is a symmetry o the massless continuum action, the two set-ups are equivalent, with correlation unctions related through O[ψ,ψ] χsf = O[R( π/2)ψ,ψr( π/2)] SF. (2.) P : ψ(x) iγ 0 γ τ ψ( x), P : ψ(x) ψ( x)iγ 0 γ τ, x=(x 0, x). 2
Perturbative sty o the χsf in QCD When the theory is implemented on the lattice with Wilson quars, these relations are expected to hold between renormalized correlation unctions once the continuum limit is taen. Implementing χsf boundary conditions on the lattice is non-trivial. Here we consider the lattice set-up rom [2] in which the ermionic action reads S = a 4 T x 0 =0 ψ(x)(d W + δd W + m 0 )ψ(x), (2.4) x with the Wilson-Dirac operator, which incles the clover term 2, reads U 0 (x)p ψ(x+aˆ0)+(k+ iγ τ P )ψ(x), x 0 = 0, ad W ψ(x)= U 0 (x)p ψ(x+aˆ0)+kψ(x) U 0 (x aˆ0) P + ψ(x aˆ0), 0<x 0 < T, (K+ iγ τ P + )ψ(x) U 0 (x aˆ0) P + ψ(x aˆ0), x 0 = T, with the diagonal part K given by ( Kψ(x) = + 2 = The boundary counterterms read with the operator (2.) { a( + )γ a 2 } ) i ψ(x)+c SW 4 a σ µν ˆF µν (x)ψ(x). (2.6) µ,ν=0 δd W ψ(x)=(δ x0,0+ δ x0,t)[(z )+(d s )ad s ]ψ(x), (2.7) ad s = a 2 ( + )γ a2 2. (2.8) Here z is the coeicient o a dimension boundary counterterm necessary to restore the P symmetry which is broen by the lattice regulator. The coeicient d s multiplies a dimension 4 counterterm at the boundaries and can be tuned to remove O(a) eects rom the boundaries. While d s can be understood as the χsf counterpart o the c t coeicient in the SF, z is special rom this set-up [2]. In perturbation theory these coeicients read z = z (0) + g 2 0z () + O(g 4 0), d s = d (0) s + g 2 0d () s + O(g 4 0), (2.9) where z (0) = and d s (0) = /2. One o the central goals o this wor is to determine z () and d s (). Although nowing d s to -loop is enough in practise, in a non-perturbative calculation z must be nown also non-perturbatively in order to ensure that the correct symmetries are recovered in the continuum limit []. The nowledge o z () can help to guide the non-perturbtive tuning and it is moreover required in urther perturbative calculations.. Correlation unctions in the SF and the χsf Correlation unctions in the χsf set-up are deined in a similar way as in the standard SF. Writing explicitly the lavour assignments, boundary to bul correlation unctions are given by g 2 X (x 0 )= 2 X 2 (x 0 )Q 2, and l 2 Y (x 0 )= 6 = Y 2 (x 0 )Q 2, (.) 2 Although the clover term is not needed or automatic O(a) improvement, incling it removes some O(a) eects rom P -odd quantities.
Perturbative sty o the χsf in QCD with the ermion bilinears being X = A 0,V 0,S,P, and Y = A,V,T 0, T 0. Boundary to boundary correlation unctions read g 2 = 2 Q 2 Q 2, and l 2 = 6 = Q 2 Q 2. (.2) The boundary operators Q 2,..., are constructed by applying the rotation Eq.(2.2) to the standard SF boundary operators such that Eq.(2.) holds. For avoiding the computation o correlation unctions o lavour singlets we consider a set-up with 2 types o up quars (u and u ) and 2 types o down quars (d and d ) [4]. For the standard SF we use correlation unctions ollowing conventions rom the literature. Following Eq.(2.) we can write a dictionary relating correlation unctions in the 2 set-ups similar to that relating standard and twisted mass QCD. Some relations with the P -even correlations are A = g uu A = ig V, P = ig uu S = g P, V = l uu V = il A, T = il uu T = l T, (.) and with P -odd correlation unctions V = g uu V = ig A, S = ig uu P = g S, A = l uu A = il V, T = iluu T = l T. (.4) The tuning o z and m c accounts or the restoration o P and chiral symmetries and must be done simultaneously. A typical condition or ixing m 0 = m c is to demand the PCAC mass to be zero at the middle o the lattice. For determining z one can require any P -odd quantity to vanish. In this sty we consider 4 renormalization conditions or z, i.e. i) g uu P = 0, ii) g A = 0, iii) guu V = 0, and iv) g S = 0. (.) Dierent renormalization conditions or z lead to dierences z which vanish linearly in. 4. Perturbation theory In perturbation theory, the correlation unctions o the previous subsection are expanded to -loop order as g X (x 0 )=g (0) X (x 0)+g () X (x 0)g O(g4 0 ), g = g(0) + g () g2 0 + O(g4 0 ), (4.) and similarly with all the other correlation unctions. The gauge ixing procedure is the same as in [], and so is the gluon propagator. The calculation o g () X and g() requires de evaluation o the same set o diagrams as those shown in [, 6], together with the contribution due to the χsf boundary counterterms Eq.(2.7). Explicit expressions or the vertices and quar propagator derived rom Eq.(2.) will be given elsewhere [7]. We have produced a program or the ast evaluation o a large set o correlation unctions o ermion bilinears to -loop in perturbation theory or both the standard and chirally rotated set-ups. We calculate correlation unctions or L/a [6, 48] rom which it is possible to extract the dierent terms o the asymptotic expansion o the -loop coeicients. 4
Perturbative sty o the χsf in QCD 4. Determination o m () c and z () The -loop coeicients m () c and z () are obtained by expanding the renormalization conditions in section and solving them up to -loop order or a range o lattice spacings. Ater taing the continuum extrapolation 0 we obtain { m () c (c SW = )= () C 2 (R), (c SW = 0)= 0.272(7) C 2 (R), m () c { z () (c SW = )=0.6772(2) C 2 (R), (c SW = 0)=0.02(6) C 2 (R). (4.2) where C 2 (R) is the quadratic casimir operator in the representation R. The coeicient m () c reproduces the nown values o the critical mass or c SW = and 0, as expected. The coeicient z () has been calculated here or the irst time. It is worth noting that the determination o m c is quite independent rom z, which has also been observed in quenched calculations [4, 8] and in dynamical sties []. Next we calculate the dierences z (X) = z () z () in determining z using the dierent X iv renormalization conditions in Eq.(.). In igure it can be seen that z (X) 0or c SW = 0, while or c SW = the convergence is much aster. z () /C2 (R) x z (i) z (ii) z (iii) Figure : Dierences in the -loop value z () z () x0 - c SW =0 c SW = z (i) z (ii) z (iii) -2. vanish linearly as at inite lattice spacing or the dierent tuning conditions. 4.2 Determination o d () s The determination o the -loop boundary improvement coeicient d s () can be done by requiring the absence o O(a) terms at -loop in some P -even quantity. We consider an even quantity evaluated to -loop order and at several values o the ermion boundary angle θ, i.e. [ g P (x 0,θ,) ] [ R g P (x 0,0,) ], d s () = 009() C 2 (R). (4.) R x0 =T/2 For θ = 0., 0. and.0 we consistently ind the value o d () s 4. Test o automatic O(a) improvement given in Eq.(4.). Once the determination o the improvement and renormalization coeicients has been done we would lie to test whether the mechanism o automatic O(a) improvement wors. C 2 (F)=(N 2 )/2N or the undamental representation.
Perturbative sty o the χsf in QCD First o all we chec that the boundary conditions Eq.(2.) are correctly realised. Ater z is tuned to its critical value eq.(2.) should hold up to cuto eects. To test this we evaluate a set o even correlation unctions or which the projectors at the boundary operators have been reverted 4 Q ± Q. Such correlations should vanish provided that boundary conditions are correctly implemented. In igure 2 it can be seen that correlation unctions with reverted projectors are very small and vanish as the continuum limit is approached x0 - c SW =0 c SW = -ig V- g A- g P- -ig S- -il A- l~ T- -il T- l V- Figure 2: Vanishing correlation unctions with reversed projectors in the boundary operators. Secondly, we sty the continuum limit o P -odd correlation unctions and veriy that these, being pure cuto eects, vanish with the expected rate in (see igure ). 4.4 Universality Once the coeicients z and m c are nown, the equalities in Eqs.(.) and (.4) are expected to hold between ratios o renormalized correlation unctions. For instance, the ratios R A = guu A (T/2) [ ] A (T/2), and R P = g P (T/2) [ ] P (T/2), (4.4) g uu should approach as 0. In perturbation theory, the ratios are expanded as g R X = R (0) X + g2 0 R() X + O(g4 0 ). (4.) Universality implies that R (0) X and R() X 0 as 0. As can be seen rom igure 4, we conirm the expected convergence o the universality relations as the continuum limit is approached.. Conclusions Here we have calculated or the irst time to -loop order in perturbation theory the renormalization and O(a) improvement coeicients z () and d s () or the χsf set-up. With the nowledge o these coeicients we have conirmed, always in the ramewor o perturbation theory, that automatic O(a) improvement is at wor. Also, the universality between standard and chirally rotated ramewors is conirmed. The χsf opens new possibilities or determining inite renormalization constants and O(a) improvement coeicients or theories with Wilson type ermions []. Further perturbative calculations are essential to determine them in a way in which cuto eects are minimal. 4 These correlations are labelled with a sign, i.e. g 2 X,. 6
